Why Are Certain Fields Always Checked When Editing View?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Whenever I edit any of the views of a particular SharePoint image library, the fields "File Size", "Name (linked to display items)", "Picture Size", and "Type" are always checked. This is a problem because if I go into the view to do something, such as change the view name, I'll unknowingly add these fields to my view unless I remember to manually uncheck them. It's a real annoyance and I'm hoping someone can enlighten me as to what the problem is. I don't seem to get this behaviour on any of my other image libraries.

List view - inline editing with read only fields

I'm new to sharepoint and using SP2010. I would like to use the inline editing feature of list view and at the same time to lock some of the fields. Is there a simpler way to achieve this like adding some field property using SP designer?

When editing a list item the fields are not blank.

This is a recent issue that I have in which I have a "Issue Tracking" List that maintains the workflow of contract renewals.

When an person goes to edit an existing list entry, the description field (standard) has the original text in the box. Prior to this the original - or any older text from a prior change was listed outside and just below the box - and non editable.

That's not the case anylonger.

Any thoughts?

Why do we need Common view fields in content query web part?

I am a bit confused on the purpose of "CommonViewFields" in CQWP. Almost all the write-ups on the web says that if we need a custom column to be available in the web part's XSL, we need to export the webpart file, add the columns to "CommonViewFields", import the web part to the site. However I noticed that, when I create a custom style template in my "ItemStyle.xsl" and simply add a line like <xsl:value-of select="@MyCustomColmn"/>, then "MyCustomColumn" appears automatically under "Fields to display" in the tool pane as a text box prompt, when I edit the web part and select my style template. I can then simply fill-in my column display name under "MyCustomColumn" and the web part works perfectly fine. (There is NO NEED to export the web part, edit the ".webpart" file and add "commonviewfields" etc..etc..etc) If this works, then what is the real need for "commonviewfields" ? Can someone shed light on this? I am totally confused.. (SharePoint 2010)

Print Form View and expanding text fields?

The form i'm editing has a small text field with a scroll bar that users enter quite a bit of data.  I'm wondering how to create a print view for the form that will expand that field to match the size of the content text. Does that make sense?

How to change the split view when editing an aspx file

I've been using SPD 2010 more and more over the past few weeks.  However, when there's a navigation bar on the left, toolbox on the right, ribbon above and split view of code and design in the middle, there's just not enough room on the screen - (I have 2 LCDs at 1280x1024).  I can spread the window accross both monitors but that's not much use unless, I can change the split between code and design from horizontal to vertical. Is this possible?  Help apprieciated. Cheers, Bill

Editing fields in Datasheet - Requiring Data that is NOT required

I am trying to mass update several metadata fields across all data in one library.  The library uses multiple templates, but the required columns are all the same.  I try to display just the required items, or even ALL the items in the datasheet.  Then when editing, I get the error message that some of the required data is not showing and I must add the required data.  I've triple checked my required fields in templates and the required fields in the view -- nothing appears to be missing.  Anyone have this happend and know a solution?  Editing each item one-by-one is going to be painful.

How to create a View to return all multiple child fields in one record?

I have an application where the users can define up to 5 extra fields for a particular table (e.g. tblMaster). The custom data is all held in one table (e.g. tblCustom) so there could be up to 5 records in tblCustom for each tblMaster record. In my application I build a select statement based on the number of custom fields so that I can get a single row of data for each tblMaster record (sample below). I am now adding new features to the application and I want to expose an SQL View to the users for a report writer that will achieve the same result but still cater for the variable number of custom fields. I realise this needs to use probably a RIGHT OUTER JOIN so that NULL is returned if there is no matching field but I can't work it out. If I had five separate files it would be easy as each one would be a RIGHT OUTER JOIN for each. I could build 6 views (e.g. with no custom fields, with one custom field, with two custom fields etc) but that is not very efficient. I don't particulaly want to restructure the database as there would be a lot of work and retesting.
Any help would be very welcome!

SP Workflow issue -> "The item is currently locked for editing. Waiting for item to be checked in o

I'm getting the above issue with my List Workflow.  I've created a workflow that assigns column data to a file when it is created.  This works some of the time; however, at random intervals the workflow will get stuck with "In Progress" status for the reason listed above.  The only way to clear this status is to delete the workflow and republish it.  This happens when copying a document via the UI, as well as when copying a document via UNC path.

If I terminate the workflow for the stuck item, when I go back to run it manually, the workflow isn't even listed.  Looking at the Visio history for the item, it seems to be getting stuck at different methods within the workflow; sometimes it gets stuck at a logic method, other times at a data manipulation method.  And other times it runs through fine without any issues.  This is all happening with the same file used as a control, so it's not like I'm introducing variable triggers to the methods in this workflow.

Editing the list and view of a content query web part

I have added a content query to my site which is querying a master contact list.

Once I have added the web part I then want to customised how it is displayed, i.e. first name, company name etc.

I am not getting a list menu in the ribbon when I check the box next to my content query web part heading.

Can anyone help.

WSS 3.0 Making fields read only when editing an entry

Is it possible to make specific fields in the EditForm Read Only so that once data has been entered it cannot be changed?

I have name and address information that once input I do not want to be changed however other fields in the form will need to be modified several times so if I can make some fields Read Only this will ensure the user modifying will only be able to change certain fields.

Some forums are suggesting Java Script however I am uncertain of whether this is the best or only option.

Thank you

Bulk editing issue - list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view

On a sharepoint page i click on 'Actions' tab then select 'Edit in Datasheet'  and i see the following error message

"The list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view for one or more of the following reasons: A datasheet component compatible with Windows SharePoint Services is not installed, your browser does not support ActiveX controls, or support for ActiveX controls is disabled. "

I am using XP professional, IE 6.02 to access the sharepoint site.

I was hoping that the hot fix KB938888 would fix that issue, but it did not. bulk editing is a nice feature that i would like to use but i have never been able to. The link to export data to Excel works fine.

if anyone has suggestions, thanks in advance
