validation control in datalist error

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 16, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

hi guys,

i'm having some problem with my validation control that i put inside my datalist template. the purpose of the validation is to ensure that user enter only integer at the textbox inside the datalist. however, if there is more that 1 record/row at the datalist and i enter the integer only in one of the textbox at a specific row, the validation control ask me to enter a value for the other datalist record when i press the button. so my question is, is there a way to make sure that the validation control only check the specific textbox at the specific row?? i tried editing the properties of the validation control but i cannot find anything that is relevant...

Your help is greatly appreciated!!

Thank you in advance

Adding New Error Message to Validation Summary Control

 In the code behind based on a condition i want to add a error message to the Validation Control.

 I tried the below.

 'Call function to add error message.
protected void AddErrorToValidationSummary(string errorMessage)
 CustomValidator custVal = new CustomValidator();
 custVal.IsValid = false;
 custVal.ErrorMessage = errorMessage;
 custVal.EnableClientScript = false;
 custVal.Display = ValidatorDisplay.None;

urgent: datalist validation error

hi guys,

i'm having error for my validation control... i'm using both the validation control and my own code for the validation of the input entered to the same textbox.  i added another validation code at the code behind and it seems that my validation control now doesnt work. it can check if the user does not enter any value or enter a non-integer value but then it will automatically go to my validation code at the code behind.

the error that i get is this "Conversion from string "" to type 'Double' is not valid." when i tried changing the string to type double, it said that "input string was not in a correct format"

below are my validation code

    Public Sub addToCart_cmd(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As DataListCommandEventArgs)
        If CType(e.CommandSource, Button).CommandName = "add" Then
            lblError.Text = ""

            Dim selectedSessionID As String = (CType(e.Item.FindControl("lblSessionID"), Label)).Text
            Dim selectedDate As String = (CType(e.Item.FindControl("lblDates"), Label)).Text
            Dim availablePax As String = (CType(e.Item.FindControl("lblAvailability"), Label)).Text
            Dim totalPax As String = (CType(e.Item.FindControl("txtPax2"), Tex

Server side validation of Fileupload control not working

I've tried this method in my code behind to try and validate that the Fileupload control has a file or not. I get the error message the the event "Server Validate" cannot be found. Can anyone tell why? Thanks.

Public Sub CustomValidator1_ServerValidate(ByVal source As Object, ByVal args As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ServerValidateEventArgs) Handles CustomValidator1.ServerValidate

' Get file name

        Dim uploadAvatar As FileUpload = DirectCast(AdvertisementForm.FindControl("uploadAvatar"), FileUpload)

        Dim UploadFileName As String = uploadAvatar.PostedFile.FileName

        If UploadFileName = "" Then

Custom Control Design-Time SiteMap Provider Error

Greetings - I was referred here by MSDN forums hope this is the right place -

I have a custom control (:WebControl) that renders web.sitemap in a specific way. While it runs error free and produces the expected result, at Design-Time it complains

Error Creating Control - MyControl The provider 'AspNetXmlSiteMapProvider' specified for the defaultProvider does not exist in the providers collection.

I have discovered that the error is cause by this line of code:

string div = string.Format("<div class='{0}' id='{1}'>{2}</div>", this.CssClass, this.ID.ToString(), EnumerateNodesRecursive(SiteMap.RootNode, level));

or more specifically, by the reference to SiteMap.RootNode - I am not clear what is missing thoough because I have configured the SiteMapProvider in web.config as this:

        <add name="AspNetXmlSiteMapProvider"
             type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider, System.Web, Version=2.0.3600.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"

"Type ASP.x is not defined" error for dynamic user control when publishing updateable

I have a user control (ContainerCtrl) which programmatically instantiates another user control (SimpleCtrl) in OnLoad. It builds and runs fine, but when I publish it I get the error "error BC30002: Type 'ASP.SimpleCtrl' is not defined." (If I publish without the "updateable" option there's no error, but I need the site to be updateable.)

I assume this has to do with the particulars of how the assembly(ies) are built for the different compiler options. My question is, how can I get it to work properly for "updateable" publishing?

VS 2008 / .NET 3.5 sp1

The code follows (web.config is the default from Visual Studio).

Many thanks, Dave

<%@ Control Language="VB" ClassName="SimpleCtrl" CodeFile="SimpleCtrl.ascx.vb" Inherits="_SimpleCtrl" %>

    Simple control

Partial Class _SimpleCtrl
    Inherits UserControl

    'Nothing to see here.

End Class

Custom Control Design view error

I have created a custom control from scratch and it works fine as in you can build the project that uses it and it works fine at runtime. Problem is when you go to design view the control shows an error in the place of where the control should be rendered.

