RSReportDesigner.config Not Found in VS2010 Private Assemblies

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 17, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have VS2010 and currently installing Reporting Services 2008 (64 bit) and was expecting the RSReportDesigner.config and other config files and dlls to be installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies. But I dont happen to see them in there. Looks like it went into C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies. Is there any way to configure to install them at a desired path. If not then should I just go ahead and copy them from location X to location Y. Will they work okay?

MVC doesn't work once is published in the WEB, "Error 404 Page Not Found" vs2010 iis7 mvc 2rc2 I up

Hi Everyone.

I'm doing the samething in my two differents pc.

1) Windows 7,  vs2010 rc, mvc 2rc2, .Net 3.5

2) Winodws xp, vs2008, mvc 2rc2, .Net 3.5

My Hosting is in GOdaddy IIS 7, .Net 3.5.

I created a new project in both computers, i build it, i copied the 3 dll's files in the bin folder (System.Web.Mvc,  System.Web.Routing, system.Web.Abstractions), and i publish them...., i go to my website (www.luisbragagnolo) both same problem "Page Not Found"

 I tried many blogs...many advices...nothing yet....

Any other new Advice people? Thankssssssss

How to config ExpressionTreeVisualizer and SqlServerQueryVisualizer in VS2010?

in Vs2008 ,I copy the ".dll" file to: ...\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\Packages\Debugger\Visualizers.

Config Manager gives error "The specified module could not be found. [0x8007007e]"

I've been using SQL Server 2008 Express Edition on my development pc for several months now.  It has recently started giving me an error when I attempt to run the SQL Server Configuration Manager  (SQLServerManager10.msc).  I have uninstalled completely and reinstalled twice which has not solved the problem.  I can run the Management Studio just fine and everything works, I just can't run the Configuration Manager which is an issue.

Full error message is as follows:

Cannot connect to WMI provider.  You do not have permission or the server is unreachable.  Note that you can only manage SQL Server 2005 and later servers with SQL Server Configuration Manager.
The specified module could not be found. [0x8007007e]

I have tried the workaround listed here: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/Workaround.aspx?FeedbackID=443459 however I did not have a sqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof file in my local install.  I copied the one from my production installation and ran the mofcomp.exe program successfully but it did not solve the issue.

Clean Web.Config Files (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

.NET 4 includes a new version of the CLR, and a new .NET 4 specific machine.config file (which is installed side-by-side with the one used by .NET 2, .NET 3 and .NET 3.5).

The new .NET 4 machine.config file now automatically registers all of the ASP.NET tag sections, handlers and modules that we've added over the years, including the functionality for:

.ASP.NET Dynamic Data
.ASP.NET Routing (which can now be used for both ASP.NET WebForms and ASP.NET MVC)
.ASP.NET Chart Control (which now ships built-into ASP.NET V4)
What this means is that when you create a new "Empty ASP.NET application" project in VS 2010, you'll find that the new default application-level web.config file is now clean and simple:

Handling 404 page not found with Error page

How do i handle 404 page not found?

scripts file not found on server - 404

Fiddler is showing a 404 error when my published web application runs. the jquery.js file in
/scripts is highlighted in red by fiddler as not found. ( IIS log also shows the 404 error ).
I run the web app from visual studio, on local host - no problems. The publish is successful.
All the files are in the scripts folder of the web app on the server.

In the site.master I have:
<script src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

Visual studio does not complain about this. ( which indicates the file is found. )

Oddly, when I fully qualify the path, VS says file not found, but after I publish and run, fiddler
shows the jquery file being found and sent to the browser.
<script src="/MvcApplication1/Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

when the <script> path is "../../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.min.js", the fiddler error is
404: /Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.min.js .

when the <script> path is "/MvcApplication1/Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.min.js", fiddler shows the file
being sent to the browser from that /MvcApplication1/Scripts path.

Both the Scripts fol

VS2010 Professional .NET 4.0 Remote Debugging ASP Website Project

Trying to remote debug ASP website from VS2010 Pro to Windows Server 2003 machine.  Specifically, trying to debug a Web Service, but breakpoint says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."  This happens for all compiled code though.  I have read this is due to missing PDB files and the work around is to manually copy them, as noted here.  Problem is, I cannot find any PDB files for my project, except referenced libraries, which I can remote debug.

