Incoming email settings on Application Template: Help Desk

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I've installed the Help Desk application template and created a new
site based on it.  All looks great except that I can't figure out how
to set the site to receive incoming emails which would in turn create
a new service request.  Hopefully it's there and I'm just not seeing

TIA for your help.

Incoming Email Issue

I just installed Windows 7.  Often I get a notice indicating an incoming Email cannot be opened on my system.  I know some are safe since they include Microsoft, windows, friends, etc.  I must download each and add to my safe list.   Does anyone have a solution?

SharePoint and "Help Desk" template confusion

Okay; so I've read the three posts I found on this forum about the SharePoint Services "Help Desk" administrative template. I've scoured the internet for nuggets of wisdom; all-in-all, I've come to the conclusion that there is hardly ANY documentation for this template! :) So please excuse me if this question is considerd "noobish-ish" by some--I just a looking for a fresh set of brain cells to bounce my question off of. The template, itself, seems pretty bare bones and to the point, as far as ticketing issues. But how in the site settings do I specify a Service Request, when a domain user clicks on the "Create a Service Request " link, to go to a specific help desk email account on our Active Directory network? I see "Create a Service Request," "Service request List," "Service Request Task List;" it's getting a little confusing, as I don't use the "portal" end of SP, as much as I administrate our server. Where should I start, one and all?? ANY help will be greatly appreciated; thank you!

Navigation settings not applied when site created from template?

Hi, I created a customized site on MOSS and disabled Quick Launch and enabled Tree View on it. But when I create new site from this template it has Quick Launch enabled and Tree View disabled. I downloaded the STP file and looked inside and in the details <Details> ... <EnableTreeView>1</EnableTreeView> <EnableQuickLaunch>0</EnableQuickLaunch> ... </Details> Does anyone have a clue why it does not work correctly? Does this work for you correctly?

The Best Place to store Settings for Web Application.

I want to create an Application Setting or Control Value for "Application Run Mode", which will indicate if the application is in Testing Mode or Live Mode. So I have created this Enum Type: Public Enum AppRunModeType Live Testing End Enum and, this will be used inside the the Web Application to determine if the application run mode, and hide/show some UI Controls accordingly. This Setting "Application Run Mode" is not a User Setting, it is a setting to be controlled by the developer who is deploying the application. Where is the best place to store this value ? I am thinking there are 2 places: 1. In web.config "appSettings" secting, 2. Or in Project Properties Page/Settings Section. If I choose to store it in web.config, then, I will not be able to have Strong Type Access to the value like the Enum type, and I have to convert from Enum Type to String and vise versa. If I choose to store it in Project Properties Page/Settings Section, then I cannot do that, becuase my Web Application is not a Porject and I cannot find this page there, or I will have to convert the Web Application to a Web Application Porject, and this is a Long Story. Also, How I can access My.Settings object from the Web Application ? Appreciate if some one could point me to the right direction and the best way to hanlde such requirement.

Configure incoming e-mail settings - Error File Not Found?

Hello I am trying to setup a test server for SharePoint 2010 and I have followed the MS instructions for deploying a single SharePoint 2010 server with SQL server. I have had no problems or errors during the setup; however now going through the recomended post installation task of configuring incoming email settings I am getting an error message. I have added the SMTP service to the server, configured it in IIS then gone back to the SharePoint central administration page. When I click Configure incoming e-mail settings under System Settings I get the following error message. Error File Not Found. Correlation ID: cc08f335-6762-4c70-a690-ecfd012ec3c2 I have no idea what is causing this so have no way to resolve it, any help would be really appreciated.   Thanks

Site FAQ: Email Notification Settings

There are several settings that come into play with email notifications coming from the ASP.NET forums:Edit Profile (http://forums.asp.net/user/EditProfile.aspx)1. Receive Emails: [ ] Yes  [ ] No - This is the master email switch. Setting this to [ ] No will prevent ALL forums-related emails from being sent to you, including password reset emails (if you find yourself in that situation, please use the site's Contact form to request password reset assistance).  Setting this back to [ ] Yes will allow emails to once again be sent to you.  This setting could be handy if you will be away from the ASP.NET Forums for a while and are not interested in receiving emails from the site while you are away.2. Receive rich (HTML) emails [ ] Yes [ ] No - This affects only the format in which emails are sent.  It has no bearing on whether or not emails are sent.  If [ ] No is chosen, the email will be sent in plain text.3. Enable Email Notifications of forum/thread subscriptions and replies to my posts. [ ] Yes  [ ] No - This is the default value of thread subscriptions. This value is checked only at the time of your first post to a thread, and the thread subscription is set to this value. Changing this value has no effect on any existing thread subscriptions. To discontinue (or start) receiving email notifications for a particular thread, see #5 below.&n

Rooms and Equipment Reservations Application template using WSS 3.0 issue.

I have set up a conference room reservations site using the RER template, I have questions...The template functions pretty much as I want out of the box, except for two items.1.)  Any User can delete any other user's reservation.2.)  Any User can delete a resource.Does anyone know of a way to resolve these issues?  All users need contribute permissions to use the site.

SharePoint 3.0 document libary imcoming email settings

I am having problems with a SharePoint site. I was able to create incoming emails on the site for a document library. The server was on an SAN solution and it got corrupted. The site was restored. I am able to create incoming email settings on the central admin page. The problem is when I go into the site I cannot create incoming email settings. The ones that were created before the server crashed works fiine. I cannot create any new ones. The question that I have is this a permission issue for the site ?

Custom Email Alert template creating links to DispForm.aspx

I have a requirement to customise the alert template for a standard blog post list. To do this I: 1. Created a copy of alertstemplate.xml 2. Copied the genericList alert template node and customised 3. Registered the new template file against the site collection, iisreset and finally assigned the new Alert template to the list, when alerts are created the custom template is emailed. The problem now arises that the 'View <Post Title>' in the toolbar section now creates a hyperlink to http..../Lists/Posts/Dispform.aspx?ID=xx rather than post.aspx. I have checked using sharepoint designer that the list supporting files has the correct display item form of Lists/Posts/Post.aspx. Additionally if I reset the alert template for the list back to use the Generic list template the same problem still occurs so this leads me to believe it is not the customisations that are the problem. Code used to assign the alert template to the Posts list: var ats = new SPAlertTemplateCollection((SPWebService) site.WebApplication.Parent); var newTemplate = ats[alertName]; if (newTemplate == null) { // We did not find the specified Template. throw new Exception("Failed to find template SPAlertTemplateType.NewsPost in the template collection."); } list.AlertTemplate = newTemplate; list.Update(); Any assistance will be most welcome, thanks in advance. Problem setting up approve/reject settings in Absence Request and Vacation Management Template

Hi I have recently installed and set up the absence request and vacation management template in SharePoint Services 3.0 and all seems to be going reasonably well apart from one hitch. I have edited the setup workflow so that manager is sent an email on request, employee is sent an email on approval/rejection and payroll are sent an email on approval for their records. However, even though the Personal Vacation option in the Absence Type list is set to Yes for Approval Required, the workflow is automatically sending out the email to say their annual leave has been approved as soon as they request it. Has anyone come across this before or know where I may be going wrong? Thanks for any help you can give. Jo
