Button in a form that does not submit

I've been trying to figure this out all afternoon but my google-fu seems to be failing me. I'm setting up a page with a fairly large form, which has one field that is going to require some kind of popup page that will allow the user to perform a lookup. At the moment I'm only prototyping the page so I'm actually only attempting to a the button up to fire an alert when the button is clicked instead of generating a lookup screen. However it seems that no matter what I do the button causes the form to submit.

I remember one of the very first ASP .NET beginner videos I ever watched went through configuring a button to perform actions without submitting, but I can't seem to figure out which one it was.

Infopath form using Visual Studio - How to bind repeating table on submit button click ?

Hello friends,

I have created infopath form using Visual Studio 2008

Form have 3 dropdowns and one repeating table which is bound by Datasource ( List from sharepoint ).

whenever i select appropritae values from drop down, Repeating table gets bound as datasource for dropdown and repeating table are same.

I have done conditional formating for repeating table using repeating table properties.

My Question:

Now i included one submit button and i want when i click submit button it will check DropDown Values and if appropriate record matching these values found it will fill repeating table

How i achive this ? as i dont find how to bind repeating table on submit button.

Please help if anyone have answer.

Thanks and Regards,

Kapil Bhosale.

Button sets value in drop down list

Hi,

I want to make a button that changes the value in a dropdown list (dropdown populated from SQLdatasource)

This sounds strange i know but i have 4 dropdowns each hidden by panels, unless the preceeding dropdown's value is changed from it's initial value. So i make a selection from my first dropdown list & a postback occurrs triggering the next panel (and as such the dropdown list) to become visible, this occurs again until eventually my users will see 4 drop down boxes...(all required field vals etc)

As a result of this if at any point i change the value of my first dropdown back to '{Select}' then the other 3 i have all dissapear again, which s great - Effectively resetting my selection. I was thinking if i can create a button (which i'm going to call 'Reset) and make it change the first box's calue to '{Select}'...it would be ideal.

Anyone have any ideas?

Server side Submit button

I have several buttons on my form (it is a Telerik TabStrip control) that needs to do a server side postback when the user has focus on one of the buttons. It is a heavy data entry form and they require no mouse clicks. Strictly tabing to each field and then when the user tabs to one of the buttons and hits <ENTER> on the keyboard, I need to do a server side postback. I can't assign the <ENTER> key to a button, because I have multiple buttons on the form to do other things like look ups, etc, besides submitting the form.

Any ideas on how this can be accomplished?

Make validation controls trigger only not clicking on submit button and not on other navigational bu

I have required validation controls on a page.  If the user got to this page by mistake and wants to go to a different section of the website using the navigational buttons; required validators are triggered and it will not let the user navigate away.  How do I get validators to trigger only when a submit button is clicked?

Thanks in advance!

EditForm.aspx submit button prompts user to open/save document.

I'm not sure if anyone can help since I'm dealing with a slightly modified Edit Form and a custom work flow, but here it goes.

I am testing a SharePoint 2010 deployment which uses our 2007 production content database. Most of the database attachment process went okay, but I'm seeing something weird now on my EditForms. Whenever a user uploads a document to a particular document library, we send the user to an edit form to collect some meta data for some custom fields. As soon as you click the submit (OK) button, the form prompts you to open/save the file, as if you were trying to open it from the within the library. Once you handle that pop up, the form is then 'dead'. It doesn't redirect you as it should and the submit/cancel buttons no longer work (yet they are active).

Here's where it gets weird(er). If you try to upload a document from within the library itself, no problem. My issue only happens when you get to the upload page via a dataview of the library from a subsite (which is just a filtered dataview with a site specific filter, nothing too crazy). The link takes you to the normal OOB Upload.aspx just as if you were to get there from the document library itself, but for some reason navigating to it from the dataview (even though it takes you to the same page with the same list ID in the query string) the subsequent editform (again, same form

Handling XML data from PDF submit button

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a way to handle XML data that is sent from a dynamic PDF form.  I created an interactive form using Adobe LiveCycle Designer, and within it the submit button performs the following action:

<submit textEncoding="UTF-8" target="http://localhost:57179/default.aspx" embedPDF="1" format="xml"/>

The button works and my aspx page opens.  What I can't figure out now is how to handle the incoming xml file in asp.net.

I have code right now to parse through XML data that is saved on the server, I just need to figure out how to load it after the button is clicked.  I've looked into HTTP handlers but I can't tell if that's where I need to go. Please let me know if I can provide any more information, and thanks for any help!!

Custom Submit button rule breaks down in the middle of the actions

I have an infopath form that is published to a SharePoint library.  After the form is filled out, the user clicks a custom "Submit" button which has a rule with the following actions: 1) submit to main connection (database table), 2) submit to connection (SharePoint library - which starts an approval workflow in SharePoint), 3) thank-you message, and 4) close form without prompt.

99% of the time, all works well with form data getting submitted to database table, and also to the SharePoint library (which triggers the approval workflow).  1% of the time, when my custom submit button gets clicked, only the first rule action performs (i.e., data is submitted to main database connection), but the process stops at the action to submit to the SharePoint list.

I have checked and triple-checked the actions in the submit button rule, and they appear to be correct - and, in fact, behave correctly 99% of the time.  It's that 1% when the rule breaks at the point of submitting to SharePoint library that has me crazy.  This occurs only sporadically with different users -- users who it works correctly for most of the time.

I also have a form field I created called "DupChecker" that looks in the database table to see if the exact record exists, and if it does, it will not allow the user to submit it again.  So when the use
