Sharepoint not working after DCPROMO demotion

Hi all,

I have a problem on my sharepoint server. The server (until friday) was running as a domain controller. Im in the process of moving over to win server 08R2 so am demoting all windows 2003 servers on the domain. 

Once I'd demoted the Sharepoint server, the application stopped working and I get the following web page error each time I try to access it.

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. 

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config"

In sharepoint excel working fine in office 2007 but not in office 2010


Hi All,

we receive error  while trying to create excel sheet using the template we have uploaded on the SharePoint 2007.


This occurs on a machine that has Office 2010 installed. Earlier the machine had Office 2007 and everything was working fine.


Can you let me know why is problem is coming and how to resolve this.

Sharepoint 2007 Search Not Working


I am pulling my hair out guys. I have tried everything i could find from this site and all other sites but have not been successful. No matter what i do I cannot get the search to work. We are using SharePoint 2007 and the search had been fine but our security team performed some patches and now I’m stuck with a dead search feature.

Any help would be immensely appreciated.

Things I have tried but did not resolve the problem:

1. Check all accounts and passwords

2. Run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard

3. Reboot server reset IIS

4. Try to rebuild the index but that also fails

5. Check the Content Access Account

Office Sharepoint Server Search not working but Windows Server Search is.

I am having an annoying Issue with the Sharepoint 2007 Enterprise search functionality. I cannot get the Search Centre to work, the out of the box webparts crash the page except the Searchbox when the others are closed. The event viewer shows up numerous Errors (Office Sharepoint Server - EventID 7080) returns with and the same when trying to add a search related web part (e.g. core.results, federated etc). EventID 6398 - Timer is a regular as is 7080. Details below.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified).

Remote connections are connected, I am not 100% on the Instance name, (how would I go about checking this?)

Also I cannot access the link to SharedServices1 - Open Shared Services Admin site (not clickable), guess it's permissions but I seem to have full site permissions, I think I need SSP-Admin to make more edits to the Search, maybe this is related :s

Both Search Servers are runnig, I have tried everything I can think of to fix this and allow the Search Centre to work.

I am running Sharepoint 2007 on SQL Server 2008.

Report Builder in sharepoint is not working.



We are using below Topology in production
Topology is 3 servers:
Sever1: Sharepoint Form (wss3.0 no MOSS)
Sever2: Sql server 2008
Server3: Reporting Services 2008
Operating system on 3 servers: Windows server 2008.
Authentication mode: Form based authentication.

 SSRS reports are working success fully in SharePoint using above topology, The issue is through SharePoint library when i am trying to access report builder reports the client is installing, after enter the credentials it is not connecting to server and am getting the following error "Unable to connecting server at 'http://servername/Reports/Forms/AllItems.aspx'  please use different url

The above issue on production only.

But in local development box there is no problem (in my development box SharePoint t, database (sql) and reporting service sits on my box only)

SharePoint Designer: insert custom list not working anymore



Suddenly sharepoint designer decided today that it doesn't want to insert a custom list form anymore...
To be more specific, it doesn't work anymore in a site that uses the Microsoft budgeting and tracking template. In a website that uses an out of the box template, it still works.

It did work before, because I did it in other websites using the same template (it's broken there as well now).

Why oh why does SharePoint refuse to do this now?
I searched google and here on the forums, but all I could find was some issues after installing SP1, but we did that already long time ago and it was still working after that. I checked with our infrastructure guys and they didn't install new updates they say.

I also tried the solutions listed here: http://blogs.msdn.com/spdsupport/archive/2008/07/03/how-to-fix-custom-list-forms-will-not-insert-or-show-up-on-the-design-surface-of-sharepoint-designer.aspx
But they don't fix the problem.

So my problem is, I can go to Insert > SharePoint Controls > Custom List Form
I pick my list, content type and form type, I hit OK and... nothing happens.

Discussion board template of SharePoint 2007 not working properly


Use case 1 – Discussion board to suggest change to documents

 User adds a suggestion. The discussion board needs fields like module name, document name, section name and reason for a change etc.


 Problem 1 – When I try to add fields to the discussion board – When a user wants to post a reply to a suggestion, user screen shows the new item form and all fields instead of just a reply or comment field. Need help how can I ensue user only sees reply or comment field?


 Problem 2 – If I make these changes in the discussion board template through SharePoint designer 2007 and later if we plan to upgrade to SP 2010. Do I have to redo the changes I did on old discussion board or will upgrade take care of migration of the changes to new discussion board template available with SP 2010?

SharePoint 2007 Expiration Policy Not working : Access denied for the site


I have a SharePoint 2007 List with Expiration Enabled in Information and Policy Management. I have a datatime column ExpiryDate which i used in Expiration. On Expiration I have chose to delete the item. Through Central Admin I run the expiration by clicking "Process Expired Items now" button. I got the following error in the Windows event viewer.

