How often is an alert sent on failure?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi all,

I have problems with alerts not getting sent (from time to time). I also see according logs which tell me that outgoing mail has been processed, but no mail has been sent. So I would be interested in the concrete implementation of the immediate alerts job - if sending a mail fails, how often is the action retried? Or is it even retried? I tried to analyze it with reflector, but I didn't find anything in the alerts timer job.

Thx, Mel

Sharepoint 2007 Farm email alert failure

We have a strange problem with our Sharepoint 2007 farm(Servers are 1 Sql Server 2008, 1 WFE, 1 Central Admin, 1 Index, 1 Qry, all  Windows Server 2008 64-bit).   I've searched for 4 days for a solution, without any luck. (I'm sure it doesn't help that I'm new to the care and feeding of Sharepoint.  I was initially reluctant to take on the responsibility because of my inexperience with the product and our consultants recommendation for a dedicated resource, but "ya gotta do what ya gotta do"...)

The initial problem reported on 4/5/2011 was that Sharepoint had stopped sending email alerts when items were updated.  This has been a recurring issue, although the problem has not always been within the Sharepoint environment boundaries(the email server in one notable case was the problem), but many times the problem has originated within Sharepoint.

As I checked into it, the problem this time appeared to be due to the Timer Job not running.  I checked the timer service, and for good

Conditional alert box in view

When a view is shown, base on a simple conition in the model (Model.RenewalDate < DateTime.Today), I need to pop up an alert box saying 'Membership renewal is overdue'. There's no process required beyond that. Just a simply popup information box, then continue as normal.

I know the java to create an alert, or I could use the jquery modal, not bothered, but I can't work out the code in the view (yeah, I know logic doesn't belong in a view, but this really is a view concern as there's no functionality required beyond the message).

Customize failure text for login control

Hi all,

I would like to show the failure text in a client-side alert box for login control in c#. Please help me if there is an easy way to convert it from vb.net to c#.net. Thanks a lot!

Protected Sub Login1_LoginError(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Login1.LoginError
'Display the failure message in a client-side alert box
ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(Me.GetType(), "LoginError", _
String.Format("alert('{0}');", Login1.FailureText.Replace("'", "\'")), True)

 End Sub

 Converted, but it doesn't work.

protected void Login1_LoginError(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
    //Display the failure message in a client-side alert box
    ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "LoginError", string.Format("alert('{0}');", Login1.FailureText.Replace("'", "\\'")), true);

Sharepoint alert error

Something strange is happening here. I have a list whose itens alerts are not sending, but iclusion or permissions alerts for the same list are ok.

The strange is: I search for a fix, then I restarted the Windons Sharepoint services Timer, reset the alerts by stsadm tool (stsadm -o setproperty). the timer job status is ok too. and I just receive this error for this list, ONLY for this list...the other list I can receive the e-mails normally.

Can someone help me?

Add Issue ID to an email alert?

Dear all,

(running WSS 3.0)

I'm desperately trying to add the Issue ID to the alert email that is sent when a list item is assigned to you. I have looked around and followed many tutorials online, however none of my changes have had any effect. So far I have done:

  1. Copied alerttemplates.xml to customalerttemplates.xml
  2. Edited customalerttemplates.xml
  3. Removed "ID" from <ImmediateNotificationExcludedFields>
  4. Ran stsadm -o updatealerttemplates -url http://server -filename "C:\Program files\common files\Microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\template\XML\customalerttemplates.xml"
  5. Ran iisrest
  6. Restarted Sharepoint Timer service

However even after doing that the email sent when an item is assigned is just the basic default! I've just tried to add the ID to the most simple section of the email (footer) however nothing seems to change the email alert.

I've followed guides such as:

Failure to reliably iterate through all elements of a COM Collection from C# .NET 4.0

In C#, .NET 4.0, I am making a call to a COM DLL to return a collection object. A foreach loop steps through each element of the collection. In the loop, a new .NET object is created for each element of the COM collection. The new object is added to a new .NET collection. This works fine in the development environment. In a deployed system, is works correctly most (about 90%) of the time.  However, sometimes (about 5% of the time) the foreach loop finds no items in the COM collection. Other times (also about 5%), it finds the first 2 or 3 or ... N items.  Somehow, the enumeration interface exposed by the COM object is failing. Here is a code snippet from the COM Object, which is called NameList.  NOTE that the VB6 cls file was opened in a text editor to show the class and method attributes. SQL 2008 Upgrade Replication failure

we upgraded to Sql 2008 standard edition last night from 2000 and our replication is now failing, cannot delete it or enter new ones.   I found one article saying the following stored procedures need to be run to upgrade the replcation:   exec sp_vupgrade_replication  exec sp_vupgrade_repl_metadata   however the first one throws and error and the second one seems not to exists.  does anyone have any insight into this. or how to delete the replications?   the error from the stored proc sp_vupgrade_replication  is :   Upgrading subscription settings and system objects in database [SoxAuditSystem].
