How to access Client hard drive?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I am working on a web application where I want to keep all the user specific data at client side.

My user will select a location at client side through settings page where he/she wants to save the data.

Is there a way I can do this?

Return of the Rich Client: Code Access Security and Distribution Features in .NET Enhance Client-Sid

Rich clients employ many of the features and conveniences of the operating system they run on, and the list of these features has been growing since the dawn of the PC. But as apps have migrated to the Web, the trend towards increasing client-side functionality has ground to a virtual halt. There are several reasons for this; chief among them are security and deployment problems. But that's all about to change. With the .NET Framework, you can participate in building the distributable rich client of the future. In this article, the author enumerates the pertinent features of .NET that will allow you to build safe, easily deployable controls. The features discussed include managed code, code access security, versioning control, Windows Forms classes, and isolation.

SQL and Outlook: Enable Database Access and Updates Through Exchange and Any E-mail Client

Using Microsoft technologies, you can insert, edit, query, and delete database entries using any e-mail client such as Hotmail, Outlook, Yahoo, or even WAP phone. While e-mail is certainly a powerful and widely used tool, it is usually not integrated with an application for performing any tasks other than sending reminders. The application scenario described here, an e-mail-based SQL update program, uses a simple data model; however, this solution will apply to any data model that you are working with. It will also eliminate the need for complex n-tier Internet applications and serves as a low maintenance solution for providing data access.

Sharepoint site client access denied

I have an sharepoint application which was working fine.

I encountered a license expired message in sql server enterprise evaluation 2008 version after which i changed the date to 2 months earlier date, I have also changed HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\100\ConfigurationState to 3 after which sql server started working but the issue is that the clients are unable to access the sharepoint site completely. On providing the url the web site requests for logon information and then access is denied. The same url with the same authentication credentials is accessible from the server and the entire application works fine from the server.

From the  client the below error page appears.

Why does .NET Framework require 841 MB hard drive space on C:

Just downloaded .NET Framework 4 from Microsoft website. Installation says it requires 841 MB space on my C: drive. Why so much? I am presuming that this is in addition to the space for the other versions of .net installed. This is not going to be installed without a very good reason for this much space required. Can anybody enlighten me on this? Any way to lighten the space requirement load?

SQL Server allowing access with NATIVE CLIENT Protocols are disabled.

Why ?Also I stopped the SQL Server Services and restarted it again. Then also the system is allowing me to connect with all the client protocol disabled.

SSRS Client Access

Hi, I have evaluating SSRS, and somehow I am quite confused. Please tell me if I am wrong in the basic understanding. To create a new report by the user, the client has to be installed with the Report Builder software, and must have access to the database server directly? Is there no thin client, say a web page available to allow the users to create a report (choosing of fields) like that of the Report Builder Software? Please help to answer this fundamental questions. Thank you.

Migration of DSN use for SQL Server access from Windows SP-3 clients to Windows 7 64 bit client

We have numerous apps which use a named DSN using SQLSRV32.dll for an ODBC connection from our Windows XP-Pro SP3 32 bit machines client access to remote windows 2003 based SQL servers (mix of 2005 and 2008).  On migrating to Windows 7, this dll will not allow the apps to use the newly constructed DSN (using SQLSRV32.dll with ODBC), even though a test connection is sucessful (abbeit much slower than seen on the XP-Pro machines).  What must I use on the Windows 7 64 bit machine to allow a DSN to be used by the migrated apps?  - I have descerned through Google that WDAC is now the tool to use, but I am cluless how to use it. - The expectations from the app on the Windows XP-Pro and on the Windows 7 64 bit machines is to use a DSN to connect to SQL servers on Windows 2003. I would appreciate any advice, and thanks!

SQL Server 2005 Express - Does it require a Client Access License (CAL)

Do you need a Client Access License (CAL) for each device that will connect to a SQL Server 2005 Express edition database?

Access database using client credentials

I have created a small wcf project that comprises the following  TZ_PI_Interface_WCF - This is a WCF service hosted in IIS  TZ_PI_Interface_Client - This is a test client The service is running in as much that my client communicates with it and executes code in the service. My client app executes the GetProcessData_GetSearch_Client_Detail of my service.  This method should go off to a database and return some data to the client. For the purposes of this test I am catching exceptions in the GetProcessData_GetSearch_Client_Detail method and returnind the error message as a piece of data. When the GetProcessData_GetSearch_Client_Detail is executed, a connection should be made the a database and data should be returned to the client The results I get depend on my connection string. These are the scenarios I am trying along with the results of executing GetProcessData_GetSearch_Client_Detail 1) Local DB Test using Integrated Security  Connection Error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'N075650\ASPNET' 2) Local DB Test using SQL Login  Data correctly returned 3) Remote DB using Integrated Security  Connection Error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user '(null)' 4) Remote DB using SQL Login  Data correctly returned In the live environment I will have the service hosted on an IIS server (6.0) and the

MS Access ADP projects need to be able to use SQL Native Client

Microsoft, PLEASE update the Access ADP platform to be able to connect to SQL Server 2005 using the SQL Native Client.  ADP is a great in-house development platform, but MS seems to have decided to stop supporting it.The problem is, the sql ole db driver that the ADP projects use, cause problems when querying complicated views or stored procedures on SQL Server 2005.  Queries that worked great under SQL Server 2000, time out under 2005.  When run directly on the server, there is no problem.  When they are run from the ADP file, the execution plan of the query is totally messed up.  I watched what SQL Server 2005 does with tracing, it's running certain segments of the query over and over.If I run that same query in Access, through an ADO connection, where I specify the Native Client as the provider, then I don't have that problem, which proves that the problem is the old SQL OLE DB driver. So we need the project's default connection needs to be work properly with SQL Server 2005.

Errors in the back-end database access module. The managed provider 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client' cou

Hi. I have connected my SSAS in SQL server 2008 to an Oracle database.  I have installed the Oracle ODAC to enable me to set up the Data Source, the Data Source View and the Cube.  Now everything was going fine.  I could connect to the Oracle Database and I could see my tables and pull them into the DSV. But.  When I come to process the Cube it throws these errors.  Why all of a sudden do the connection objects stop working? Errors in the back-end database access module. The managed provider 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client' could not be instantiated. Errors in the high-level relational engine. A connection could not be made to the data source with the DataSourceID of 'DBIBGEORAclients', Name of 'DBIBGEORAclients'. Can anyone help here please? Thanks, David.

Create List Sharepoint Client Object Model Access Denied

I am trying to create a silverlight application by making use of the SharePoint 2010 Client Object Model using the following code:

private void CreateList(object sender, ClientRequestFailedEventArgs e)
  ClientContext ctx = new ClientContext("http://server");
  ListCreationInformation lc = new ListCreationInformation();
  lc.Title = "FlexiTime";
  lc.Description = "";
  lc.TemplateType = (int)ListTemplateType.GenericList;
  List newList = ctx.Web.Lists.Add(lc);
  System.Threading.ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(new WaitCallback(CreateListCallback), ctx);

private void CreateListCallback(object s)
  var context = (ClientContext)s;

The error I receive is as follows:
