Extending LOB system with SharePoint

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I'm extending an LOB enquiry system with SharePoint.

My design has enquiries as a list assiciated with the relevent subsite (regonal office). When adding an item to this list (approx 100 per month), a web service call needs to be made to the LOB system to create the enquiry in that system (passing in a couple of fields from the list). This will return the LOB identifier which I will then store in the SharePoint list.

At a later point, when viewing this enquiry, another web service call will be made to retrieve information from LOB system for a particular enquiry.

BCS seems logical for the second requirement, but how about the first? Is that feasable using BCS? Any pointers? Any other suggestions, I can't see this as being an unusual desire. surely lots of SharePoint systems need to integrate with external systems, I've just never worked on one myself. Any web links for someone who's done something similar themselves?

Thanks

SharePoint Capacity Planning Tool and system Center Capacity Planner

Hi, It seems like we cannot use the SharePoint Capacity Planning Tool anymore. I downloaded this SharePoint Capacity Planning Tool but its prerequisite system Center Capacity Planner(SCCP 2007) has been discontinued, as per this URL, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/systemcenter/ff575746.aspx  So when I try to install SharePoint Capacity Planning tool, it ask me to install SCCP V2 first. Please share if somebidy has a copy SCCP V2 or do we have any other alternate tool that can be used for SharePoint Capacity planning? Thanks, San

Sharepoint site collections accessible only by system account

I I have setup a VM to start palying with SP development, everything running under administrator (sql, sharepoint services....). After succefully creating the root on port 80 and a couple of site collections, whenever I shoot IE http://mymoss or any othe site collection, I go right away to the web site without the usual authentification dialog box. On the right jand side, I see I am logged in as "System account". When I try to "sign in as a different user", enter domain\administrator, who is owner, the dialog box just keeps coming back and I can not log. . Thanks in advance

Can´t set up local system accounts as service accounts in sharepoint 2010

HI I made an inplace upgrade to sharepoint 2010. I want to setup performance point services. but it doesn´t allow me to set a local system account as the application pool account for performance point services application. It doesn´t allow me to register a new account it says The specified user account "domain\username" is a local account. Local accounts should only be used in stand alone mode. The application pool account for the site collection that I upgraded is a local system account so I don´t get it? I tried this http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/fromthefield/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=112 However the upgrade fails after this. Is there any way that I do the inplace upgrade and it would allow me to use local system accounts has service accounts? Without Active directory? Thanks

How to change the System Account into Domain Administrator account in Sharepoint?

I'm attaching the captured image from the Central Admin of our Sharepoint Server. (http://www.experts-exchange.com/images/346242/Central-Admin.jpg) As you can see from the Central Admin image, the user account shown is "System Account", in whereas I logged in as our Domain Administrator. Then when you check it's info from My Settings, the details from the captured image System Account Info was shown. ( http://www.experts-exchange.com/images/346243/System-Account-Info.jpg) How can I change it as be DOMAIN\Administrator & not SHAREPOINT\system or System Account? Please advise...

Putting SharePoint 2007 Server on another system

I have a production 2007 SharePoint Server running on a server. I am able to re-image the whole server into another system for testing and training purpose. Everything works fine on that system except SharePoint. Some reasons are because the IP address has changed and the URL has also changed. How do I access the SharePoint Server on the new system? I tried typing the IP number of the new system, but it doesn't work. I would appreciate very much if someone can tell me how I can bring the SharePoint server back to 'live' on the new system with a new IP number. I can't use the same URL name because the real one is in production and it is on the DNS. Thanks.

RBS Maintainer not cleanup files in file system (SharePoint 2010)

Here's my environment:   Server #1: SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, RBS enabled Server #2: SharePoint Foundation 2010, RBS installed I setup RBS according to this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee663474.aspx successfully. And I can see the files are storing in NTFS file system instead of database. And then I'm configuring RBS Maintainer according to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff943566.aspx . But it doesn't seem working as expected. I deleted the file from SharePoint Document Library and emptied recycle bin, even in site collection recycle bin. And even I delete the whole site collection. The RBS Maintainer doesn't delete the files in file system. I've updated the following rbs config on my content database for test: exec mssqlrbs.rbs_sp_set_config_value 'garbage_collection_time_window', 'time 00:00:00'; exec mssqlrbs.rbs_sp_set_config_value 'delete_scan_period ', 'time 00:00:00'; exec mssqlrbs.rbs_sp_set_config_value 'orphan_scan_period', 'time 00:00:00'; Maintainer output after I deleted the file, emptied end user recycle bin and site collection recycle bin : C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Remote Blob Storage 10.50\Maintainer>"C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Remote Blob Storage 10.50\Maintainer\Microsoft.Data.SqlRemot eBlobs.Maintainer.exe" -Connect

Cannot set a user column to SHAREPOINT\system by workflow?

I created a list item programatically. So the workflow assoicated with the item will not start automatically. I started the workflow then by codes.

However, in this case, the workflow can not update a user column of an item in another list to the modifier of the item created by codes. The modifier is SHAREPOINT\system.

I can do this through SharePoint UI, the user will change to {domain}\Administrator automatically after I put SHAREPOINT\system. So I have to modify my workflow to assign administrator explictly in this case.

Two questions:

Is it a bug of spd workflow? both SHAREPOINT\system and {domain}\Administrator has full control to all the lists.

Or is there anyway to specify who starts the workflow programatically?

Thanks,

Downloading a document from a sharepoint site to local file system, copy web service returns null

Hi Guys,
I am trying to get this done for the last 2 days and I am still banging my head to the wall.
All I need to do is to download files from my sharepoint site library that uses integrated windows authentication. I was using copy webservice : getItem method to accomplish this.

CopyService.GetItem(copySource, out myFieldInfoArray, out myByteArray);

Problem : myByteArray is always returned as NULL

Note: I have tried the same with another site that uses forms authentication but the result was the same (NULL !!)

This is my code:

CopyService.

Copy copy = new CopyService.Copy();

System Requirements for Sharepoint Designer 2010

Can I run Sharepoint Designer on an HP mini with only 1GB RAM and Windows Home Starter edition, or will I need to upgrade the RAM and/or OS?

Not sure what OS or RAM is required, also probably should ask how much disk space is required as well.

Not trying to do anything custom, just design a basic Sharepoint site with the server end done by a hosting service.
