SQL 2008 Express and Windows 7 64b Pro

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64bit w/ all updates

I have a previous install of VS 2008 Pro that I got from my school's MSDNAA website which also installs a copy of SQL 2005 Server and the Windows SDK. I've tried several different methods to install the SQL 2008 Express to no avail, including but not limited to completely uninstalling VS2008 and all of its associated sub programs (that I know about). The only thing I know of that I have not tried is to format the system drive and install XP.

With SQL2005 The SQL2008 errors out telling me that it will not install with an occurrence of SQL2005 installed.

With VS installed (after SQL2005 is removed) the SQL installation errrors out telling me that I must update VS to SP1.

With VS removed the SQL2008 installation tells me that .NET 3.5 SP1 is required (system says 3.5 compact is installed). When I try to install either the bootstrap or full versions of .NET 3.5 SP1, the extraction completes and then the program process disapears.

I'm hoping that I might find someone else that's already had similar problems and can provide a list of steps to take that I might be able to get SQL 2008 Server Express functioning on this win7 machine.

Windows 7, SQL Server 2008 Express & VWD 2008 Express Setup Problems

Hi I have Windows 7 Home Premium, and Visual Web Developer Express 2008 (which came with SP1) installed. SQL Server 2008 Express never worked - Windows 7 won't allow the Management Studio to be installed and VWD was asking for SQL Server 2005.  Looking on the web, I found advice to try the 32 bit version of SQL Server instead.  This would work with VWD, apparently.  I referred to these instructions (http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/6/3/163A851B-D956-42E9-B426-F5C0EBE6B654/ReleaseNotes.htm) and used the latest links and instructions, but I could not install SQL Server at all - apparently something to do with WOW64... This has been going on for a WHILE and I'm going nuts.  I am reluctant to uninstall VWD and start again, because I had to manually fix a few things, and now it's working...  PLEASE can someone tell me of a working configuration, I have read SO MUCH advice on this, and none works, including those release notes (unless I missed something) :(

The Windows account doman\user does not exist and cannot be provisioned as a SQL system administrator
Error result: -2068578304

domain/user is a domain administrator and also a local administrator and is the currently logged in user.  This failure is happening as part of A Citrix XenApp 6.0 configuration which was started as an Administrator

A Google search for
"The Windows account" "does not exist and cannot be provisioned as a SQL system administrator"
Came up with absolutely nothing.

A Google search for -2068578304 failed to find anything, which did not surprise me.

-2068578304 translates into hex as 84B40000.

A Google search for 84B40000

Comes up with a fair few different textual descriptions with the same error code, which I am wading through.

Any help would be welcome.  I am also asking my friends at Citrix.

With thanks in advance.

Windows XP, Visual Studio Express 2010 and SQL Server 2008 Express - How can I save modified columns

Hi,

I am using c# in VS 2010 Express. I have a MDF database that I connect to through "Database Explorer". Database Explorer will not let me SAVE columns that I have modified. As I know in SQL Server 2008 full edition you can change the setting "Prevent saving changes that require table recreation" in Management Console to prevent this. I haven't got Management Console and can't see it in install.

How do I change this setting if I haven't got management console? Is it in Registry or Config File.

Thanks.

Usage of SQL Express from Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition (64-bit) to Windows 7

Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 was being used along with SQL Express for website development on the Operating System, Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition of Intel Xeon CPU @ 2.13 GHz (2 Processors) containing 12 GB RAM with 64-bit Operating System. Website was developed along with the databases of SQL Express with the help of Visual Studio. Whether the developed website along with the databases may be used on the Operating System, Windows 7 of 64-bit? The website will used within Intranet. Which Operating System and configuration to be used for the Intranet Website? Kindly guide me.

Windows 7 x64, SQL Express 2008 - Problems attach Northwind database

Hi,

I've attached Northwind many times before, but seem to be unable to do so in Windows 7. I tried attaching from Visual Studio, using osql, and finally (after many hours) installed SQL Express 2008 / SQL Management Express 2008. All methods failed. The last failure (using SME 2008 Attach Databases) is sometimes:

Unable to open the physical file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\northwnd.mdf". Operating system error 2: "2(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105)". (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

and other times:

Database 'Northwind' cannot be upgraded because it is read-only or has read-only files. Make the database or files writeable, and rerun recovery. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3415)

I have, of course, verified countless times that the files are NOT read-only.

