I am stuck in half way in where should I save activation key either in xml file, text file or .dat file. or instead

If in case I have given one product key to one machine then this same key should not apply to any other machine.

Create drop-down filter for External List

I hope this is an easy question. I will have an external list of a bunch of people.  There are several ways I want to display this data: All of them, Only the ones that have a value of 1-4 in the status field, Only the ones that have any other value in the status field, and people that have a value of 1-4 in the status field, but are at a certain location. I want to be able to put a drop-down filter above the list where people can select that. Could someone please point me in the right direction? Time is of the essence.

Excel External Table Data can only create new SharePoint List when Exporting from Excel?

I have a SQL Query that I refresh everyday in Excel. I want to be able to export this list over to a SharePoint list right after my refresh in Excel but I can only Export to a SharePoint list only once. If I try to export again to the same list then it will give me the error "The specified list name is already in use on this server. You must rename the list before publishing it to the server." I have web parts that have connections to this list and I do not want to export my Query to a new SharePoint list everyday. Does anyone know a way around this issue?

Sharepoint Foundation - Create and deploy custom edit/view forms for external lists

Firstly, we are using sharepoint foundation so Infopath forms are not an option for us.

We have a Visual Studio sharepoint project which deploys a complete sharepoint site. The site contains a number of external lists and we want to be able to create customised view/edit forms for these lists and add them to our Visual Studio project so they can be deployed as part of the new site. The idea is that we can deploy the solution to a fresh site with a default set of forms which can then be customised for different implementations of the site.

Here's the steps we have been using to try and do this:

1. Deploy the base project (BDC) to the sharepoint site

2. Create external lists based on the BDC content types

3. Use Sharepoint Designer to create new edit/view forms for the lists and set these as the default forms for the list

3. Save the site as a template

4. Import the template into a new Visual Studio project and select the lists we require. This gives us a List Definition, a pages module (with element file), an elements file and a schema file (both for the List Instance).

5. We then add the contents of the imported project to our main solution as follows:

  • Create a new List Definition (including List Instance)
  • Copy the contents of the imported Elements.xml to the Elements file for our List Instance.

Create new record using external CSV file

I have a CSV file that contains e-mail addresses. I would like to use that file to create new records for customers whose e-mail addresses exist in the CSV file.

The new record for all customers will be identical, except for the counter which is a unique key:

Here is the structure of the table:

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Letter_C](
	[Counter] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
	[DateCreated] [datetime] NULL,
	[DateModified] [datetime] NULL,
	[PrimaryCode_C] [nvarchar](30) NOT NULL,
	[UserCreated] [nvarchar](30) NULL,
	[UserModified] [nvarchar](30) NULL,
	[ContactCode_C] [nvarchar](50) NULL,
	[Description_C] [nvarchar](250) NULL,
	[LetterName_C] [nvarchar](250) NULL,
	[LetterPath_C] [nvarchar](250) NULL,
	[LetterCode_C] [nvarchar](50) NULL,

Create View in an External List that Gets a Field from Another External Content Type via Foreign Key

I currently have two tables in a SQL Server 2k8 database: Locations and Customers

The fields in the Locations table are:

  • LocationName
  • StreetAddress
  • City
  • State
  • ZIP
  • CusotmerID (foreign key joined to Customers table)

The fields in the Customers table are:

  • ID (primary key)
  • CustomerName
  • CurrentBalance

Through SharePoint Designer, I have both tables set up as External Content Types of the same names as the tables and have created External Lists for each External Content Type. All CRUD operations are working perfectly. I added the proper Assocaiation and I've set CustomerName to be the Title of the Customers External Content Type. I can currently use a picker for CustomerID in the Locations List and CustomerName is displayed properly. Also, the default DispForm also correctly displays the CustomerName for any single Location record.

However, I would like to modify the default ReadList so the foreign key (CustomerID) will show the Title field of Customers (CustomerName). However, I am running into trouble finding out how to do this.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated!!

Programatically Create External List

Emp_Id Emp_Name Emp_Age
 1 X 40
 2 Y 50

Emp_Id Emp_Stat Emp_Dt
  1 A 12/12/2010
  2 N 12/12/2011
i have above table in my Database and i want to create a external list in which it shows all the columns from the two table and the condition is the Emp_Stat should be 'A'.In this case it should show only the Emp_id =1(coz emp_Stat of 1 is 'A').

How can we do this filter while creating the External List. We are creating the external list by using the BDC Model.

Thanks & Regards

How to create external SP site?

Hi we have a SP2010 intranet site up and running, but we now need to create a basic external site (it will be a Doc Library where we can host a few files for people to access).

Does anyone have any info about the setting up of this site (is it just a new web app and then new site collection?).  Also if anyone has any advice in handling access to the site that would be great too.  We would only like certain people to be able to access it.  Would they request access?  Thanks

Create registry keys on X64 registry during X86 app installation.

My applications is built with X86 target platform.

I’m creating the registry keys in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon for auto-login to windows during my app installation. For this I’m executing a .reg file.

This process works in any X86 machines normally.

When I install this in X64 machine, all my registry keys were created under WOW6432Node (HKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion \WinLogon). Due to this issue auto-login not happening upon machine reboots.

How to create the registry keys under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\ CurrentVersion \WinLogon during installation?

Thanks in advance.

Surrogate vs Natural Primary Keys - Data Modeling Mistake 2 of 10

In case you're new to the series I've compiled a list of ten data modeling mistakes that I see over and over that I'm tackling one by one. I'll be speaking about these topics at the upcoming IASA conference in October, so I'm hoping to generate some discussion to at least confirm I have well founded arguments.

The last post in this series Referential Integrity was probably less controversial than this one. After all, who can argue against enforcing referential integrity? But as obvious as surrogate keys may be to some, there is a good deal of diversity of opinion as evidenced by the fact that people continue to not use them.

Create And Run Excel Macro At Runtime in C#

You've been tasked with writing a Windows Form application using the .NET Framework that interacts with Microsoft Excel. If you are new to working with Excel in .NET and are having trouble learning how to format certain cells or cell ranges, then this little tip will come in handy. Rather than scour the internet hoping to find the correct set of constants or method syntax for formatting your spreadsheet, use the built in tools in Excel to write the familiar VBA code for you. Then, you can paste the VBA code generated by Excel into the sample C# code below and run it dynamically at runtime.

Create and Use a Typed DataSet by Using Visual C# .NET

This article shows you how to create and use a typed DataSet in a small Web application. Typed DataSets, which inherit from the DataSet class, create first-class members of a DataSet's DataTables and DataColumns, yielding the many benefits that come with the use of strong typing.
