Deploy performancepoint dashboard via WSP using VS2010

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I've created a solution containing various sharepoint customisations for a site that I am working on.  This is all working well as the customisations are packaged up as a feature and added to the site using feature activiation.

However, I am now onto the final piece of the site - a performancepoint dashboard that I have created using the dashboard designer.  I want to store the objects from the dashboard within the visual studio project so that when the feature is activated, the dashboard is created within the site.

I cannot work out how to retrieve the actual performance point objects in order to incorporate them into the project, or how to re-create them in the site when the feature is activated.  Can anyone point me towards some examples or help - I have not been able to find anything useful so far.

Many thanks,

How to deploy dashboards made in dashboard designer to diferent site collections?

Hi I just migrated from sharepoint 2007 to 2010. We used to have performance point dashboards spread across libraries in subsites all across our primary site collection "Http://server:x" after I migrated I understand that I must migrate all performance point content to a new site or site collection made with the business intellingence template. I created a new site collection with this template (Http://server:x/sites/pps) and succesfully migrated all performance point content. Now I want to redeploy all the dashboards to their respective subsites in the  "Http://server:x" site collection so that everything looks exactly as it did when we where using SharePoint 2007. But when I try to deploy to a site I only get the option to deploy it to the ("Http://server:x/sites/pps") site collection and its respective libraries. I wish to manage all dashboard content centralized in (Http://server:x/sites/pps) but I want to deploy dashboards to libraries across  "Http://server:x" is this posible or how is Performance Point services supossed to work?   I also having trouble with DashBoard designer. I have everthing running on a Virtual Machine test enviroment. With windows server 2008 r2, 4 gb ram. Everything installed in one machine. And Suddently DashBoard Designer Crashes In the event log I get the error Dashboa

Can I deploy a custom site page from the VS2010 SharePoint project?

Hi We're setting up some demos of our sharepoint plugins and want to easily deploy these into sharepoint so that all members of the company can easily get the demos running on their own machines. This is fine for layouts, web parts and so on - but the demo also has a customised sharepoint home page (which I edited in SP Designer) - how do I make this edited home page part of the VS2010 project so that it can be deployed easily to any site collection?   Thanks

PerformancePoint Dashboard Problems

I am having a few problems with a dashboard I am trying to create. The first problem, is that I have an analytical chart, that was working correctly before. It is just a line graph with numbers on the y axis, and date on the x axis. When I created the chart, the database only had entries for four days, all of which showed up.  Today, I updated the table to where it has 15 days of data now, but only the original four entries still show up. Secondly, I have created a time intelligence filter. The filter itself works fine when I preview it. The formulas are correct, and my hierarchy is correct. The problem comes when I try to create the connection between the filter and the chart.  On my available fields under the filter, I have, "display condition, time, display value, member unique name, formula, and the name of my data source. I obviously want the time filter to change the time field on my chart.  I dragged "formula" down to the chart, selected Time PK Date as the "connect to," and set formula to the source Value. I believe those should be the correct settings, yes? well when I deploy the dashboard to my sharepoint site, I get this error: "Error running data source query. Contact the administrator for more details."   Since I am the administrator, I checked out the event logs, and was given these errors: --------------

PerformancePoint Dashboard using Excel Services - How to export or print?

I have a PPS dashboard in 2010 that has an Excel services report with a nice graph and grid.  I do not see an "export to Excel" toolbar or a print function.  In the old 2007 Sharepoint, the Excel services report had a menu which allowed the user to export to excel (copy / paste) or OPEN in Excel.  (actually open the pivot table) How do I expose that menu bar in 2010?  Thanks.

Deploy Performance Point Scorecards, KPI's, Dashboard, Reports

I am looking for suggestion on deploying;

1) Performance Point Scorecards, KPI's, Dashboard, Reports created using dashboard designer from one enviornment to another.

2) Performance Point Web Parts like KPI web part, scorecard web part and report web part.

3) Performance Point Data Sources

Does SharePoint Solution Package support this scenario? How will this work?

Our goal is to define all the configuration for each release which will include add new content, webe pages having various sharepoint web parts and update sharepoint content for future release.

Thank you for your input in advance.

cannot find PivotTable report tempalte in PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer

I want to create PivotTable report in PerformancePoint Dashboard designer, as I checked in the link http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/performancepoint-server/create-a-pivottable-report-by-using-performancepoint-dashboard-designer-HA010257416.aspx ,I should be able to do the following step:

{In Dashboard Designer, click the Create tab, and then click Other Reports. ClickPivotTable, and then click OK. The Create a PivotTable Report wizard opens.}

But I am not able to find PivotTable in 'Other Reports' in Create tab, could you please tell me is there any prerequisite need to be done before I start the above step?

