Sorry for such a basic question. I have tried many config tweaks to install Foundation 2010 but always failed to configure the Farm. The error msg is:

New-SPConfigurationDatabase : The given key was not present in the dictionary .
At C:\SPFInstScripts\DCRM_Install.ps1:58 char:28

SPECS: Windows 2008 R2, SQL Server 2008 R2, Pre-Req install OK, SPF 2010 Binaries install OK.

The error happens, whether I use the "SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard", a PS script, or simply type New-SPConfigurationDatabase in powershell (run as admin) and input manually the missing arguments. I rebuilt a brand new VM from scratch and this error still occurred.

Reviewing the logs doesn't hint any obvious err

Office 2010 Web Applications Install Error

We have a SharePoint 2010 Server setup in a farm configuration with a SQL 2008R2 clustered back-end that we are attempting to install Office Web Applications on.  We are following the technet article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff431687.aspx#bkmk_ins_exis_farm.  When we attempt to install the Office Web Applications on the SharePoint 2010 server (logged in as a member of the Administrators/farm admins) the progress bar completes and then displays the error "Microsoft Office Web Apps encountered an error during setup".  Looking through the Wac Server Setup.log file that setup generates doesn't yield much or any clues as to what is failing (it's lengthy and appears to just be detailing applications of a variety of languages installing and then rolling back).  The event logs are also filled with messages about the various Web Apps installing in a variety of languages and then rolling back when setup fails.  The only MsiInstaller event in the event logs that looks of any consequence is: "Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Microsoft Office Web Apps Application Server Components. Product Version: 14.0.4763.1000. Product Language: 0. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Installation success or error status: 1603." Does anyone have any experience with this issue or any suggestions/guidance?

SharePoint 2010 Cumulative Update - Install sequence - Foundation required or not?

For a SharePoint 2010 Server (not Foundation) environment, is it necessary to install the Foundation Cumulative Update as well as the Server Cumulative Update?  (In the same way that with 2007, you install the WSS update and then the MOSS update) The nearest I have found to an answer is here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sharepoint/ff800847.aspx where it says 'We recommend that you always install SharePoint Foundation 2010 patches before installing SharePoint Server 2010 patches. This best practice ensures that you will always be successful when installing updates.'   In this regard, should 2010 Foundation be thought of as a pre-req, or underlying component, for 2010 Server?   The same question applies to the use of the Updates folder in the install media - for a Server install, should we be extracting both the Foundation and Server Cumulative Updates there, for a correct slipstreamed install?   Thanks.   Rob

host-named site collection, 401 error (SP Foundation 2010)

I'm trying to create a host-named site collection. However, after its creation, I try to access it with the browser and I'm challenged to enter my username/password  (validating through Active Directory, I believe) and I get a blank page. Looking in the IIS log I see a 401 error with sub-status 1. I'm creating everything programmatically through the  API. I'm following this article:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288637.aspx# It's not clear in the article exactly what DNS does or should do with host-named site collections. I added a line to my hosts file:   altlocalhost And I can ping altlocalhost with no problem. When I deploy directly a simple site collection without host-named stuff I'm not challenged to enter user name/password and the site works fine (and I'm authenticated with AD).

Microsoft.NET version 3.0 Install Error: Installation failed for Windows Communication Foundation. M

Please help! I've been trying for the last day and a half to properly install Microsoft.NET version 3.5 so that I can install TurboTax and do my taxes. I was only on version 1.1. Multiple tries to upgrade to 3.5 was giving me a code 1603 error on install on "Microsoft.NET version 2.0a". I followed advice from forums here and elsewhere to uninstall and reinstall my prior versions. I also used Windows Install Cleanup before reinstalling. I keep getting to the same result when I try to go from version 2.0 to version 3.5. In my last attempt, I went all the way back to version 1.0 and installed each step up to 2.0 SP1 with (allegedly) no problems. This last time I decided to upgrade to 3.0 instead of going right to 3.5. Now I get the following error message: [04/03/10,04:07:14] Windows Communication Foundation: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Windows Communication Foundation. After Installing SharePoint Foundation 2010, trying to open site gives 404 error in browser

I had this as reply on a thread about migrating from WSS 3.0 to SFS 2010. But I have completed all the steps with the modified documentation, but the browser delivers an error 404 when I try to open the site I created.  Same thing happens if I go at it via https, but first I get a certificate warning error (using the IP instead of the FQDN) and then being prompted for credentials.

I am completely stumped at what else to look at.  Any help in gathering information to get help is also appreciated.

Environment:  SBS 2008, SFS 2010, SQL Express 2008.  Rest of the IIS sites continue to function normally and I can get to the management site ok.  Although after the install, I had to go into application pool and change the service account from the domain admin (it defaulted to that) to networkservice account, otherwise I got a 503.  Same thing happened on the site I created until I changed the service account.  Now just a 404.

Install Error -- The install in progress conflicts with a previous installed MS Office 2010 Server P

Working on a development image in Hyper-V.  This image had never had any beta installed of any product.  Had SharePoint Server 2010 and Office Web Apps installed but another installation of another product messed up IIS settings.  It was easier to just uninstall both and start again.  I uninstalled both fine but now when I try to reinstall SharePoint I get an error message saying:

"The install install in progress conflicts with a previous installed Microsft Office 2010 Server Product"

I have done multiple reboots, manually deleted the SharePoint folders on the machine and run CC Cleaner.  Still I get this error.

I even tried the advice suggsted in this blog post: http://blogs.technet.com/chad/archive/2010/04/28/Installing-SharePoint-2010-RTM-Over-Previous-Versions.aspx even though I never had beta installed.

Anyone have anythoughts?

Microsoft Project 2010 synchronize with SharePoint Foundation error (invalid characters)

I have been unable to synchronize my MS Project with a SharePoint Foundation tasks list. Each time I try I get the following message:

"Unable to synchronize the project with the SharePoint tasks list because the list name contains invalid characters. Modify the list name and synchronize again. Valid list names cannot contain any of the following characters: !.[]'"

I click OK and the process stops. It creates the Task list in SharePoint but does no more.

The SharePoint task list name is not the issue. I've tried a few (Project Tasks, tasks etc). It's not the Task Name in Project either. I'm using a test project file with only two tasks called "Startup" and "planning".

Any ideas?

An error has occured in sharepoint 2010 foundation

I'm having problems with installing SharePoint foundation 2010. Istallation finishes without any errors and the configuration wizard just as well. But when I the try to open the following url (http://server:port/_admin/adminconfigintro.aspx?scenarioid=adminconfig&welcomestringid=farmconfigurationwizard_welcome) a blank page with the text an error has occurred. Also, after turning customerrors off and httperrors to custom, I get a 500 error when accessing the central administration.

Because of some research I have done I found out that turning the pipeline mode to classic instead of integrated fixes that issue. But if I do that I cannot access any page anymore (e.g. the /default.aspx). I get a 404 - not found.

Any help is very much appreciated.
