I am hoping someone can help as I have literally wasted hours on this.
I have a 64 bit version of Windows Server 2008 being hosted on a VM under VMWare ESX 3.5
There is nothing else installed on it other than the basic O/S install and I have added IIS and MSMQ as features. Ther server is added to a domain, assigned an IP etc... I can install Visual Studio on there, SQL Server 2005 and 2008 without a problem as well and even connect to them remotely from another trusted domain.
Yet I just cannot install WSS 3.0 on there. I am using the SP1 version for 64 bit, I have checked and re-checked numerous times for the file from MSDN and looked in numerous blogs and postings but it just won't bloody work.
Everytime I run the installer it gets to the end and then throws this error in the Event Log:The description for Event ID 5000 from source Microsoft Office 12. Either the component that raises this is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer
With the following dataOffice12Setup
I have tried everything from changing things in the registry to using secure RDP sessions and it just will not work no matter how hard I try.
Further to this the install actually drops all the SharePoint binaries
