How can you use javascript to call a SliderExtender (textbox) to update its value?

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 18, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I am trying to develop two step size buttons + and -  so that when you click either one, the AJAX SliderExtender will magically move itself by one.

I have tried implementing the following functions:

document.getElementById ("Slider1_BoundControl").value = 5;
document.getElementById ("Slider1").value =5;

here's what happens, I see that the BoundControl textbox works and it gets updated to 5.  However, the slider still does not update to its new position.  When the slider moves, a postback will occur.

The Slider1 is the textbox that  is the targetID to SliderExtender1 .  The boundcontrolID is Slider1_BoundControl (textbox)

Anyone know ? thanks

Javascript to update value in Textbox

Hi I have a javascript file, which creates a calendar picker. This file is used through out the application and is a piece of code that I have to use because my .Net application is part of another application which uses this piece of JavaScript code.Anyhow, with the calendar picker I can save the date into a textbox, but the problem that I have is the format. Unfortunately, I cannot change the calendar picker code because this will affect other parts of the application. Therefore, what I am looking to do is to reformat the date on the textbox control. This I can do but only when I use the javascript event onfocus.Now, my question is this, is there away in javascript or with jquery that when a value enters into a textbox that this value is then reformatted to the format I want without postback or clicking on the textbox?Thanks

Call a Javascript after an updatepanel has finished update

Hi,

I want a Javascript function to be called automatically after the UpdatePanel has finished updating its contents. I don't want to use:

Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_endRequest

and then call a JS function. This is because I have more than one update panels and I'll have to write all the condions to check which UpdatePanel was actually called and then do something. Can something be done using Triggers in UpdatePanel. Kindly let me know how this can be done.

It would be great of you could post a sample code too.

Thanks in advance.

call JavaScript - jQuery code from ASP.NET Server-Side

jQuery got so close to me lately that I can see myself adding the scripts to my project almost unconsciously. The thing is, jQuery is very useful for me, in almost all situations and it has been a do or die enhancement for all my project since I first put my hands on it.

Of course while using it, you encounter few situations which need a bit of research to solve, mostly when you are trying to combine it with some other technologies like: UpdatePanels and ASP.NET Ajax. For instance there are many situations when I would like to run some jQuery magic based on some decision that I make on the server side.

Textbox text populated by Session Variable wont update into SQL with new text

Hi everyone, I have what I think is a weird issue. I send text from one page to another via Session Variable. When page 2 loads, the text box has the session text set, but if the user changes the text and clicks the button, the SQL database is update with the original session text. If I remove the redirect from the page 2 button_Click method, then, the page refreshes with the textbox reverting to the session text and thr SQLDataSource has the session text added to it.

Why would the button click cause the textbox refresh with the text from the pageLoad before updating the data source?

Run a javascript function after UpdatePanel.Update()

I thought that adding the javascript within the ContentTemplate would cause it to run every time the UpdatePanel was updated.  For example, I would assume that for the following:

<atlas:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server" Mode="Conditional" >
    <ContentTemplate>
        Hello from inside the update panel!!!!
        <asp:Button ID="foo" runat="server" OnClick="foo_Click" Text="Click me to postback!" />
        <script type="text/javascript">alert('Javascript, baby!');</script>
    </ContentTemplate>
</atlas:UpdatePanel>

 would cause the function alert() to run every time the UpdatePanel returns from the button click.  This is not the case, however.

How do I do this?  My update panel contains a scrolling Div and I

Changing a textbox's readonly property right before update on a gridview

I have a gridview with a date field. I don't want the user to be able to type in their own date and mess up the format so I made the property readonly. That date is then set by a point and click interface. This is all working fine but when the user clicks update this field doesn't update because it's readonly. If i turn readonly off it works so is there a way to turn off the readonly property right before submit?

Call a web method in Javascript

Hi All,

I am first time working on web service and Javascript and trying to call a Web Method (web service) on a button click in Javascript.

