Removing standard text from custom feedback process email notification

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

My workflow has a Start Feedback Process action, which contains some pre-defined instructions. One of my instructions is to use a particular link to open the workflow history page – I have added this to force the user to open the form via the workflow history page (we're using Forms Services) because the email’s default link opens the form in the InfoPath client, not the browser. It also allows the user to be returned to the page where they will complete their workflow task (we're trying to make navigation as easy for them as possible).

Although I have defined my own set of instructions, the email notification I receive includes some standard text that links to the InfoPath form’s xml file. I don’t want users inadvertently clicking the “To complete this task…” link at the bottom of the email and having the form open in InfoPath. Here is an example of the email I’m referring to:

email notification error 5.1.1

I am getting an error when sending email via asp.net.  The error is "Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.1.1...User unknown."

However, the email is getting sent.  Why is asp.net returning this error?

I'm using VS 2008, vb.net,  running 2.0 framework.  This happens regardless of whether I'm testing my application from my local machine or running production version.  Also, I can send a batch of emails and get the error for some but not all.

I would like to be able to count of the error messages really being accurate, so this situation is unhelpful to our users, because they will start to just ignore all error messages.

Data Deployment: Streamline Your Database Setup Process with a Custom Installer

Database setup can be a tough and time-consuming process and sometimes fall victim to human error. Microsoft Installer or InstallShield can help, as can your own custom installer. In this article, the author tackles one approach to writing database installers and demonstrates the process with a working code sample.

Text Calculation - Removing all text after space

I have a list with workflows that was created for one of our clients that allows them to enter some information and the workflow takes care of sending emails to the necessary recipients as well as notifying the person the task is assigned to when it has reached a certain status or age. The "agent name" colum contains the agent's first and last name (ie John Smith).  I am wondering if there is a way that in the workflow, when an email is generated, if I am able to remove the last name using some sort of text calculation.  The reason I would like to try and do it this way if possible is that if I add the Columns Agent First Name and Agent Last Name, the current Agent Name colum that is being used to generate the agent's name in the email will now not be the correct column to use for this information and the 100s of entries already in the lists will not send out emails properly. Does anyone have a suggestion for this, or know some sort of text calculation formula that I can use to remove the last name from the lookup in the email?

notification email not sent when updating a task programmatically

I have a task that's in the task list and has no value in the Assigned To field. When I update the field like this: listItem[SPBuiltInFieldId.AssignedTo] = SPContext.Current.Web.CurrentUser.ID; ListItem.Update(); The task is updated (the assigned to has filled in). But no notification has been send to the person in the assigned to. But when I change the assigned to manualy to another person, and then again to the person it was before, the notification is send. So the email works and the notifications are activated, why is there no notification sent when I change the assigned to programmatically?

putting carriage return/line feed in non-HTML email text

Using vb.net/asp.net 2005I am trying to create a string message for an email that I am sending out from my asp.net page like so: For Each dr In dtDataTable.Rows strMessage = strMessage & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & Environment.NewLine & dr.Item("UserName") & Environment.NewLine Next so I am looping through a datatable and getting each name from each row, that is working well but when I get the email it appears in my inbox with all the names mashed together, you see I am trying both vbcrlf and newline but looks like neither is workingdoes anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Site FAQ: Email Notification Settings

There are several settings that come into play with email notifications coming from the ASP.NET forums:Edit Profile (http://forums.asp.net/user/EditProfile.aspx)1. Receive Emails: [ ] Yes  [ ] No - This is the master email switch. Setting this to [ ] No will prevent ALL forums-related emails from being sent to you, including password reset emails (if you find yourself in that situation, please use the site's Contact form to request password reset assistance).  Setting this back to [ ] Yes will allow emails to once again be sent to you.  This setting could be handy if you will be away from the ASP.NET Forums for a while and are not interested in receiving emails from the site while you are away.2. Receive rich (HTML) emails [ ] Yes [ ] No - This affects only the format in which emails are sent.  It has no bearing on whether or not emails are sent.  If [ ] No is chosen, the email will be sent in plain text.3. Enable Email Notifications of forum/thread subscriptions and replies to my posts. [ ] Yes  [ ] No - This is the default value of thread subscriptions. This value is checked only at the time of your first post to a thread, and the thread subscription is set to this value. Changing this value has no effect on any existing thread subscriptions. To discontinue (or start) receiving email notifications for a particular thread, see #5 below.&n

