Using AxSpreadsheet in Windows Form with Visual Studio 2008

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application
Hi. at our company we had a very big Visual Studio 2003 solution which was recently migrated to Visual Studio 2008 and .NET Framework 2.0. Everything works fine, except this one form where we use an AxSpreadsheet control so that the user can manipulate an Excel Spreadsheet directly from the form, and we can programatically access the cells he modifies. We are using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Owc11.AxSpreadsheet, which we already signed in VS2003, and worked perfectly. Now, when I try to open the form in desing time, I get an error that says: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. Of course, I get the same error at runtime.

Any help? Thanks a lot.

Windows XP, Visual Studio Express 2010 and SQL Server 2008 Express - How can I save modified columns

I am using c# in VS 2010 Express. I have a MDF database that I connect to through "Database Explorer". Database Explorer will not let me SAVE columns that I have modified. As I know in SQL Server 2008 full edition you can change the setting "Prevent saving changes that require table recreation" in Management Console to prevent this. I haven't got Management Console and can't see it in install.

How do I change this setting if I haven't got management console? Is it in Registry or Config File.

Help deploying Windows Service to 64bit Server usinf Visual Studio 2008 Setup Project?

I have a Windows Service I created a while back for our Win2003/2008 32bit Servers, written in Visual Studio 2008, deployed via a VS2k8 Setup Project.  Everything works great, installs fine, and runs as it should.  There is no platform dependent code, it's all straight-up .Net Framework stuff, so we thought it should deploy to a Win2008 64bit Server just fine.  But this seems not to be the case.

When I try to install the Service as is on the 64bit machine, the service and associated DLL's are installed to the "C:\Windows\SysWOW64" folder, but when you right click the Service itself and look at the properties, it is trying to find the .exe file in the "C:\Windows\System32" folder. This difference prevents the service from running, obviously.

If I change the Setup Project settings, set the Target Platform to "x64" and change in the File System screen to use the "System (64-bit) Folder" placing the files in there and re-run the setup.exe on the server.... now the files are correctly installed to the "C:\Windows\System32" folder, but the Service itself is not 'installed', that is it *does not* show up in the Services Manager.

Just for the giggles of it I tried to manually install the service using 'installutil.exe' in the .Net Fra

Windows Application Migration - Visual Studio 2008 to 2010 - The "GenerateResource" task failed unex

I hav a windows forms application built using VS 2008 which I am trying to migrate to VS 2010 & .net 4.0.

I got this nasty bug and found that it is due to the embedded images in the resource file.

<!-- [if gte mso 10]> <mce:style>

The "GenerateResource" task failed unexpectedly. System.InvalidOperationException: The security state of an AppDomain was modified by an AppDomainManager configured with the NoSecurityChanges flag.

I tried the following solutions suggested in various forums.

visual studio 2010 and 2008 ide on windows 7 64 bit seems to be blocked from reading the registry

I am using:
1. visual studio 2008 and visual studio 2010
2. windows 7 ultimate
3. 64 bit gateway
4. I am using a third party control that has been registered using regsvr32
5. its wrapper was created with 64 bit aximp
6. The code runs but  in design mode nothing shows:
Warning 1 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))  0 0

7.I used regedit and tried to give all the user's permission to read the registry entry for the item - didn't work.

8. The same code and situation works fine in windows vista home: which means  visual studio cannot read the registry on the windows 7 pc

What do I need to do

Windows form hanging when ran outside of Visual Studio 2010

I have a windows form that starts a background worker to grab data from a database and put it into a datagridview through a bound datatable. So a decent summary would be:

1. Main Thread: Get a load of order numbers

2. Main Thread: Start a background worker

3. Worker Thread: Go through the order numbers, getting order details and putting them in a datatable

3.1 Worker Thread: Call my progresschanged method after each time we put order details into the datatable and force the form to update

And this is all fine. It works as expected. Everything is responsive, all the orders load into the view, etc etc. Program done. However, as soon as I run this outside of Visual Studio (so running the .exe in the debug or release folder) it hangs every time the last time it's going to call progesschanged.

So say there are 50 orders, after getting the details for order 50 and calling progresschanged the main thread locks up instantly. There are no errors reported, there is still free memory in the machine, and it works 100% of the time when running through VS.

I have no idea where to look to fix this.

Compatibility issues between Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and Windows Server 2008 R2

Dear sirs,

When I was installing SQL Server 2005 64 bit on Windows Server 2008 R2, I received a notice informing the software Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 has known compatibility issues with this version of Windows.

So how can I get around these problems?

I need to use Visual Studio 2005 to create the Integration Services packages.

Also, I need to migrate directories of Integration Services packages from a server with SQL Server 2005 32 bit on Windows Server 2003 32 bit for a server with SQL Server 2005 64 bit on Windows Server 2008 R2. How can I proceed to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Debugging in Visual Studio 2008 Second level form

I'm using Visual Studio 2008 in developing VB.NET windows application , this application contains MDI_PARENT form and many MDI_CHILDS forms.

when i run F5 (start debugging) , and stop in BREAK-POINTS and need to edit the code , it allows me to edit in MDI-PARENT form code , but when i try to edit the MDI-CHILD code it gave me the following message :

changes are not allowed when the debugger has been attached to an already running process.....

I went to:

Tools -> Options -> Debugging -> Edit and Continue

then i disable "Enable Edit and Continue" remove the Checkbox before it . then when i tried to edit it gave me the following error

cannot currently modify this text in the editor. it is read-only

so, how could I enable Edit and Continue in MDI-CHILDS forms ???

Visual Studio closes itself by opening aspx-Page designer after Windows Update

Hey Guys,

I've a problem with my Visual Studio.

On the 13th of August 2010 i installed a Windows update on my vista sp2 pc. For this date my Visual Studio 2008 sp 1 always has closed itself by opening an aspx-page in designer view. There is no error message just closing the window. I restored a backup of my windows from the time before updating it and it helped, i could open aspx pages in the design view till the update has been installed again automatically after rebooting the pc. I can't disable windows updates, cause it's my pc at work and safety is very important. I hope you could help me out of this disaster.
