Change Farm Account?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello,

SharePoint 2010, I am trying to change the Farm Account. I made the change to a new farm account under Central Admin > Security > Configure Service Accounts. The change seems to have gone through, however, when I delete the old user account that was being used for the Farm Account and I try to backup sharepoint it fails. If I re-create the old farm account in Active Directory (don't change anything in Central Admin) I can backup again. The specific error I get from STSADM is "The specified user or domain group cannot be found". I'm assuming that the old Farm Account still have something it's holding onto in SharePoint 2010 that the new farm account should have and doesn't.

Any help?

Failed to change Farm Account in Sharepoint 2010 server, now Central Administration is not accessibl

Hello, I have a problem, that I no longer can access Central Administration Website, only the Sharepoint itself. I was running installation of Sharepoint 2010 Server with administrative account ImTheAdmin, who is a Domain Admin in the domain on one of the Windows 2008 R2 member servers. Besides that, I made ImTheAdmin the primary administrator of the Sharepoint. ImTheAdmin became the only user of this Sharepoint 2010 server after installation.  I installed everything on one box with default installation settings. I used builtin SQL server, not Standard or Enterprise. What then happened is: Using ImTheAdmin account, I opened Central Administration Website, and it said, that I need to change the Farm Account, for the account for Farm was the default one (I think it was network service). So I created a regular domain user MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount. The account name was too long to be as a Windows 2000 name, so it showed there without last 't', e.g. MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccoun. I thought, Windows 2000 is long gone, so I didn't pay much attention, I think everywhere the account SID is important. I don't know if that is the real problem with my failure later, but it might be one of the reasons. I put MYDOMAIN\SharepointFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pre

Change the Timer Service Account

I did an install with Sharepoint 2010 RTM and have it working well but when I checked the Monitoring - Review Problems and solutions it states a security concern that the Farm Account should not be used for other services.  At this stage I have to change out the timer service since it is using the farm account.  But I don't see the timer service in the "Security - Manage service Accounts" location.  I created a timer account with no problems but how does one go about changing the timer service to use this account?  I know I can go to services and change it there but I am wondering if there is a need to do this within Sharepoint?  Am I missing a credential management piece that did not show up in the list of services? Any help would be appreciated Workerbee09  By the way, The problem points to a failing service SPTimerService (SPTimerV4) but its started and working cause I can see services being started and history of the service where it was successfull.

Central Administration no longer accessible by any account after changing Farm Account in SharePoint

Problems with Farm Account magically losing permissions to certain things

I don't know what's going on, but this has now happened two times in a row during my rebuild from TP to Beta (completely new build from the OS up).  I'm using the same service account (domain account) as my setup and farm account.  While logged in with my farm account, I install the SP2010 pre-reqs, then the bits, then give it dbcreator and securityadmin roles in SQL, then run the SPT wizard.  Within the wizard, I specify the same account as my farm account, and all works fine and dandy.  After it's done, I'm able to get into Central Admin with this same account and see/do everything. After working with things a while and following the MS instructions for getting the User Profile SA working, if I reboot or logout/login, then I suddenly don't have access to some very important things, such as:- System Settings > Manage Services on Server.  It just disappears completely- Security > Configure Service Accounts.  This does not disappear, but clicking on it causes a prompt saying "Error:Access Denied."  Previously, I was able to go in here and set my service accounts for things like search, user code service, etc (I set them to the proper service accounts)- Configuration Wizards > Launch Configuration Wizard.  I used this multiple times when getting my farm setup, but now it's gone.I've gone so far as to make my farm account all of these things:- Member of B

Unable to change the Service account??

Followed this guide: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832770 I have setup my account SPadmin to have access to my SQL DB i went into IIS and attempted to change it there for my Default sharepoint site in the applications pool page > Properties>Identity Nada, i changed it his apply reset IIS and back to my old account(very frustrating) so further reading showed attempting to change it via Central administration.   Went there and chose Operations>Service accounts chose my webservice,Application pool and configurable and setup my SPadmin, reset IIS and still no change.   Thoughts? i feel like there is  some stupid step i'm missing because it will not change regardless.   Thanks Steve K

How to change the System Account into Domain Administrator account in Sharepoint?

I'm attaching the captured image from the Central Admin of our Sharepoint Server. (http://www.experts-exchange.com/images/346242/Central-Admin.jpg) As you can see from the Central Admin image, the user account shown is "System Account", in whereas I logged in as our Domain Administrator. Then when you check it's info from My Settings, the details from the captured image System Account Info was shown. ( http://www.experts-exchange.com/images/346243/System-Account-Info.jpg) How can I change it as be DOMAIN\Administrator & not SHAREPOINT\system or System Account? Please advise...

How to change the login name for the dbo account?

not able to create a new web application with farm account

Hi

I installed sharepoint 2010 on windows 2008 R2 machine. I used the farm account to configure the farm as per the documentation. When i logged in to the central admin application using farm account, "New" button (to create a new web application) is disabled under "Manage Web applications".  farm account is not added to the administrator group of sharepoint server.

The "New" buttons gets enabled if i run "Internet explorer" as administrator. Please advise what could be the solution to fix this.

Farm account has a MySite - should it be deleted?

All,

While configuring Form Based User My Sites I discovered that the System and farm accounts have My Sites (in the Shared Service Provider).

This sounds like a bad practice and I should delete these My Sites. I did a few searches on the Web and didn't find any data about this...

Should I delete these My Sites or just leave them alone?

Thanks,

Jim

Is there PowerShell command to change service application account?

I associated User Profile Synchronization Service with managed account "svcebrd" in CA. For some reason this created duplicated managed account. Now there are two "svcebrd" under Configure Managed Account. If I try do delete one of the accounts in CA I get "key has already been added in dictionary". Running Remove-SPManagedAccount fails with "The account Dev\svcebrd is still being used by ... User Profile Syncronization Service".

Does anybody know powershell command to changed service application account?

Change Farm ID?

We finally rebuilt our SharePoint environment on a new server. Was quite easy and un-problematic. The only issue we have is with “Ontolica”. First, the production license didn’t come over. I resolved that by tapping into the database myself and retrieve the binary version of the file. BUT, the license is tight to the farm ID. Since I created a brand new installion and farm, our new farm id is different than the old one.

I called “SurfRay” and they said that they wouldn’t/couldn’t L issue me a new license. Is there any way for me to change the farm ID of the new farm to the farm ID of the old farm?

Change Service Account for User Profile Service application

Hi,

I change service account for user profile service application from spfarm to spservice . and then FIM Synchronization Service is stopped and i found this error in event viewer.

"The server encryption keys could not be accessed.

User Action

Verify that the service account has permissions to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Forefront Identity Manager\2010\Synchronization Service

If the problem persists, run setup and restore the encryption keys from backup."

But i tried to set the permission for spservice in registry. Still can't start the FIM Synchronization Service and also the log on as "Account" is changed to spservice .

When I change to spfarm for User Profile Service Application, it is working fine.

Please advise me that what do i need to configure for spservice ?

Thanks.