How to deploy PerformancePoint content ?

Hi, What is the recommended method of deployment for Performance Point content (Charts, Scorecards, KPI, Dashboard, etc) from one environment to another? I just tried a site collection backup and restore but that didn't quite work. Thanks!

PerformancePoint Dashboard Deployment

I'm new to working with PerformancePoint 2010 and I'm trying to figure out all the functionality.

I would like to create a dashboard and then deploy it via a WSP or some other automated way. Is this possible?

I plan on creating the dashboard in development and then manually add the generated .ASPX files to my WSP solution. This seems like a round about way that I haven't proven to work yet.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

PerformancePoint Services - Dashboard Designer won't launch from PerformancePoint Content library

There are a couple of ways to launch Dashboard Designer for PerformancePoint Services. One of them is to go to a BI Center site, than to the PerformancePoint Content library and click New Item on the Items tab of the ribbon. If you then select one of the items listed, eg a PerformancePoint KPI, Dashboard Designer should launch.

Now in my case, it doesn't. I get a popup titled 'Dashboard Designer Redirect' telling me 'Loading Dashboard Designer...', but when the popup disappears after a few seconds, nothing happens. In the SharePoint logs, I can find a few errors, listed below. What intrigues me here is that the problem seems to be caused by a resource file ppsma.Client.en-US.en-US.resx that cannot be found. Note the double en-US.enUS in there. I do see the resource file in the listed location, but it has en-US in it's filename only once.

This is not a serious problem as I do have other options to launch Dashboard Designer, like going to the Data Connections library, then select New Document - PerformancePoint Data Source, which will launch DD. Or go to the BI Center main page and select the 'Start using PerformancePoint Services' link and start DD from there, which also works. But I am just curious whether there is something wrong with my installation, or this is a bug I should report on MS Connect.

The errors in the log:

Deploy MasterPage using VS2010

when i deploy, this appear :Error occurred in deployment step 'Activate Features': Failed to instantiate file "MasterPage1.master" from module "MasterPage": Source path "Features\MasterPage_Feature1\MasterPage\MasterPage1.master" not found.

there are something wrong in it?

How to Deploy WCF service(developed using VS2010) on IIS7.0 as a RESTful Service.

Hi Guys,

I am new to WCF development, and i just developed a WCF service using VS2010 as per my client's urgent requirement. They need a RestFul service , which reads data from an Publishing ShraePoint Library which has anonymous access. Intially i tried using the sharePoint built in restful service (LISTDATA.SVC), but as it looks for authentication, it is failing to provide data.

Coming back to the problem, I have developed the wcf service and its working well on wcfclient. I need to deploy this on IIS7.0 as a restful service.

Any guidence and leads would be helpful. This is a bit urgent too.

VS2010 Professional .NET 4.0 Remote Debugging ASP Website Project

Trying to remote debug ASP website from VS2010 Pro to Windows Server 2003 machine.  Specifically, trying to debug a Web Service, but breakpoint says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."  This happens for all compiled code though.  I have read this is due to missing PDB files and the work around is to manually copy them, as noted here.  Problem is, I cannot find any PDB files for my project, except referenced libraries, which I can remote debug.

  • web.config has <compilation debug="true">
  • Debugger is attached to wewp.exe process on remote server
  • Installed VS2010 remote debugger from DVD (as I can remote debug referenced libraries)

This is beyond frustrating.  I migrated my code from VS2008 .Net3.5 to VS2010 .Net4.0 to take advantage of the inherent multithreading framework.  Debugging works when using local host and was stable until deployment to test server.

Thanks in advance,

How can I be sure that my entire project is up-to-date and free of errors in VS2010?

Seems like a stupid question, but I will go to Build > Build Solution many many times and the build will succeed many many times, then I will put in a minor syntax error and the build will fail, BUT the build will not fail because of the minor syntax error; it will fail because of an unresolved type that I put in about twenty compiles ago. And then I will fix the minor syntax eror, and the compiler will still complain about the unresolved type. Here is my code:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="FTB" Namespace="FreeTextBoxControls" Assembly="FreeTextBox" %>
  <form runat="server">
  Hello World!!

Pretty simple, really. I go to Buld > Build WebApplication1 and it runs OK. Now, if I put in a minor syntax error, such as substitute "forrrrrrrm" for "form" and then try to Build Solution, it complains not about the misspelled word, but about the FreeTextBox. And then if I correct the misspelled wird, it still complains about the FreeTextBox. Which leads me to believe that Building the Solution does not check absolutely 100% everything that needs to be checked. Is there a more thorough way of compiling a program that I need to use?
