Security trimmed URL throws an error if not logged in

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

On a Moss 2007 site, using FBA - I have an issue with security trimmed items within Lists.   There is not a problem with direct url links to non-list items.
For list items - here is the problem, when a user is not logged in and follows a direct url link from an email or newsletter to security trimmed items within a list - it throws an error instead of offering a redirect to login?

More info:  This is only occurring for individually security trimmed list items that have had anonymous access removed.  When a whole list or library has had anonymous removed, the links work fine (login page appears, log in, taken to original link).

Why is that and is there a way to avoid the error?

If it is of help, this is the error. Thanks in advance.

Windows Identity Foundation Security Token Service can't stay logged in

I'm using the Windows Identity Foundation **(WIF)** Security Token Service **(STS)** to handle authentication for my application which is working all well and good. However I can't seem to get any long running login with the STS. From my understanding I shouldn't care about the client tokens at the application level since they can expire all they want to and it should redirect me to the STS and as long as they're still logged in on the STS it should refresh their application token. Yet it doesn't seem to want to keep them signed in. Here's what occurs in my login.aspx on the STS var cookie = FormsAuthentication.GetAuthCookie(userName, persistTicket); if (persistTicket) cookie.Expires = DateTime.Now.AddDays(14); Response.Cookies.Add(cookie); var returnUrl = Request.QueryString["ReturnUrl"]; Response.Redirect(returnUrl ?? "default.aspx"); Which was taken almost directly from existing application using normal Forms Auth. From my web.config <authentication mode="Forms"> <forms loginUrl="Login.aspx" protection="All" timeout="2880" name=".STS" path="/" requireSSL="false" slidingExpiration="true" defaultUrl="default.aspx" cookieless="UseDeviceProfile" enableCrossAppRedirects="false" /> </auth

ssrs 2008 R2 - report parameter with no default set throws java script error

We have recently upgraded from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2008 R2....I am experiencing a problem with my report parameters on my SSRS reports. It seems that my report parameters that I do not have a specified 'default' value throws a java script error when I try and run/render the report under R2.  As soon as I put a 'default' value on the report param, everything is fine.  However, that is not the behavior we need for our reports...the user needs to pick their selection. Can anyone shed some light on this, it seems to be an AJAX problem...I need to be able to have report parameters with a list of values, but no 'default' value on the parameter.

Silverlight enabled web service security error

I tried to create a SL enabled Web Service by following the example from the Microsoft link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc197940(VS.95).aspx When I got to step 6 to test the web service that I created (View in Browser), I got the following error:  Security settings for this service require 'Anonymous' Authentication but it is not enabled for the IIS application that hosts this service. My IIS is located on my local machine with Windows Integrated Authentication and Anonymous access unchecked. After checking the Anonoymous access checkbo, I still got the above error. I have read other post on the Internet that Silverlight uses BasicHttpbinding but the settings in the web.config file was created by Visual Studio 2010 (running .NET 4.0), so I didn't think I need to mess with it. The following is the section from the web.config: <system.serviceModel>   <behaviors>    <serviceBehaviors>     <behavior name="">      <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" />      <serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="false" />     </behavior>    </serviceBehaviors>   </behaviors>   <bindings>    <customBinding>     <binding name=

Invoking custom WCF service throws an Impersonation error from SQL

I've written a custom WCF service and hosted it in SharePoint. Accessing the MEX endpoint works fine. However, when I try to invoke the WCF service from my client code, I get the following error: 'A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - Either a required impersonation level was not provided, or the provided impersonation level is invalid.)'. This exception gets thrown even before my WCF service gets invoked. Security trimmed URLs of subsites

I have a nice customized main page of a SharePoint 2010 site where I want to have links to various subsites - but I want the links to be security trimmed based on whether the user has access to the subsite.  I looked into using the SPSecurityTrimmedControl, but as far as I could tell, there was no way to trim based on the permissions of the subsite, only the current (ie main) site.  Is this correct? If not, what is the syntax for getting SPSecurityTrimmedControl to work? If so, how can I go about putting custom links on a page that are trimmed based on subsite access permissions? Thanks.

Adding AJAX-enabled WCF Service to the Solution throws an error

Hi I am just trying to learn Ajax enabled WCF service, when I try to create a new web application and add new item "AJAX-enabled WCF Service" I get an error message that "The extension of type 'System.ServiceModel.Configuration.WebScriptEnablingElement, System.ServiceModel.Web, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' is not registered in the extension collection 'behaviorExtensions'. I had .net2.0/VS2005 and then I installed VS2008. I thought it might be an issue with Machine.config. So I am attaching my machine.config info. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>    <!--    Please refer to machine.config.comments for a description and    the default values of each configuration section.     For a full documentation of the schema please refer to    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=42127     To improve performance, machine.config should contain only those    settings that differ from their defaults.    -->    <configuration>      <configSections>    <section name="appSettings" type="System.Configuration.AppSettingsSection, System.Configuration, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, Publi

Session State throws error in ASP.NET Site Pages for SharePoint 2010 portal using Visual Studio 2010

I'm developing Visual Studio 2010 solution for site pages. I’ve created Site Pages in SharePoint 2010 and I’m trying to access Session variables in code behind in ASP.NET but it throws the following error.

Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. IPC Security Error on Windows 7

I have a two part application written in VB.NET which uses an IPC connection to communicate between an Internet Explorer Add-On and an application running in the Notification area.  Under Windows 7 it appears that UAC will not allow a connection unless it is turned down to the "Never Notify" setting.  When the client tries to connect to the server a RemotingException is thrown with the message, "Access is denied."

This functionality is absolutely critical to the application, but it may make my customers uneasy to turn down UAC.  Is there a way to configure the IPC host and client so that a connection is allowed without turning down UAC to dangerous levels?

This is my server code to setup the host:

 sChannelName As
 String
 = "MyAgent"

   Dim
 sServiceName As
 String
 = "MyAgentService"

   Dim
 sUserName As

 = Environment.UserName
