Can netNamedPipeBinding be affected by profile/permission issues?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WCF

I'm not sure how to describe this problem.  To summarize:  I have a .net 4 application that hosts a WCF service to which other applications connect via IPC (named pipes); all apps are on the same machine.  Some machines are WinXP SP3 and others are Win 7.  I'm seeing issues related to certain user profiles and am not sure how to deal with this since all users are set up with local admin privileges on their machines.

Scenario 1:

- Multiple users can log on to the same machine (at different times) and successfully use the applications that communicate to one another via WCF.

- For one user in particular, however, the wcf proxy calls aren't received between the applications.  Nothing has changed in the setup...all other user profiles on the same machine work fine.  It's just one user that has this problem.  Further, this user could move to another machi

Customized Announcement List (Possible Permission Issues)

I am working in SharePoint 2007 with a portal site and related subsites for the various divisions within the company. I have created a custom announcement list template which is used on each subsite so that each deivision has it own announcements. I have a cotnent query web part on the main portal page that pulls all the announcements for the various subsite to the main portal page.  I am finding that only me and another individual has full rights are able to see the announcements contents (image, title and short description) via the CQWP, visitors only see the title and the rollup image of the announcement but should see a short description of the announcement. If the visitor clicks the title of the announcement they are able to see the entire contents of the announcement. I have checked the permissions on each list under the list setting and visitors all have read permissions. Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting?   Thanks,

Issues with updating Lists with Manager Names and User Profile Imports in SharePoint 2010 Server

I am having a curious problem with SharePoint 2010 Server. I have imported all the user profiles of our organization into SharePoint User Profile Service Application from our Active Directory. When the Manager name imports it comes in as domain/login. The organizational browser seems to work for MOST people, but not all. I believe this is contributing to my second problem, which is, I have setup a very simple workflow in SharePoint Designer that simply looks up the persons Manager, then places that information into a field called "Approval 1". After that it looks at Approval 1 and get the Manager name and populated "Approval 2" with that information, and so on. I have used an Impersonation Step as the Farm Administrator in the workflow and I have done it without the impersonation step. Both results in the same problem. When I enter my name into the list and run the workflow it runs beautifully give every manager up the chain to the top. However, if I put any other person's name in there it gives me the error "Workflow failed to get user profile for user: ____". I went to my supervisor's office and asked him to run the workflow. Using his login he had the exact same result--if my name was in there it worked great, otherwise, it gave an error. Any help with this strange error would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

SharePoint 2010 Profile Synchronization Issues

Hi Guys, I hope you can give me a hand on this. I am having a synchronization issue and it has me puzzled.  I have my moss server up and running without any issue.  It is even being used by departments already…which is great…documents are being uploaded…my sites created…department pages…etc.  Around mid-July I set up the user synchronization with AD…which worked fine.  I was able to set up profile synching without any issues…  The issue I am having now is that the profile syncing is no longer running for some reason.  When I click on Configure Synchronization connections, my old connection isn’t there anymore…so I click new and get the following message.   "Cannot navigate to the requested page while user profile synchronization is running.  Please wait for the current Synchronization to finish"   when i check my Profile Sync Settings, i see that User profile sync is not currently provisioned...and the incremental sync schedule is disabled.   And when I check the running jobs…I do not have any jobs running.   And finally, when I check the services running on the MOSS server, my User Profile Synchronization Service is sitting on stopped…and when I click start…it stays on starting for about 15 mins…and then goes back to stopped

"Use Social Features" permission in "User Profile Service Application"

We wish to disable the "Tags and Notes" feature on our SharePoint 2010 site.  When I remove the "Use Social Features" permission from the "User Profile Service Application" this also removes the "My Site" link from the drop down at the top of the page.

Why on earth would this happen?  According to the TechNet page on social features (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee721063.aspx) the Use Social Features permission "Includes social tags, Note Board, and ratings."  Nothing in there indicates that it would remove the link to My Site.

My Site continues to work of course, it is just that the link is removed (which confuses users).

We want to disable Tags and Notes but leave the link to My Site.  Is there a way?

New Windows 7 compuer with SQL Server 2008 Express - permission issues

I avoided Vista because of the overbearing security issues but I put Windows 7 Ultimate on my new computer. I really like it so far except for 2 big issues. I won’t go into VPN nightmare I’m having here but the other is that for the first time ever I’m having lots of SQL Server permission issues. I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate, I run SSMS as an administrator how can I get full rights on my SQL Server as I had in XP where I could create files anywhere?

The first issue I had was that I couldn’t install the AdventureWorkLT DB because I didn’t have create permissions (that is bizarre default) but I got around that by granting Full Control to the Data folder.

Now I’m having another problem that I cannot solve. I cannot even export a SQL Query to a file. I get an “unrecoverable error” popup. Here is what is in event viewer but if click the link in event viewer the suggestions of how to fix it does not work.

My profile -- grant permission to other to edit the information

I would like to know if one can grant permission to another person to edit "My Profile" or "My Site"? That is certain people will be able to edit my profile and do various things as if the person iteself.

Thanks in advance.

Code Optimized Web Development Profile (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

When you first run VS 2010 it prompts you to select an IDE profile to use. The profile you select will configure how tool windows are displayed/docked in the IDE by default and set the default keyboard shortcuts. You can then customize any of these settings by using the Tools->Options menu within the IDE and then override/change them. You can also later reset your profile and pick a different one by choosing the Tools->Import and Export Settings menu command.

Configuring Profile Image Export in SharePoint 2010

It's no secret that I am thrilled with the new social features of SharePoint 2010. I am most excited about the new Profile Picture handling. I strongly believe that the more we can show the faces of our colleagues to one another the more connected we will feel. Clearly Microsoft feels that way as witnessed by the many features that make use of the Profile Image like the Activity Feed and Colleagues list

System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPerm

Good Day all,

Having an issue with an outside user accessing my IIS7 box. I do not have this problem when running the website from my host machine. I found this post: Http://forums.asp.net/t/1371394.aspx. I assure you that this is not a solution because I am not storing any of my files on a network share.

What do you think my approach should be.

I already have read rights to IIS user to my BIN folder.

Thanks for the help.

Profile not being save after redirect.

I am trying to save values into a Profile on Page1, then redirect to Page2 and access those values.  However, after the page redirects the profile values are blank as if they were never saved.   When stepping through the code I can see that they are being save on Page 1.

I suppose I could use session variables to store the information but I don't understand why saving the profile doesn't work.

        if (Global.CurrentUserName.Length > 0)
            profile = this.Profile.GetProfile(Global.CurrentUserName);
        profile.FirstName = uxFirstNameShipping.Text;
        profile.LastName = uxLastNameBilling.Text;

I am trying to make URLs for users profile pages like Facebooks e.g. http://site.com/username. I had a code snippett from a book for how to do this but when it runs it says its processing a request that will never finish. Im new with HttpModules/handlers but Ive looked over like 100 pages trying to figure this out. My code is below. Any help figuring this out would be greatly appreciated..
