Viewing your In-Box from the Home Page

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 26, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a user request to access the user's Outlook In-Box from the home page in SP 2010.  The OWS In Box web part requires a hard-coded email address.  Is there any way to have the web part accept a variable?  That way I could pass the email address from AD.

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

My site link on my home page.

One of the user got My owa link in place of my site on the my home page ( go to my site --> my home --> top right corner shows My owa insead of my site ) and he wants to edit that my owa link now. first of all i dont know how he got that My owa link in the place of my site on my home page. When he surfs any other page than he is getting my site on all other pages. so he is just getting My owa link in place of my site only on the my home page.

At the first glanse, i think it would be master page issue but if that would be the case than it shold apply all the users but this is happening just for one user and we are not using custom master page.

Please help.

Viewing files only from a web page

I have some images and text files that are used by web pages that are available to anonymous users and therefore those files can be viewed directly from a browser. Is there a way to avoid this and allow the files to be viewed only when a page in the web site calls it ?Humberto

Permission Errors for Users on Home Page only of SQL Server Reporting Services Report Manager

I have spent days now investigating this problem, so any help very much appreciated! I have a remote web server 2003 running SQL Server R2 Express Edition with Reporting Services installed. I use Report Builder 3.0 locally to build report. If I login via Internet to Report Manager Web Page as an administrator I can perform all the expected and required actions, creating new folders and assigning permissions for users etc. I have added a new user "ReportUser" as a Browser of a child folder. If ReportUser longs on to home page, he receives the all too familiar error: User 'XXXXXXXX\reportuser' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed. However, if the user starts at the child folder of home page, and then logs in, he sees the expected page, and can run the report!  This is not very satisfactory. How can I allow user to see home page, without an error message, but not be allowed to click on any folders to which he is not entitled? I am now aware that SQL Server R2 Express Edition has many limitations compared with full Editions (fixed roles, cannot manage Report Service from Management Studio etc) , and many of the "solutions" offered on the web just do not apply.   John Walton

Home Page Load

Dear Friends, I am working on the Home Page of a new client. The client wants me to show 5 images in his home page, which he does not want to part with.I am using a master page and also a user control in the home page. All this make the home page too heavy(if this is the right word). All are .jpg images. The master page contains logos and the user control is a table containing hyperlink to navigate to other web pages.  Having said that ,Is there any way to reduce the  time to load the home page. Any help would be appreciated?

css files not loading when viewing page at http://localhost...

Hello, has anyone had the following problem: css files are in the head element, and the styles are clearly being picked up by the .aspx page when in Design or Split view. Yet when running on localhost, the stylesheet has no effect. And when publishing the website to IIS on a remote server, the css clearly does take effect. I've never seen anything like this...

RSS - Is there a way to display all new content across several subsites on a top level home page ?

I have an Intranet site that contains several departmental intranet sites.

Is it possible to have a web part on the homepage of the top level intranet that displays all recently added content to the various sub sites ?

The Group Work Site template has the "What's New" web part on it's home page and I have the follow

I can't find that web part as something I can use elsewhere? As in, I can't add that web part on other pages made even on the same site. What would be ideal is to have that web part available to add as needed to other sites/pages of course. As it stands, for me it seems the only place I can use that web part is on the home page of a new "Group Work Site", i hope that I'm wrong. I've tried exporting the web part, but the importing does nothing when trying to import it to other sites, of course other 2010 sites. Please let me know how I may add that web part to my available to use web parts please.

In report manager is it possible to prevent users from going to the "Home" page?

I have created my own menu system and would like to prevent casual users from ever going to the home screen as it just confuses them.  Is there a way to turn off this option?

Viewing original blog posting from search page

I have an installation of WSS 3.0 with a blog.  When users search in the blog, results are returned as expected on the search page with one line containing the search phrase.  However when they click on a result they are taken to a Comments page for the posting and can't see the text of the original post which is generally the reason for the search.  The link on the search hit (ex: http://server1:8000/thelog/Lists/Posts/ViewPost.aspx?ID=232) does the same thing.  How can they access the original text of a blog posting from a search or how can the original text be included on the Comments page?  Thanks!

how to set the site to open Calender or a document list (the home page)WSS3.0

I believe there is a setting to make a list or calendar to open when go to a site home page, but I cannot find it now, and not though google either, please help.

Can the Best Practices link on the SharePoint 2010 Upgrade home page get fixed?

The Best Practices link on the SharePoint 2010 Upgrade page goes to a page in SPS2003

Any chance of getting that fixed, so it goes somewhere to talk about upgrading to SharePoint 2010?

Original page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/ee514557.aspx

Link title: Best Practices for Ensuring Application Reusability and Upgrade in Windows SharePoint Services

Drops you right into SPS2003 documentation.

Seems an embarrassing bug.

Sharepoint 2007 publishing site home page displays unknown file type security message

I am using sharepoint 2007 sp2, it has been workig fine for the past 8 months but since one of the developers installed .net 4.0 framework, every time we create a new sharepoit publishng site or extend and existing application the home url displays an "Unknown File Type" security warning message and asks users to download the file.  If i manually tupe in the full url http://www.mysite.com/pages/default.aspx it is displayed correctly. I have uninstalled .net 4 from the server but i still have the same  error. I have tried to replicate this error on a development server but sharepoitn works fine on that even with .net 4.0 installed.

Has anyone had the same issue ? I would appreciate  any suggestios or help with troubleshootig this issue.

RedirectToAction() go to View that was being viewed instead of home page

I am using some Html.ActionLinks to change the value of a Session variable. Right now I am RedirectToAction("Index","Home"). This puts the user back at the home page every time they change that value. I would like to return the user to the view they were one when they clicked that link instead of redirecting them back to the home page. How can I do that?

The XML page cannot be displayed