Custom Email Alert template creating links to DispForm.aspx

I have a requirement to customise the alert template for a standard blog post list. To do this I: 1. Created a copy of alertstemplate.xml 2. Copied the genericList alert template node and customised 3. Registered the new template file against the site collection, iisreset and finally assigned the new Alert template to the list, when alerts are created the custom template is emailed. The problem now arises that the 'View <Post Title>' in the toolbar section now creates a hyperlink to http..../Lists/Posts/Dispform.aspx?ID=xx rather than post.aspx. I have checked using sharepoint designer that the list supporting files has the correct display item form of Lists/Posts/Post.aspx. Additionally if I reset the alert template for the list back to use the Generic list template the same problem still occurs so this leads me to believe it is not the customisations that are the problem. Code used to assign the alert template to the Posts list: var ats = new SPAlertTemplateCollection((SPWebService) site.WebApplication.Parent); var newTemplate = ats[alertName]; if (newTemplate == null) { // We did not find the specified Template. throw new Exception("Failed to find template SPAlertTemplateType.NewsPost in the template collection."); } list.AlertTemplate = newTemplate; list.Update(); Any assistance will be most welcome, thanks in advance. When a Task Expired step in a Start Custom Task Process action is not fired?!

When a Task Expired step is not fired?! I created a simple Workflow using the SharePoint Designer. Added one step to which I added the Start Custom Task Process and set the Due Date "2 minutes after now". For the When a task Expired step of the custom Task I added a Log to History List action, which doesn't seems to be fired. What good be wrong??? All the steps I did to create the workflow: Started SP Designer 2010 and created a reusalbe WF. Added Start Custom Task Process action to step 1. Changed the behavior of the When a task Expired stepof the custom task (added a Log to History List action). Changed the behavior of the Before Task is Assigned by adding a Set Field action which set the Due Date of the task to "Now + 2 minutes". Published the WF and started the WF for a simple list item. Unfortunately the Log to History List actionof the When a task Expired step is never called.

Reading each record from a text file and sending email

Hi All, I have a text file (CSV) which has only three fields (Name, Email, SendYN). I want to read each record from this text file and send email to those records where SendYN field has Y. I had created Flat File connection and a Flat File source in a data flow which uses Flat file connection. Now I stuck how to move further. Which control I need to add and where to identify whether SenderYN = Y and how to send email? I am new to SSIS. Thanks.

Can't Add Custom Task Process

I am trying to add a custom task process to a workflow in sharepoint designer , but i am asked to enable Sharepoint Standard Server Standard Site features.  So I go to Site settings and under Manage Site features I enable it.  It is still giving me the same error message.  Am I missing something here?     Thanks, Jaime

Send a workflow email as plain text

I'm using a (SP designer) workflow to send e-mail alerts. I need to be able to send the e-mail in plain text because the recipient is an e-mail-to-SMS service that cannot handle HTML messages. I tried adding <pre> tags to my message, this causes the message to look like plaintext in Outlook, but is still sending the message as text/html type which isn't compatible with the aforementioned SMS service. Any ideas how I can make sharepoint send the messages as true plain text?

Mail server is Exchange 2003 SP2.

Can't Get Text From Custom Wizard Step

I'm trying to get the text values from each textbox in a custom created createuserwizard step however i keep returning null for each textbox however the default step & text boxes (ie. UserName, Password, Email, etc, etc) i can get the text value with no problem

A Href removing space when passing a string in a email

In an email action I'm building a string using an <A href.  I'm working with a list called Document Sets and also a column called Document Set.  I'm passing to a page the current document set in order to filter a web part.

Here is the example

<A href="http://test.net/sites/r3bs/DocSetPAHO/Site%20Pages/dynamic.aspx?DocumentSet=<%Document Set%>">Click here to review the items.</A>

The problem is that when the document set column data contains a space (such as Company Overview), the email removes the space between Company and Overview (as seen below).  If I add the Document Set column to the email directly it displays fine with the space

[%Document Sets:Document Set%]

I've tried storing the value to a workflow variable but it still removes the space in the actual email.