  • web.config has <compilation debug="true">
  • Debugger is attached to wewp.exe process on remote server
  • Installed VS2010 remote debugger from DVD (as I can remote debug referenced libraries)

This is beyond frustrating.  I migrated my code from VS2008 .Net3.5 to VS2010 .Net4.0 to take advantage of the inherent multithreading framework.  Debugging works when using local host and was stable until deployment to test server.

Thanks in advance,

How can I be sure that my entire project is up-to-date and free of errors in VS2010?

Seems like a stupid question, but I will go to Build > Build Solution many many times and the build will succeed many many times, then I will put in a minor syntax error and the build will fail, BUT the build will not fail because of the minor syntax error; it will fail because of an unresolved type that I put in about twenty compiles ago. And then I will fix the minor syntax eror, and the compiler will still complain about the unresolved type. Here is my code:

<%@ Register TagPrefix="FTB" Namespace="FreeTextBoxControls" Assembly="FreeTextBox" %>
  <form runat="server">
  Hello World!!

Pretty simple, really. I go to Buld > Build WebApplication1 and it runs OK. Now, if I put in a minor syntax error, such as substitute "forrrrrrrm" for "form" and then try to Build Solution, it complains not about the misspelled word, but about the FreeTextBox. And then if I correct the misspelled wird, it still complains about the FreeTextBox. Which leads me to believe that Building the Solution does not check absolutely 100% everything that needs to be checked. Is there a more thorough way of compiling a program that I need to use?

Where is SilverLight Toolkit in VS2010?

I read somewhere that MS has integrate SilverLight Toolkit into VS2010. Where is it? I can't find it under Toolbox.

urlrouting - page not found error

I have a dynamic data site setup and running locally fine from vs 2008.

When i deploy to a remote windows 2003 server (IIS6), all the pages also work ok apart from one page/table.  I can access it's list page,  but the edit and insert pages throw 404 errors.

I'm thinking it's a url routing/hosting issue as i've copied back the database from the remote server and it all works fine on my local machine.

Is there anything i can do to debug this behaviour?

Below is my register routes entry from the global.asax

Any suggestions greatly appreciated as, i've been stuck on this for days :(

reading values from config files in NUnit tests

One of my NUnit tests has to read in some values from config files.  In my main application this process works perfectly well, however when I run the unit test, the code that reads in the values from the config files doesnt read anything in.  Ive tried putting app.config in my unit test project (I even tried web.config) but nothing seems to work.  Are there any special steps involved when reading from config files in an nunit test ?

NUnit and config files

Ive created an NUnit test project in my solution and have added 3 tests.  They all fail with the same error

Bitmap FromFile space "file not found"

I am using aspose.slides to create PPTx's. Some of the process involves loading jpg's from another server and including them in the presentation. This works fine in my development environment. When I upload the site to its server, the jpg loading fails.

I am trying to access jpg's on the other server by:

   oFS = New FileStream(sFile, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)

This causes an access violation error when run from the server.

I also boiled the code down to reading the file directly:

   oImg = System.Drawing.Bitmap.FromFile(sFilePath)

This causes a file not found error.

We have narrowed the problem down to the fact that the File Path has a space in it. How does one solve this problem (while still keeping the space, there is a lot of legacy data)? I have tried replacing the space with %20 or +. I have tried using Server.UrlEncode. The error message always comes back with the encoding in place (like no decoding

Modifying connection String in Web config using Install Wizard

Im trying to create a Web Deployment Project, the built in setup and deployment is very good in Visual Studio, i need to able to add an additional step in the setup to change the connection string in the Web config file. Ive seen a lot of articles on how to do this and in particular this http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2007/06/15/tip-trick-creating-packaged-asp-net-setup-programs-with-vs-2005.aspx#7162670 I am however stuck on the final part of this tutorial, im using the code Scott provided but have two errors,  heres part of my code where the errors are
