Problems with ASP.Net 2.0 missing all tags and assemblies

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

Out of nowhere I suddenly started seeing errors in Visual Studio 2005 SP1 while working on a asp.net v2.0 site.  It almost seems like it's missing .Net but as I said, this came out of nowhere with no known new software or changes made to the systems in question.  I have a Windows 2003 SP2 x86 box that is experiencing this and I have a Windows XP SP3 x86 box with the same problems.  Oddly enough the same exact project on my Windows 7 x64 workstation, my Windows 7 x64 laptop, or my other Windows 7 x86 workstation have absolutely no problems with the same exact site!  I've tried copying the site files over again and again thinking it was something in the web.config but all of the same references and assemblies are listed.

While editing an aspx page I see tons of errors like these:
ASP.NET tags: Could not find System.Web.UI.HtmlControls namespace. Are you missing an assembly reference?
ASP.NET tags: ASP.net tag asp:Image not registered
ASP.Net tags: ASP.net tag asp:contentplaceholder not registered

While editing a .vb file I get all kinds of errors where it seems like it's missing just about everything

Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts and related assemblies to develop custom ssis task are missing

Hi All, I tried to develop a simple ssis task but the problem that I can't refer the necessary assemblies like Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime And also Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap Microsoft.Sqlserver.DTSRuntimeWrap Microsoft.Sqlserver.ManagedDTS Microsoft.SqlServer.PipelineHost What is certan that they aren't installed within the GAC in my case, so where could I find them? I have SQL server 2008 entrprise edition Other question, should I use Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Design and  Microsoft.SqlServer.ManagedDTS which are missed too, or they are part of the 2005 version only Thank you   The complexity resides in the simplicity

Missing DomainServices assemblies

After installing the VS 2010 Prof and WCF RIA Services Toolkit, I am missing the following assemblies:

System.ServiceModel.DomainServices.Hosting
System.ServiceModel.DomainServices.Server

What install provides these?

How to catch FileNotFoundException when missing one of referenced assemblies

Hi all,

I'm developing a simple application that references an 3rd party assembly.
In case this assembly isn't installed in GAC, I want to display my custom error message and close the application.

My problem is that FileNotFoundException is thrown before the Main function is called, so I can't handle this issue by the good way and windows Send/Don't Send dialog is displayed.

Is there any way to resolve this issue and programmatically close the application before FileNotFoundException is thrown?

Thanks,
Michael.

Top .NET Performance Problems and how to avoid them

Every time I work with one of our .NET customers to help them with managing their application performance I come across the same problems as seen with other clients before: lots of ADO.NET queries, many hidden exceptions in core or 3rd party .NET libraries, slow 3rd party components, inefficient custom code

Content Query Web Part missing in SharePoint 2010

If you don't see content query web part listed in the web parts list, this is because you have not enabled "Search Server Web Parts" feature in site collection features. Enable this feature and content query web part will show in the list of web parts.

Missing 'new item templates'

 Hi all,

          I am a 'newbie' to VWD and I am slowly working through the Basic Walkthrough Help files, and learning plenty along the way.

However, when I tried to create a new database in the LINQ control walkthrough I found that the option to create a new database is missing, and further investigation has found that many other new item templates are missing.

I am using a brand new machine with Windows 7 Ultimate and have enabled IIS and .NET from Control Panel-Programs-Turn Windows Features On-Off. I used the WPI to install all basic elements eg. IIS Components, SQL Server Express.

The only 'new item templates' I have when I right-click the App_Data Folder and choose 'new item' are:-

ADO.NET Data Service

AJAX Enabled WCF Service

Dynamic Data Field

SQL Server Database

Text File

XML File

Does anyone know where I have gone wrong.

Visual Studio 2008 Memory problems

My memory in task manager reaches about 900,000K  and I don't know why it does this. Definately slows everything down, especially when I rebuild my tableAdapters, takes about 30 seconds sometimes to rebuild the project.

Rendering data with HTML tags in the DD Gridview for a selected column

I am having trouble finding out where and how to HTML Encode a cell's data on the Dynamic Data (v4.0) gridview of List.aspx.  As a simple case, suppose I have formatted cell data that is A<br/>B in the DB.    Obviously, I want A stacked on B in the cell.

It seems gridView1.HtmlEncode = true has gone away.

So maybe I'll try to catch it on the RowDataBound event:

protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(Object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)

        {
            if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
            {
                // Html Encode the cells
            }

        }

but this event never fires?

Has anyone figured out how to properly render HTML tags data in the List.aspx's GridView1?

If I figure this out, then I can add a MetaAttribute called something like [EncodeAsHtml(true)] and be on my way.  Thanks!