Error: '<SomeValue>' Could not be set to '<SomeProperty>'

This shows up on all my custom set properties. These properties are created as basic as possible. I can give the properties values in Source view and run the app just fine. I can even add a Onclick event. If I don't set any custom properties the control will render fine in Design view. It's only when I set a value to a custom property.

Property Code Example:

public string Text
                string ret = "";
                object obj = ViewState["Text"];
                if (obj != null)
                    ret = obj.ToString();
                return ret;
                ViewState["Text"] = value;

I've even removed the Category and Description tags with no difference.

I don't know if what I said makes sens, but I hope it

Localize framework message from xml validation error

I need to validate an XML through XSD. I am using XMLReader (with XmlReaderSettings and

Validation_EventHandler to do it). Depend on users preference, I would like to change the output message generated by  Validation_EventHandler in french or english.

Any idea on how to perform this?

Validation Control Query

I've read that if you put a validation control on a page it performs the validation on the client AND server side.

My question is, if you've got a button's click event and you put code in there that puts submitted data into a database, how will the validation controls stop the data being inserted?

Is validation simply performed before anything else, then the page just stops?

BDC Column validation error in DIP

I have created a content type which has a BDC column along with other columns.

This content type is used in a document library. When the user adds a new document of this content type the system is asking for the extra data required for this content type and I am using AJAX to store data in the BDC Column fields.

The adding process goes fine and I am able to check in the document

Now if I check out the document and open it to edit it, a message is shown on the top of the document saying ' Required Properties - To save to the server, correct the invalid or missing required properties' along with 'Edit Properties' button.

When I click on 'Edit Properties' DIP is opening up and the invalid column is not highlighted. After some trial and error I found out that the problem is with the BDC column. When the cut the data from BDC column and paste it again and click on 'Check Item' the error disappears and allows me to check in the document.

Did anyone face any problem like this before. If so please help me out

Also I am new to BDC so please bear with me if I am missing something obvious.

Rejected by custom validation error & ItemAdding

I believe this topic was discussed before in this forum, but I couldn't find it using the exact error I receive: "operation for file.doc was rejected by custom validation on the server"

When I try to add a new word document to my doc library, Word displays this error instead of my custom error message. I set properties.Cancel=true in ItemAdding of my EventHandler, because my validation fails.

Is there any way to display user properties.ErrorMessage instead of this generic error message?

Using tabs from the AjaxControlToolkit causes error: ...control contains code blocks (i.e. <% ... %>

I'm getting the error:

The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e. <% ... %>).

When attempting to add the tabs from the AjaxControlToolkit.  A little background..Theres an existing aspx page in a microsite which used the accordion control and the tabbed control ...I need to modify this page to use a different masterpage.

The original site was .Net Framework 2.0 and the page in question used AjaxControlToolkit 1.0. which I manually installed originally.  Some of the site has been further developed using the .Net Framework 3.5.  (Come with AjaxControlToolkit) Now I have come to update this aspx page and I get the error above.

I have narrowed the down to the TabContainer (I think)  Does anyone have any experience with this sort of problem?  Also what version of the AjaxControlToolkit should be with the .Net Framework 3.5? I have 1.0.20229.20821.

I also tried to browse to the AjaxControlToolkit.dll to add the tools to the tool box as they're missing... thinking this may be an indicator as to why it wasn't working. I get the error: 'There was an error loading types from assembly C:\inetpub\wwwroot\project\Bin\AjaxControlToolkit.dll Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Extensions. Version=

Binding of complex entity turns into validation error

consider classic example: Product and Category editing Product in dropdown Id of Category is selected - Category mapped as object with all fields empty except Id when submitting Product edit form - validation gives an error: "Category name is required" (I have Required attribute on Category Name property) How deal with such errors if I want to use built-in validation (if (!ModelState.IsValid))? Writing custom data binder which would fill all such id-only-objects with values from database comes to mind.upd: I did small research of mvc code and found out that validation happens before binding - so this solution would't work. Do you have any other solutions for this problem?

Validation Error

I have a strange validation error that I sure can't figure out. I'd ignore it, but I'm ending up with a ">" char as the first char rendered in the page. Anybody see anything wrong with this markup? The validation error seems to be on the very first "<table>" tag (in bold). Validation control half disapears in CollapsibelPanel

Hi all,I have a textbox sitting at the bottom of a collapsible panel which has a  RequiredFieldValidator sitting underneath that. If a user tries to submit the form without filling in this textbox then the RequiredFieldValidator generates a little "Required" box beneath the textbox.The trouble is that the panel doesn't resize propely and only the top of the validation warning box is visible so the message isn't legible.I tried adding some margin-bottom to the div that contains the textbox and validator to ensure the space was already there but the moment the validation box appears the collapsible panel automatically resizes so the bottom of the panel meets the bottom of the textbox, ignoring the prior margin.Apart from moving the validation box, does anyone know how I can get the collapsible panel to resize correctly?ThanksVanlightly
