User IsInRole information not being persisted

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hello, I have an ASP.NET webforms website that uses the .NET MySql connector and MySql as a back-end. I'm using role-based authentication to protect certain areas of my site. The problem is that the user's role information is not being persisted after I move my site to the server (works fine on my local development machine). What is happening is that I can login using the logincontrol which directs me to the admin page after authenticating the user. At this point User.IsInRole("admin") is true.  But when I click one of the links to go to a different area of the admin section User.IsInRole("admin") is false. Below are the relevant sections of my code:

Web.config --------------------------------------------------

<membership defaultProvider="MySqlMembershipProvider" userIsOnlineTimeWindow="15">
				<remove name="MySQLMembershipProvider"/>
				<add name="MySQLMembershipProvider" type="MySql.Web.Security.MySQLMembershipProvider, MySql.Web, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d" connectionStringName="LocalMySqlServer" enablePasswordRetrieval="false" enablePasswordReset="true" requiresQuestionAndAnswer="false" applicationName="/" req

Collecting extra information using Create User Wizard

 I am trying to collect extra information about a user when the user account is created using the Create User Wizard. This info will be stored in a new table in the standard ASP membership SQL database. I have read several books and loads of online tutorials on the subject and they all take different approaches and seem to make the process hard work. Is there any reason why I can't add an SQL datasource and a number of textboxes  to the wizard step, 'connect' the values from the textboxes to the Insert Parameters and then put an Insert Statement in a suitable event handler to cause the insert? If this is possible what would be the best (ie simplest) way to 'connect' the textboxes to the insert parameters?   Regards Andy

User information list properties SP Foundation 2010

When trying to view properties of user information list in SPD 2010, I get the following error "SharePoint designer cannot display the content of this view (...)" I am logged in as administrator for both farm and site. I can view content of the list in a browser, but I cannot access the list as a lookup column. It works with WSS 3/SPD 2007 on another server.

What is the best way to store user specific information

Hello All,

What is the best way to keep track of user specific information?

I want to show information in querys etc based upon specific properties, for instance a users belongs to a dealer, and that dealer has an ID.

So is it a good way to store that dealer ID in a session variable or should I consider a other option to use this on multiple pages.

Does anyone have good thoughts about this?

Update all Properties in the User Information List after restoring a site collection to a new domain

hi All

I moved a site collection (content db) from one domain to another. After the site collection was restored i ran the stsadm -o migrateuser -oldlogin -newlogin. The result was that the login id of the user in the source domain was replaced with the login in the destination domain.

However the rest of the properties in the User Information List (paricularly interested in the Email) was not updated.

How can i get all the properties in the User Information List with values in the new domain

Thanks in Advance

Regarding Editing the user profile Information in MOSS

Hi All,

            I have very interesting situation over here and unable to understand what is going on behind the scene. There are two senarios as follows

1) Production server that host the site restored from old WSS on the MOSS---- when i go to the Peoples and Group and click on the user name and then click on the edit profile I am presented with the from where i can edit the profile information but according to the theory this should not happen if MY Site is Enabled

2) Production server that host the fresh site on MOSS--- when i go to the Peoples and Group and click on the user name and then on the edit profile I am presented with the page that contains the domain name and user name means i cannot edit the profile as expected according to theory.

Both the server are two different WFE but has the same databse server. Please help me to solve this mistry.

Share one exe user information with other exe

I am using VS2005 and SQL Server2000

To make my application as role base like when a person will select a group then only pre defined menus will active. I have made table and put information in table accordingly. But I have two exe and When I entered to the HRIS only then I have to put ID/password/Group information

Then in the HRIS when I click on Duty Roster Management Menu then run/open the DutryRoster.exe

Now how can I setup Duty Roster menus Active/Inactive based on the user group  which I was selected when I entered to the HRIS.

if it is not clear then When I want to run Duty roster exe then it will collect user group information from HRIS exe and set its menus active inactive accordingly.

I have made grouptable and stored form name with active inactive information in database.

Please help me out in this regard

Unable to edit user information

I have a standalone installation of SharePoint 2010. I've created users as local accounts, not using AD. When users try to edit their information to add email addresses etc for alerts the fields are not visible.

The path is my settings>edit item>edit personal settings

The only options shown are attach file, save and cancel. All other tool bar functions are disabled.

Is this because I've not used AD? I've taken a look at the event logs but there is nothing of ay value here.

Thanks for any advice or pointers

search current logged in user's information in sharepoin list

hi guys,

in order to prepopulate some user information, i used query to search the sharepoint list. my question is how to search loggin user's info in the list.

i used following testing query function. it works fine. however, it can only search specific text, cannot be changed according different user.

SPList IsExist;
                    IsExist = SPContext.Current.Web.Lists["somelist"];
                    SPQuery query = new SPQuery();
                    query.Query = @"
                                    <FieldRef Name='First_x0020_Name'/>
                                    <Value Type='Text'>XXX</Value>
                                    <FieldRef Name='Last_x0020_Name'/>
                                    <Value Type='Text'>XXX</Value>
                    SPListItemCollection found = IsExist.GetItems(query);

How to get information of the authenticated user

Logout doesn't work on all pages, and also User.IsInRole, UrlRewrting ?

I can't logout from my main page and also from the other pages when I'm using UrlRewriting rule without file extension. If I open the page with .aspx at the end, logout process working just fine. For example:

www.mydomain.com => logout impossible

www.mydomain.com/contakt => logout impossible

www.mydomain.com/contakt.aspx => logout working fine

Also when I log into system, the User.IsInRole method doesn't work for all pages used in application. It's working properly for the pages placed in main folder, but it's not working for the page placed in /folder/subfolder/somepage.aspx . Url showing in browser for this page is www.mydomain.com/somepage . How can I check If user is in role for that page ? It's always return false.

Does anybody got this problem ? How to solve it ? Please share any knowledge..
