using aspnet_regiis.exe to encrypt identity in location section

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Im using a fixed identity in web.config for some AD/exchange user creation and manipulation.

Everything is working well so no problems there but i wanted to encrypt the fixed username/password that im using.

Since i only want the impersonation to occur on 1 file in my subdirectory im using a location section in the web.config.

When i use aspnet_regiis -pef i can only encrypt the system.web/identity and not the location/system.web/identity.

Im not sure how the system notation works? is it like an xpath where by i could do something like location[@path='mypage.aspx']/system.web/identity

heres my web.config format...

Pass ASP.NET membership identity object across domain?

I am trying to figure a way to SSO with ASP.NET membership and role model.

I can implement custom membership provider which consume web services hosting on a server.

With encryption of data. No problem.

But my question is, If I sign on a website with my provider, got my identity object on that application,

could I pass it to another website on another domain which use the same provider and by doing so, do not need to login again?

If this is possible, I am going to implement this solution. Please tell me what's your take on this.

An endpoint configuration section for contract 'xxx' could not be loaded because more than one end

I'm trying to test calling a webservice, I've found several free ones on http://webserviceshare.com, but none of them work for me.  Some of them give example calling code in C# which I've translated to VB.NET, they're typically just two to four lines, I don't think I've translated them incorrectly.

On that I've tried is US Zip Validator.  I added a Service Reference to http://www.webservicemart.com/uszip.asmx?WSDL, called ZipService.

I then call it like so:

            Dim myZipService As ZipService.USZipSoapClient = New ZipService.USZipSoapClient()
            Dim myCity As String = myZipService.ValidateZip("27707")

I get the following error on the first line of code:

"An endpoint configuration section for contract 'ZipService.USZipSoap' could not be loaded because more than one endpoint configuration for that contract was found. Please indicate the preferred endpoint configuration section by name."

Web deployment project - web.config section replacement does not add remove tag

I have a web application that is actually installed as a component of a third party site.  In some configurations, I need to remove certain connection strings and re-add them.  I'm replacing this web.config section with a xml file that includes the following:

      <remove name="MyOverridenConnection"/>
      <add connectionString="Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=MyDb;Data Source=MyServer" name="MyOverridenConnection"

For some reason the remove tag is left out during the substitution and I end up with the following in the installed config:

      <add connectionString="Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=MyDb;Data Source=MyServer" name="MyOverridenConnection"

Is there any way to issue removes in replaced sec

Federated Identity: Passive Authentication for ASP.NET with WIF

The goal of federated security is to provide a mechanism for establishing trust relationships between domains. Platform tools like Windows Identity Foundation (WIF) make it much easier to support this type of identity federation. We show you how.

AD FS 2.0 in Identity Solutions: Using Active Directory Federation Services 2.0 in Identity Solution

This article explains how you can use Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) 2.0 to claims-enable Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) services and browser-based applications. The focus is on the token issuance functionality in AD FS 2.0. You'll find out how to use AD FS 2.0 as an identity provider; set up an AD FS 2.0 security token service (STS) to interact with WCF; federate AD FS 2.0 with your custom STS or another AD FS 2.0; enable Web single sign-on and federation with WS-Federation and SAML 2.0 protocols; and externalize authentication logic through Visual Studio. You'll come away appreciating how AD FS 2.0 and Windows Identity Foundation make programming identity solutions in Windows less of a chore.

Encrypt It: Keep Your Data Secure with the New Advanced Encryption Standard

The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is a National Institute of Standards and Technology specification for the encryption of electronic data. It is expected to become the accepted means of encrypting digital information, including financial, telecommunications, and government data. This article presents an overview of AES and explains the algorithms it uses. Included is a complete C# implementation and examples of encrypting .NET data. After reading this article you will be able to encrypt data using AES, test AES-based software, and use AES encryption in your systems.

Is it possible to write the same encrypt and decrypt method that in MembershipProvider

Hi, I am very confused about encrypting and decrypting password.

What I did is that, I am using a class that extends SqlMembershipProvider, and when I need to encrypt a password, just called base.EncryptPassword() method to do so.

But still, I did not get to know how things are done here, and I really would like to know its codes.

Can anyone provide the code for me please?

Gridview, guid ID, and Location

Presently I have a gridview, I'm in the process of populating the gridview. One colunm "Location" is displayed as the guid ID.  I need for that colunm to be displayed as the location. Here some of the code to display the grid.

myObject orgs = new myObject();
grid.DataSource = orgs;

orgs gets a list of organizations (locations) for the grid. How can I replace the guid ID with it location. Yes the guid ID and location are in a table.

Infopath and Section 508 Accessibility

Hey, guys! I'm building a web site for a Section 508 workgroup, and I need the site to be 100% accessible (including the administration module I'm making for the team. We're using SharePoint MOSS 2007 and I recommended using infopath to enter data into the site's database (and also to populate downloadable Microsoft Word documents). The customer claimed that InfoPath is not Section 508 compliant, which seemed odd to me because the forms can be modified to anything you want them to be (including 508 compliant).

I even found this guide to making InfoPath accessible:

I'm curious if there are any caveats to making accessible forms in Infopath, or if the information I've gathered is incorrect.
