build repository from SQL 2005? for a Linq, Jquery autocomplete

  I have the a question am going about his correctly I have a database for categories, it has many fields and about 4000 records,  but with a Jquery autocomplete needing speed and the fact that I only need to return a key and category name. I did the following:  (oh just to note, MVC2, Ajax project)

    public class categorySearch
        public Guid Category_GUID { get; set; }
        public string Category_Name { get; set; }

and now for the repository

    public class categoryRepository
        internal List<categorySearch> FindCategory(string searchText, int maxResults)
            List<categorySearch> category = new List<categorySearch>();
            dbWebEntities storedb = new dbWebEntities();

            var getcat = storedb.Categories.ToList();

            foreach (var item in getcat)
                category.Add(new categorySearch { Category_GUID = item.Cat_GUID, Category_Name = item.Category_Name});

            var result = from c in category
                         where c.Category_Name.Contains(searchText)
                         orderby c.Category_Name

Autocomplete with multiple word suggestions, How can we do in Asp.Net with Ajax?

Hi All,

Could you please let me know the process to get multiple word suggesions for a text box in asp.net using Ajax.

Actually I got a solution for that,

But it used Atlas. When I am running with this code in my application, it is conflicting with Script Manager that is already there in Masterpage.

How can I overcome that problem. Is there any built-in solution in latest versions of Ajax?

Thanks in Advance,

Sateesh Nagalla,

Visual Studio 2010 and Autocomplete Extender

The AutoComplete Extender control from the AJAX Control Toolkit does not work. It uses a webservice to retrieve data for the Autocomplete functionality.

The problem seems to be that the event to call the webservice does not fire

I just created a new website in VS 2010 and copied and pasted the AJAX Controltookit Example code for the Autocomplete extender. This works in VS 2008 but not VS 2010

Any ideas? suggestions? Some setting in VS 2010 that has to be tweeked.

AutoComplete using Page Method HELP!

My site has 2 web service, one connects to the database, the second one calling the data from the first web service. I try to make a web application with AutoComplete Extender using Page Method from existing search.

This is the search code:

Imports App.svcNewApp

Imports System.Web.Services

Partial Public Class AppSearch

    Inherits System.Web.UI.Page

    Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load

        Dim aService As NewApp = New NewApp()

        Dim aDataSet As DataSet = Nothing

        Dim cityZip As String = Request.Form("cityZip")

        Dim city As String = ""

        Dim aTable As DataTable

        Dim aRow As DataRow

        If (cityZip <> Nothing) Then

            Dim n As Integer

Autocomplete Colors

I have a question about the colors of the text in the drop down list of Autocomplete box. I'm trying to categorize them into 2 differents colors. For example, the autocomplete box will display the list of soft drink in the store and the color will identify them as "sold out" or "available".

The data in my database is seperated into 2 columns. The first one is the names of the soft drink, and the second columns identify them as "sold out" or "available.

The autocomplete box was implemented in my website using page method. There is a function in the code behind page, calling data from the web services.

Please let me know if there is any suggestion, guideline or any reference link to the answer of my problems.

Thank you.

Autocomplete display multiple columns

 Hi --

I have an autocomplete extender working great returning one column and I can also retrieve multiple columns just fine from my stored procedure, but here's what I really need to do:

1. Format the data in the autocomplete extender in the following format:

Location Number
City, State, Zip

2. When the user makes a selection I want only the Location Number to populate the textbox.

I've looked quite a bit on this site and others on how to do #2 and I can't seem to find exactly how this should be done. Is there some javascript that needs to be involved in order accomplish this?

If anyone has done this I would really appreciate an example.
