How to create scrolling table for columns in a SharePoint Designer Data View

I have a fairly complex SharePoint Designer 2007 Data View they have added two more requirements.

1. Have the columns on the right side be able to scroll left to right as there is a large number of columns, while the first 3 columns on the left side stay locked in place.  This is only one list not two, and because of some other requirements I have it must remain to be just one list.

2. Then they also need to have scrolling up and down of the entire list with the headers locked in place.

The first requirement is more important than the second, but preferrably I need to do both.

I am new to XSL so not familar with the syntax. Is this something I can do on a custom Data View? Does anyone have any examples of how?

I have a drawing that show how it needs to look but I don't see an option here to upload a graphic.

So here is a link to my graphic example uploaded to my blog area: http://lindachapman.blogspot.com/  or just the image here: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_aB01ue__NvQ/TGL42MOvrGI/AAAAAAAAAA4/c3xP4uCy4BU/s1600/Scrolling.png

I failed to mention that 3/4 of the columns are HTML Calculated fields wh

How to create a view in my database from a table in another server/database

Is there a way to create a view in my database referencing a table in another server/database if I have the connection information.  I know how to do it in Oracle, simply create a database link, but have never done so in sqlserver.

Collecting extra information using Create User Wizard

I am trying to collect extra information about a user when the user account is created using the Create User Wizard. This info will be stored in a new table in the standard ASP membership SQL database. I have read several books and loads of online tutorials on the subject and they all take different approaches and seem to make the process hard work. Is there any reason why I can't add an SQL datasource and a number of textboxes  to the wizard step, 'connect' the values from the textboxes to the Insert Parameters and then put an Insert Statement in a suitable event handler to cause the insert? If this is possible what would be the best (ie simplest) way to 'connect' the textboxes to the insert parameters?   Regards Andy

Create a new list View Style

Hi, In SharePoint 2010 for XSLT List View Web Part you can assign different view styles using SharePoint Designer. For example "Basic Table", "Boxed" or "Shaded" etc. These styles just don't fit my needs. So my question is how can I create my own View Style which I can apply to any list? I came across "Customize XSLT > Customize Entire View" option under Design tab in SharePoint Designer which allows me to change the XSL stylesheet and control the rendering for a list. But how can I create my own list "View Style" which I would like to reuse with other lists too? Thanks, Hitesh

How to create a custom view in SharePoint 2010?

I can't find a good answer for this with the 15 minutes of searching I have done. Makes me think that there might be some roadblocks here.  I want to create a custom view for a list in sharepoint. Basically, I want to conditionally apply some custom table row formatting based on a value of a column in that row  conditionally add an image along with a text in a column (again based on a column value) I am thinking that a custom view is the way to go...any direction on this? maybe a link to a good example? Thanks, Jake.

Create view that amins to tables of another database on the same sql server instance

Hi to everybody, I found a situation ever met before. I develop on Dynamics NAV 5.01 and I have developed a method to be able to see some particular tables of an external database. In substance it deals with a property of tables of Dynamics NAV. When I create a table in NAV, I can create it in 3 different ways: table common to all the companies table  for company or table linked to a view.    This last case is mine, on the same db of NAV I have created a view with some fields, I have created in NAV a table linked with equal fields and types. Until here all normal.    The view, however, aims to another database that doesn't center anything with NAV but that it is on the same intance of SQL server.    The consumer that accesses NAV is a consumer type database SQL Server and has the permitted db_public and db_datareader on both the database. Then he can read the views on the db of nav both on the db of the other database.    When it tries to enter from the console of sql server, with the consumer database, all it works, if I do it by NAV, it show me an error "The server principal "username" is not able to access the database "some_database_name" under the current security context. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 916) "    If I add on the database NAV to the consumer, the role db_owner,

Unable to create index for view

Hi, I'm including the script for my ProductCategories table but I think it might be very beneficial for you to understand what I'm doing first: As the name implies, the ProducttCategories table is where I store all product categories for an ecommerce site. Furthermore, the CategoryHierarchy column uses the HierarchyID datatype in SQL Server 2008 so that I can have a hierarchy and make suggestions to users who are looking for a product in a category along with all its child categories. Also, in order to make the site as user friendly as possible, I've implemented friendly URLs. Therefore, I need to do a reverse look up when someone requests: Electronics-DigitalCameras-DigitalSLRs to figure out the CategoryID (int) for the Digital SLR's category. I wanted to create an index in the database to make sure these look ups would have pretty good performance and that's where I got stuck. First, I got a message that told me that I couldn't create an index because my view was not bound to schema. And when I tried to do that, I got another error saying "Cannot schema bind view 'dbo.vwProductCategoriesAndPathsOrdered2' because name 'ProductCategories' is invalid for schema binding. Names must be in two-part format and an object cannot reference itself." The view simply creates a category path that looks like this: Electronics > Digital Cameras > Digital SLRs I'd

Explorer view losing folder path information

Hi all, I am writing a custom webpart to replace SP's default ListWebPart in my document library view page. But I found it can't keep the folder information when showing the "Explorer View". For example, I enter a subfolder "root/folder 1" and select "Explorer View" in  ViewToolbar, it returns the root folders content. But when I click the "Open in Windows Explorer" in ActionMenu, it returns contents of folder 1. I see the Sharepoint's ListViewWebpart does not have this problem. It can return correct contents when I enter a sub folder and click "Explorer View". The page's url contains correnct query strings about folder path (in my own webpart the query string is missing). Is it because I forget some config for the toolbar since I add it via codes? Below is my code to add the toolbar:   SPView view = this.CurrentView; if (view == null) return null; this._toolbar = new ViewToolBar(); this._toolbar.ID = this.ID + "_ViewToolBar"; this._toolbar.RenderContext = SPContext.Current; if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(view.ToolbarTemplateName)) { this._toolbar.TemplateName = view.ToolbarTemplateName; } return this._toolbar;   Thanks a lot.

101 question - New to VS 2010, create connection string to perform test with Oreilly txt book

Hello, I have installed VS 2010 Ultimate and it came with SQL 2008.  I am trying to figure out what version it is and also how to create a connection in place to keep using the Oreilly examples to hopefully learn how to develop in C#.  I have been learning but it is getting more difficult.   I try to follow the steps but it just does not make sense.  If anyone could provide some easy steps to check version and connection method to sql using 2010, I would be grateful. I did see a post for sql management(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=08e52ac2-1d62-45f6-9a4a-4b76a8564a2b&displaylang=en).  I am going to download to hopefully be able to view the database.  We have sql server 2008 at work and I have used the studio management for sql to run queries and would like to do the same with the version that was installed with the installation of 2010 ultimate.Hopefully I can get the connection to the database so I can start learning how to build a dictionary and list for some queries.  My goal is to create a aspx file that will show entries in a database we have at work.  Trying to take baby steps. Thanks for the help.