Expiration Service for site http://md-rmanimaran failed.

Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

EventID: 5016

Category: Information Policy Management 

Where I need to specify the login details to get rid of this error? Anybody Please help..




Anyone got the SharePoint List Adapter working with SQL 2005?

Like the authors of some other similar posts, I cannot see the SharePoint list dataflow source and destination options after installing SharePointListAdaptersSetupForSqlServer2005.msi from codeplex.  The options do not appear in the SSIS Data Flow items tab within the "Choose Toolbox Items".  Anyone manage to figure this out? If i install it on my dev laptop - I get these options and can add them to my toolbox - however I have both SQL Server 2005 and 2008 on this machine.   On my 64 bit server however I only have SQL 2005 and nothing! I would love to use this as the last time i wrote a web service extraction is was a very unpleasant few days of my life. Ritchie

Microsoft Word hyperlinks not working consistently in Sharepoint

I'm running into an issue with some Word hyperlinks.  I have a Word document (with embedded hyperlinks) uploaded to a document library.  If I go into the library and click on the document, the hyperlinks work as intended (which is to say that the embedded hyperlinks open up a .pdf in a NEW window). However, on my home page, I have a link to the Word document directly (not to the library, to the actual file).  If I use this link, then the embedded hyperlinks open the .pdf in the SAME window. Part of the issue seems to be that when I open the document from within the library, it opens it with what I'll call a Word emulator whereas if I follow the link from the home page, it opens it with a regular web browser.  Is there a way to get the link from the home page to also use this emulator?  Alternatively, are there any other solutions?  I really need to be able to use the home page link method.

SharePoint Search not working on one site collection

I am running into some weird behavior with how SharePoint is crawling site/list data.  Let's say our main intranet site is http://www.intranet.com: Most of our older sites are setup with URLs like http://www.intranet.com/sites/sitename .  Crawling is working fine on these sites and I can execute a search and find all of the results I would expect.  At some point recently (before I joined this firm), they made a decision that all new sites would have the URL http://www.intranet.com/SiteDirectory/sitename .  Any sites which fall into this bucket are not being crawled, it would seem. If I check Central Adman>Shared Services>Search Administration, I can see that the first content source being crawled is http://www.intranet.com so I would imagine this crawl should pick up anything under /SiteDirectory/ but it is not.  I also checked the Crawl Settings on this page and it is set to "Crawl everything under the hostname for each start address".  Lastly, I see that there were only 21 errors in the last full crawl but none of these errors apply to a /SiteDirectory/ site. In short, what could be causing the crawl to apparently skip all of the sites within /SiteDirectory/ and how can this best be fixed?

When Upgraded a site from Wss 3.0 to Sharepoint foundation 2010, subsites are not working

HI ALL, I recently migrated an old Sharepoint site from WSS 3.0 to Sharepoint foundation 2010. There were no problems during the upgrade and the stsadm command displayed the message that upgrade completed successfully. However when I am accessing the sub-sites from outside the server, I am able to see the content, but when I go to Site Settings, I get an error "File not found". Also the Views for the sub-sites are not working. However on accessing the sub-sites from the Server everything is working fine. Can anyone please help me?  

SharePoint List Source and Destination BIDS adapters not working for our sharepoint instance

It was with great anticipation I installed the SharePoint List Source and Destination BIDS adapters (from CodePlex, http://sqlsrvintegrationsrv.codeplex.com/releases/view/17652). Unfortunately, the adapters are not working for our MOSS sharepoint instance.  We're a DOD (department of defense) site, so the level of security may be higher than normal and may be affecting the adapters. The error message was lengthy and I couldn't copy it and paste here.  I did screen shots and put the complete error message at http://www.christianbahnsen.com/sharepoint_source_error_message.pdf If I can get this to work I think it would be very useful.  I'd played around with KPI Lists, but one cannot create an Indicator directly from SQL Server 2008 (cf. my related thread at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepointbi/thread/bcc95f65-012e-4b8a-8850-b03fb0f16b0f).  I was hoping that these adapters would provide a work-around by populating sharepoint lists that could be the source for KPI Indicators. SharePoint My Site is not Working anymore

Dear All, I do not know what happened but currently our SharePoint MySite keeps prompting for domain account/password. I tried to key-in my user/password but it doesn't work it just keep prompting. This is the history: Last time we have the My Site up and running but we disabled it due to low volume of usage. After enabling the My Site again, the site is not running anymore. It keeps prompting the domain username/password and will not re-create the site again. (because we have deleted the users' site) Please advise. Thank you.   Best Regards,   Jimmy
