can't start User Profile syncronization Service or FIM services

Using 2k8 R2, SQL 2k8 SP1 CU5 and Sharepoint 2010 RC. Standalone install with DC on separate server

Install to vanilla AD - can't do anything until I can get this service running and I can't run it because when I try to start it and I get a screen that lists the Service app - fine - but the service account is greyed out and listing NTAuthority\NetworkService - it demands a password but of course I can't priovide one. Can't select a different Service account because it's all greyed out - even if I create a new managed account and add that as an Admin to the Service Application

FIM services both won't start either -

Out of box install and nothing works - hardly bodes well

Anyway - seen lots of posts on problems with starting this service - anyone found a solution?

Unable to start user profile synchronization service

Hello, I have the following problem. user profile synchronization service doesn't start up, with the following error in log: The service encryption keys could not be found. User Action Verify that the service account has permissions to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Forefront Identity Manager\2010\Synchronization Service If the problem persists, run setup and restore the encryption keys from backup. Permissions for registry are availabele. Thank you.

User Profile Syncronization - Stuck in Progress

Hi all, I have been working to get some of the MySite properties exported to Active Directory (such as thumbnailphoto). Today, I created a new domain service account (sa-sharepointadds) and granted it the nesecarry permissions on the domain. In SP, I configured the User Profile Sync to connect to the domain and do a full sync (import only at this time) which completed correctly. I then enabled exporting a couple of profile properties and started another sync. I saw in the Application Event Log that an error occured, so I used the FIM Sync Service Manager application to view the steps and the errors. I saw that the sync was running with my sa-sharepoint service account which is the Farm account and not the sync account sa-sharepointadds, and that a permission error occured because this account has no rights to modify Active Directory. I went into the User Profile Sync Connection and verified the correct account was in use and it was. I then went to Security > Configure Service Accounts and saw that I needed to change the service account for the User Sync service. I changed it to the sa-sharepointadds account. I went back to User Profile Sync, however my connection had disappeared. I tried to create a new connection and got the error that a sync is already in progress and that I cannot make changes until it finishes. I knew that nothing was currently running, so I did an iis

Is there a way to undo/remove/delete an active directory user profile syncronization? [SP 2010]

I successfully managed to synchronize the active directory with Sharepoint 2010.  Unfortunately, the farm I was on has different FQDN /Netbios domain names.  So all ~1000 user profiles are now imported with the wrong domain, and the subsequent errors one would expect.

Is there a way to get back to a blank slate?  technet has an article on "resetting" profile synchronization (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff681014.aspx), but that requires being able to verify the GUID of the user profile synchronization database, which I am also unaware of how to do.

Please help, and thank you in advance.

user profile syncronization failed

for a few days i want to connect to active directory.

i have installed sharepoint a few time because i thought i have installed someting wrong.

when you installed a normal sharepoint site with the wizard the user profile syncronisation services is automaticly been created with other stuff.

but this service can't get started.

any suggestions of why it's always failed?

Start over with User Profile Syc

I'm teaching myself how Sharepoint 2010 works (the boss wants SP, but doesn't want to pay for the classes) and I've got a test installation up and running.

I think I've fairly well borked up my attempt to sync user profiles over from our main AD, to the point the services won't start.  It might be that hotfix patch I applied.   Regardless it wasn't working right even before that.

What I'd like to do is dump all configuration information for the existing FIM and try provisioning it "clean."  Is there any way to do this or should I just roll my VM back to the last snapshot?  I don't really want to roll it back because I have some other things working fairly well e.g. search, so I consider a rollback a last resort.

This is SP2010 Server running on W2008R2 and MS SQL 2008 R2 (standard.)

User Profile Synchronization won't start

Running Sharepoint 2010 on Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2008 R2. Acts like the service is starting then stops. Takes about 15 minutes, which apparently is normal. I'm logged in as the farm account(spadmin), added to the farm administrators accounts, and the service is set to start as the farm account.

This is the error I assume is holding it up. HELP!!! I've been at this for 5 days.

User Profile Syncronization in SP 2010 .. just reads starting.

At some point i was in the configuration area for user profile synchronization connections, but for the life of me can't find it now.

I did change the service account for the service and attempted to start it, but now it just reads Starting and I can no longer figure out how I even got into the page that would allow me to add a new connections.   I've rebooted - no luck. I see nothing in the event viewer or timer jobs.

Code Optimized Web Development Profile (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

When you first run VS 2010 it prompts you to select an IDE profile to use. The profile you select will configure how tool windows are displayed/docked in the IDE by default and set the default keyboard shortcuts. You can then customize any of these settings by using the Tools->Options menu within the IDE and then override/change them. You can also later reset your profile and pick a different one by choosing the Tools->Import and Export Settings menu command.

SharePoint 2007 Workflows - Things to Consider Before You Start

SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) utilizes the Workflow Foundation (WF) to enable workflows on lists and content types. But before you start doing cartwheels there are few things you should know before you get started. The experiences I'll be discussing are not from book smarts but from building real MOSS solutions that are in production today.

Configuring Profile Image Export in SharePoint 2010

It's no secret that I am thrilled with the new social features of SharePoint 2010. I am most excited about the new Profile Picture handling. I strongly believe that the more we can show the faces of our colleagues to one another the more connected we will feel. Clearly Microsoft feels that way as witnessed by the many features that make use of the Profile Image like the Activity Feed and Colleagues list

Setting the default start page in godaddy hosting?

How do you set the start page with godaddy hosting? I can see no way of doing this! You do not seem to have access to the IIS settings that allow you to change it!

Profile not being save after redirect.

I am trying to save values into a Profile on Page1, then redirect to Page2 and access those values.  However, after the page redirects the profile values are blank as if they were never saved.   When stepping through the code I can see that they are being save on Page 1.

I suppose I could use session variables to store the information but I don't understand why saving the profile doesn't work.

I am trying to make URLs for users profile pages like Facebooks e.g. http://site.com/username. I had a code snippett from a book for how to do this but when it runs it says its processing a request that will never finish. Im new with HttpModules/handlers but Ive looked over like 100 pages trying to figure this out. My code is below. Any help figuring this out would be greatly appreciated..