Could any please explain what could be happening here? All suggestions much appreciated.

many thanks,

Danny

SQL Server 2008 Express R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64

I installed a SQL Server 2008 Express R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 machine on 15th february 2010.

Today I can't start the "SQL Server" windows service. I have tried manually, but the error is:

"Window could not start the Sql Server (SQLEXPRESS) on Local computer"

After trying to start the  the "SQL Server" windows service, I have read on the Event viewer the following error:

"SQL Server evaluation period has expired".

After trying to launch the SQL Management studio Express 2008 I have read this erroe on a pop-up windows:

"Evaluation period has expired."

I though that the express edition was free. I need only to register or to buy?

How can I buy?

I am in hurry. Please let me know! Thank you very much.

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express - installation on Windows Server 2008

Hi,

We are trying to install VWD 2010 on a windows 2008 server. We already have installed the 2008 version as well as SQL 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. The Web Platform installer is not installing VWD 2010 however.

At first it notified us that the OS does not allow it, after running tons of updates on the OS (some of which failed) it is still not doing it, not even donwloading it. The latest message simply asked us to post the error on the forum.

Has anybody had similar experiences? If so, how was it solved?

Cheers,

D

New Windows 7 compuer with SQL Server 2008 Express - permission issues

I avoided Vista because of the overbearing security issues but I put Windows 7 Ultimate on my new computer. I really like it so far except for 2 big issues. I won’t go into VPN nightmare I’m having here but the other is that for the first time ever I’m having lots of SQL Server permission issues. I’m running Windows 7 Ultimate, I run SSMS as an administrator how can I get full rights on my SQL Server as I had in XP where I could create files anywhere?

The first issue I had was that I couldn’t install the AdventureWorkLT DB because I didn’t have create permissions (that is bizarre default) but I got around that by granting Full Control to the Data folder.

Now I’m having another problem that I cannot solve. I cannot even export a SQL Query to a file. I get an “unrecoverable error” popup. Here is what is in event viewer but if click the link in event viewer the suggestions of how to fix it does not work.

Additional information:
- OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Edition 64bit
- I have no other SQL instances present on every install (I always uninstall it first and clean up the residue files on C:\Program files (and the x86 one)\Microsoft SQL Server\)
- I have Visual Studio Express 2010 installed
- I fundamentally require only SQL Server service and SQL Server Management Studio, but I've tried all installer on the Microsoft website just in case one is working.

sql server 2008 r2 express and windows features

For some of the ASP.NET features to work with SQL Server 2005 some "Windows Features" had to be turned on (list below). My question is this the same for SQL Server 2008 Express SP1 and SQL Server Express R2?

Features: ( Common HTTP Features) - Static Content; Default Document; Http redirection; Directory browsing. ( Application development) - ASP.NET; ISAPI Extension; ISAPI Filters. (Security) Windows Authentication. (IIS Management Tools) IIS Metabase; IIS 6 WMI.

SQL EXPRESS 2008 replication issue with sync media center on windows 7

Dear all,

I am not able to configure the system in order to make it solve merge conflicts interactively (that is with the help of the user).

The configuration is the following one:

PC-A: sql server 2008. With one the DB "myDB" published for replication.

PC-B: sql server 2008 r2 express. With two replicas of "myDB" on the same instance of sql express: "myDB1Replica" and "myDB2Replica"

The two replicas simulate two users that change the content of the same record so that I can test how the system behaves in case of conflicts.

Everything runs smoothly if "Resolve conflicts automatically" is set... but I get this error message when "Resolve conflicts interactively (only applies to articles that support interactive resolution)" is selected.

Error: The merge process failed to get correct information about the Interactive Resolver component from the registry. Verify that the registry exists and that the path is correct.

Of course this has been enabled on the article (from PC-A on sql server) and on the subscription (from both PC-B sql express and syncro center) as well.

I have been searching everywhere and found nothing! Any help would be really appreciated! I really need to run the interactive conflict resolution