Problems with Forms Authentication in DD 4 site

Hello,  I am seeing a strange problem with Forms Authentication in my DD site.   A user logs into and can view/edit/delete data all day, but when they execute a Custom Filter against data (for example , a control DynamicData/Filters/CustomerLastNameSearch.ascx ) then the site auth fails, and redirects to the log in screen.

in web.config I have

     <authentication mode="Forms">
            <forms name=".Star" loginUrl="~/Login.aspx" protection="All" defaultUrl="~/Default.aspx" path="/" timeout="43200" cookieless="UseCookies" />
        </authentication>

Offhand, I am thinking two things : that DynamicData/Filters path requires some special handling for some reason, or the control extension ascx is causing auth to get confused.   Has anyone else experienced this or have any suggestions?  Thanks!

Problems posting to a package

Hey Y'all

I'm currently creating a program that accesses a mysql package to add data to a few tables.  I'm currently getting an error that says  "

ORA-01403: no data found
ORA-06512: at "JESSE.PKG_WORKPLAN", line 42
ORA-06512: at "JESSE.PKG_WORKPLAN", line 177
ORA-06512: at line 1

"

These lines are

42: INSERT INTO WP_PROJECTS_USERS (PROJECT_USERS_ID, FIELD_UNIT_ID, PROJECT_ID, USER_ID, START_DATE, DESCRIPTION)

and 177:add_team_members(V_PROJECT_ID, V_START_DATE, v_FISC_YEAR, V_MEMBERS ,V_NUM_MEMBERS,'add');

Checking these variables in my asp.net page they are all receiving parameters.

Is there a  way to see what the database is actually receiving from the asp.net page?

Or is there another thing to be looking at?

Thanks!

URL Routing and Existing HttpHandler problems

Hello everyone,

I have a problem:

I am currently using 2 features:

1. HttpHandler

Registering the path="res.aspx" verb="*"

2. URL Routing:

Registering with this pattern: "Company/Edit/{*companyId}","~/CompanyEdit.aspx"

In my CompanyEdit.aspx page, I used httphandler res.aspx to generate some images at client.

  • res.aspx?img=1
  • res.aspx?img=3

Now the problem is here, the page is load success with companyId = "12345", but when the images was loaded at client, it loaded the CompanyEdit.aspx again and show error with wrong id.

I have debug and find the problem that because when image's urls were generated to client with url=res.aspx?img=1, url=res.aspx?img=3, the asp.net will understand that they are Company/Edit/res.aspx?img=1, Company/Edit/res.aspx?img=3 when it maps with URL Routing pattern.

=> So the CompanyEdit.aspx was load again with wrong id (id now is "res.aspx").

So, do you have any ideas to solve this problem, or other design.

Thanks, and best regard

ASP.NET 4 precompilation problems

Hello!

We used ASP.NET precompilation (first manually, then with VS2008 WDP) with .NET 3.5 almost (see below) successfully.

After we moved to 4.0, the precompilation no longer works properly. The precompilation process itself succeeds, and the website works, but it consumes about twice the CPU it does without any precompilation. We use non-updatable precompilation (so webpages get compiled completely).

Our internal profiling tells us that most of the threads spend their time within variations of the following stack:

...

  System.Web.dll!System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultFromCacheInternal(System.Web.VirtualPath virtualPath, bool ensureIsUpToDate) + 0xa2 bytes
  System.Web.dll!System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultInternal(System.Web.VirtualPath virtualPath, bool noBuild, bool allowCrossApp, bool allowBuildInPrecompile, bool throwIfNotFound, bool ensureIsUpToDate) + 0x5b bytes
  System.Web.dll!System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultWithNoAssert(System.Web.HttpContext context, System.Web.VirtualPath virtualPath, bool noBuild, bool allowCrossApp, bool allowBuildInPrecompile, bool throwIfNotFound, bool ensureIsUpToDate) + 0xcb bytes
  System.Web.dll!System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResult(System

Problems converting VS 2003 project to VS 2008

Hi!

I'm having problems converting a VS 2003 project to VS 2008 (tried 2005 as well, same problem). There are several problems;
a) I don't have VS 2003 installed.
b) The project is a web service, however I'm not sure what type of VS project it was created as.
c) The general knowledge about the project setup is..slim.

I get a error message using the conversion wizard, however, I'm not familiar with the tool and I cannot quite find any good information on Google for it, so I am left with a error message I do not understand.

Conversion Issues - myProject.csproj:
Unable to open the Web site 'C:\local\path\to\project\myProject.csproj'. The Web site 'C:\local\path\to\project\myProject.csproj' does not exist.

The web service is not intended to run on the dev machine, it is copied to a test or a prod server. However, I do not know how this was done previously. I'm thinking that in order to convert, it has to access the server on which it should run (which is set somehow in a config maybe). But that doesn't actually make any sence..

If anyone could shed light on this, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.

.AspNet-Menu-Selected Problems

I am trying to have the selected item in the menu be noticeable different than the other items.  I am able to change the border as in the samples, but nothing else. I would like the selected font color to change as well as the background image / color.  Here is a sample page and style sheet.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
