SP Foundation 2010 not displaying my default site page...

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I'm new to Sharepoint and have successfully installed Sharepoint Foundation 2010 on a Windows 7 x64 machine using the instructions on MSDN (instructions are fantastic; by the way).  However, when i completed executing psconfigui.exe (Sharepoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard) my default site was not displayed as mentioned in the setup instructions.

Instead I got a webpage cannot be found (HTTP 404) error.  The URL displayed was "http://kweeks-dell"; which doesn't seem right to me.

I was able to run the Central Administration console and display various admin tasks; however, when i tried to create a new site (i.e. "http://kweeks-dell:10178/MyFirstSite"), I get an error message "URL Name contains illegal character ':'".  Where 10178 is part of the URL of the admin site.

I'm really confused cuz i don't see any problems with my installation but yet i cannot get a site setup that i can start work with.

Anyone, I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Is there a site page default.master in SharePoint Server 2010??

I inserted a few lines of code on the wkpstd.aspx template to "show" the document library properties on each wiki page within each wiki page library. This is working fine, except that the property Document ID
is showing up on site pages as well.  I checked Moss 2007 and I foumd that there is a bpcf.aspx default page that is used to create a basic page. Is there a separate template or master page for the site pages within 2010 that i can modify?

Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When Upgraded a site from Wss 3.0 to Sharepoint foundation 2010, subsites are not working

HI ALL, I recently migrated an old Sharepoint site from WSS 3.0 to Sharepoint foundation 2010. There were no problems during the upgrade and the stsadm command displayed the message that upgrade completed successfully. However when I am accessing the sub-sites from outside the server, I am able to see the content, but when I go to Site Settings, I get an error "File not found". Also the Views for the sub-sites are not working. However on accessing the sub-sites from the Server everything is working fine. Can anyone please help me?

Problem Saving Files to A Sharepoint 2010 Site from Office 2010: Saves locally by default rather tha

Hi we are starting to use sharepoint 2010 / word 2010 and have found an interesting bug/problem. Sometimes when a user tries to save a file (by clicking on the save button in the quick access toolbar for word 2010) the save dialog comes up with the users local "Documents" folder as the path (not the correct sharepoint path where the document should be saved).  (I should say that we are creating the file from sharepoint by using a toolbar on the document library, with the new button)  We are using a content type and a template attached to the document library when we create the file.  This is really annoying because the user might not notice that the document is saving locally and not to sharepoint.  I have found a strange workaround which involves clicking the [File] tab on the ribbon in word 2010, then clicking "Save and Send" and then clicking the save button again.  At this point word 2010 seems to "remember" that it is trying to save document to sharepoint and shows the sharepoint document library. This is a real nuisance which could lead to documents being lost/misfiled if people don't realize that this is happening.  Can anyone help me? Thanks Kevin krd

host-named site collection, 401 error (SP Foundation 2010)

I'm trying to create a host-named site collection. However, after its creation, I try to access it with the browser and I'm challenged to enter my username/password  (validating through Active Directory, I believe) and I get a blank page. Looking in the IIS log I see a 401 error with sub-status 1. I'm creating everything programmatically through the  API. I'm following this article:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288637.aspx# It's not clear in the article exactly what DNS does or should do with host-named site collections. I added a line to my hosts file:   altlocalhost And I can ping altlocalhost with no problem. When I deploy directly a simple site collection without host-named stuff I'm not challenged to enter user name/password and the site works fine (and I'm authenticated with AD).

Adding a custom control to the SharePoint 2010 Team Site Wiki Page Template ( wkpstd.aspx ) programm

Topic This is maybe my last post about the Team Site Wiki Page customization with the aim of exceeding its limitations. This time we are going to customize the unique template ( wkpstd.aspx) by replacing the control that renders the editable content by a custom one. In this post example, we will take advantage of the use of this custom control to render not editable additional contents, for instance, a header and a footer that could be the same for a specific Wiki Page Library. Of course, we are not going to really customize the template, but we are going to use a delegate control to replace the control at runtime. Here are the screen shots of the result: We can see a non editable Header and Footer on the Team Site Wiki Page In edit mode these additional contents are not rendered, but we can add new content as usual And of course, after having saved the page, the new content is rendered wtih the non editable Header and Footer. Steps required   If you look at the Team Site Wiki Page template, wkpstd.aspx, you can see the control that is rendering the editable content/ <SharePoint:EmbeddedFormField ID="WikiField" FieldName="WikiField" ControlMode="Display" runat="server" /> We are first going to create a custom EmbeddedFormField control Then, we are going to use a delegate control to replace the native EmbeddedFor

SharePoint 2010 new site collection display blank page

I'm using Windows Vista SP2 and trying to learn Sharepoint 2010. I'm new to Sharepoint and I'm sorry if I'm asking something very simple. I've successfully installed Sharepoint foundation 2010 and VS 2010. According to the installation instruction if the installation is successful I should see the new sharepoint website home page or ask for login info which will take to the home page. But for me it displayed a blank web page. I was able to get to Sharepoint Central administration page by clicking the browse option from IIS, it asked me login info and when I provided that I was able to see the Sharepoint central administration page. Now I am trying to create a new site collection, it is succesfully creating the new site collection and showing the link, but when I access the link I see a blank webpage. I think it is some permission issue and if the program prompts login, it should work, but how can I get to the login window or how can I see the home page and not a blank page? Thanks

Can't inherit default page layout on a publishing site?

Hi,   Implementing SharePoint for the first time.   We've got a page layout that we want to use as a default. We've got it set as the default in the top site in the site collection. However, when I create a Publishing Site with Workflow, it doesn't default to using the right layout, despite the fact the sub-site's Site Settings / Page Layouts show that it it set to inherit the default page layout from its parent.   Oddly, when I create another type of site, e.g. a Blank Site, it does inherit the default layout.   Any suggestions?   :|Ben

After Installing SharePoint Foundation 2010, trying to open site gives 404 error in browser

I had this as reply on a thread about migrating from WSS 3.0 to SFS 2010. But I have completed all the steps with the modified documentation, but the browser delivers an error 404 when I try to open the site I created.  Same thing happens if I go at it via https, but first I get a certificate warning error (using the IP instead of the FQDN) and then being prompted for credentials.

I am completely stumped at what else to look at.  Any help in gathering information to get help is also appreciated.

Environment:  SBS 2008, SFS 2010, SQL Express 2008.  Rest of the IIS sites continue to function normally and I can get to the management site ok.  Although after the install, I had to go into application pool and change the service account from the domain admin (it defaulted to that) to networkservice account, otherwise I got a 503.  Same thing happened on the site I created until I changed the service account.  Now just a 404.

How to create a custom page layout in sharepoint foundation 2010

I need to create a custom page layout in sharepoint foundation 2010.

I am aware that wss 3.0 and sharepoint foundation do not have the publishing infrastructure.

I need to know if the same procedure that is used to create custom web part pages in WSS 3.0 is to be used in SharePoint foundation too or are there other ways.

I am relatively a fresher to sharepoint technology. Please help.

Thanks in advance:D.

Using HttpModule to change master page dynamically on SharePoint 2010 site

I am trying to change master page dynamically on SharePoint 2010 site. I reviewed some documents (SharePoint: Dynamically Change Master Page: http://ranaictiu-technicalblog.blogspot.com/2009/10/sharepoint-dynamically-change-master.html) and I implemented IHttpModule, added it to GAC, modified web.config(safecontrol, httpmodule, module)
It works good! But I found some problems
1.Never catch the PreInit event for publishing pages
2."/_Layouts/RedirectPage.aspx" page occurred error
3.ContextMenu did not work