What I want to achieve is as followed: When the button is clicked, call the web method, get the return URL value and store it to a session variable, the redirect the page to another page. However, this works only when the internet traffic is fast, it give me error when internet is slow as the Javascript is executed much faster than the web service. Is there any way to handle this?  Would be much appreciated for your help! Cheers.

Code as below:

JavaScript:

function emailButton_onClick()
{
getCurrentMapURL(function(){getCurrentMapURLOnSuccess();});

}

function getCurrentMapURL(getCurrentMapURLOnSuccess)
{
var proxy_url = 'WebService/GPSWebService.asmx/GetCurrentMap';

var response = map.print([proxy_url]);

if(getCurrentMapURLOnSuccess)
{
getCurrentMapURLOnSuccess();
}

}

function getCurrentMapURLOnSuccess()
{
emailAddress = document.getElementById('txtEmailAddress').value;

if(emailAddress != null)
//{alert(emailAddress);
alert('Do you want to send report

Issues with multiline textbox, javascript and IE

Hi All,

i have a requirement to embolden/italicise the selected  text in a textbox. the way it is implemented as is by using a js function which inserts <b> and </b> tags at the start and end of the selected text  for bold, and similarly <i> and </i> tags at the start and end of the selected text  for italics.

here is the code in c# (to add attributes to link buttons)

lkbBold.Attributes.Add("onclick", "AddHTMLTags('" + txtTitle.ClientID + "', 'B'); return false;");
lkbItalic.Attributes.Add("onclick", "AddHTMLTags('" + txtTitle.ClientID + "', 'I'); return false;");

the txtTitle is the id of the text box, which contains the selected text to be emboldend.

and here's the javascript method

function AddHTMLTags(textBoxId, format)
{
  var textComponent = document.getElementById(textBoxId);
  var selectedText;
  var textToReplace;

  var content = document.getElementById(textBoxId).value;
  var content1 ;
  var content2 ;
  var newContent;

      // For IE
      if (document.selection != undefined)
      {
        textComponent.focus();

        var len =  document.selection.createRange().text.length;
        var myrange

How to call ASMX from Javascript

I am very new to web services so this may be a very silly question: how do you call an ASMX web-service sychronously, so that the web-page doesn't finish loading until the web service has sent its response?  I need my Javascript calling function to sit tight until the web-service returns its response; at the moment, it continues execution without waiting.

I have a web service defined in an ASMX file:

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.Services;
using System.Data.SqlClient;
using System.Configuration;

/// <summary>
/// Summary description for MyService
/// </summary>
[WebService(Namespace = "http://www.myservice.com/")]
[WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)]
// To allow this Web Service to be called from script, using ASP.NET AJAX, uncomment the following line.
[System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService]
public class MyService: WebService
{
    public MyService()
    {

        //Uncomment the following line if using designed components
        //InitializeComponent();
    }

    [WebMethod]
    public string ValidateInfo (string arg 1, string arg2)
    {
        ...
        return response;
    }
}

In my ASPX file I have a reference to my web service:

Update SharePoint List item using UpdateListItem web service with javascript

I'm using the Custom_AddListMenuItems function in a CEWP to add a menu item to each list item to Archive that item. This is achieved by updating a choice field in the item to 'Archived'. I'm trying to do this using the web service UpdateListItem web service to update the item using Javascript, but I can not find the correct code that updates the list item. I'm using this code:     var ctx=currentCtx;     var ciid=currentItemID;     var xmlHttp=null;     if (confirm("Are you sure you want to Archive this item?"))     {         var soapRequest = '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>'+             '<soap:Envelope xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">'+             '    <soap:Body>'+             '        <UpdateListItems xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/">'+

Problem with JavaScript on Textbox

 I have a textbox which is populated by an external javascript file which I cannot alter without affecting another part of the system. What I would like to do is once this textbox has a value to do something with it. The javascript that I want to use is fine, but it won't automatically when a value has populated it i.e. onchange. It will work when the event is onfocus. Is there away in which I can automatically fire off my javascript event when a value has entered the textbox from another piece of javascript code?
