Character counter with Editor control?

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 24, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Has anyone made this work?  I'm trying to implement a character counter that counts the total text and markup in the Content property of the Editor.  It's easy to do with a button control and feeding Editor.Content.Length to a label but that doesn't give the user a running count.

I tried several javascript character counters, including this one:

<script type="text/javascript">

      function pageLoad() {
      }

      maxL = 255;
      var bName = navigator.appName;
      function taLimit(taObj) {
          if (taObj.value.length == maxL) return false;
          return true;
      }

      function taCount(taObj, Cnt) {
          objCnt = createObject(Cnt);
          objVal = taObj.value;
          if (objVal.length > maxL) objVal = objVal.substring(0, maxL);
          if (objCnt) {
              if (bName == "Netscape") {
                  objCnt.textContent = maxL - objVal.length;
              }
              else { objCnt.innerText = maxL - objVal.length; }
          }
          return true;
      }
      function createObject(objId) {
          if (document.getElementById) return document.getElementById(objId);
          else if (document.layers) return eval("document." + objId);
          else if (document.all) return eval("document.all." + objId

Editor Control fails to load

Hi,

I have installed VWD2010

created a new website (Build Target 3.5)

I then made a reference to the AjaxControlToolkit.dll where it created a new Bin folder and added a whole load of folders below plus the dll file apprears.

I've also installed the AJAX tool bar where all the Ajax controls are available.

Then on a new page I added the Editor control which rendered the page as the following

<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="_Default" %>

<%@ Register assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" namespace="AjaxControlToolkit.HTMLEditor" tagprefix="cc1" %>

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head runat="server">
    <title></title>
</head>
<body>
    <form id="form1" runat="server">
    <div>

        <cc1:Editor ID="Editor1" runat="server" />

    </div>
    </form>
</body>

Unhandled exception in XAML editor from control that accesses database. - "System.Data.SqlServerCe.S

Hello,

Im having a bit of difficulty with some WPF/C#/SQL Server CE code.

I have a WPF User Control with the following line of code in the constructor:

MyDatabase database = new
 MyDatabase("Data Source=|DataDirectory|\\MyDatabase.sdf"
 );

where MyDatabase is a class generated using SQLMetal.exe from MyDatabase.sdf.

When I added this control to other controls, the application runs fine and I'm able to access my database. When I try to edit these parent controls,  the XAML editor throws the following error:

>System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException
>The database file cannot be found. Check the path to the database. [ Data Source = D:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\MyDatabase.sdf ]

Why does the XAML editor redirect my DataDirectory to "D:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\" and why does the XAML editor execute my database access code?

How can I fix this so I can use this control in a XAML editor?

Thanks,

Greg S.

Problem with property editor of a web user control

Hi,

I created an asp.net user control with a property named 'TabList' , the property is visible when I place my control on a page, the default editor for this property was a simple text box, but I needed a DropDownList for editing the TabList property of my control, so I added following code to implement it:

<Category("Navigation Bar"), Editor(GetType(DropDownList), GetType(System.Drawing.Design.UITypeEditor)), Description("List of Tabs"), DefaultValue("SHISHIR WAHI")> Public Property TabList() As String
        Get
            Return _tablist
        End Get

        Set(ByVal value As String)
            _tablist = value
        End Set
    End Property

The Category() and DefaultValue() are working fine but Editor() and Description() are not, what could be the problem?

Please help.

How do I add multiple instances of the wiki editor control to a page?

(Sharepoint 2007)

I have a SharePoint wiki site and the home page has become a bit cluttered. Using SharePoint Designer 2007 I have figured out how to edit the home page of the wiki site and I have created a row of tabs with associated content pieces. It's the usual thing, click on a tab, hide one div, show another. What I would like to do is to be able to edit each div's content as a separate wiki page. Is this possible? I currently have the SharePoint:FormField and SharePoint:ListFieldIterator tags commented out.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Sharepoint 2010 Custom Field Types & Field Properties ( Editor Control )

Hi,

I've been searching this forum and all over the web for a working example of how to implement a Editor Control with a Sharepoint 2010 custom field type.

The only documentation on MSDN mentions the implementation of IFieldEditor. There are no propper examples of how to implement properties on custom field types.

All I could find on MSDN regarding this issue was :

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb802857.aspx

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms472859.aspx

Has anyone done anything simmilar and know of a propper example of how to implement it?

Thanks

Adding Dynamic Rows in ASP.NET GridView Control with TextBoxes and with Delete functionality

In my previous examples, I have demonstrated on how to add dynamic rows in GridView control with TextBoxes and how to save the values into the database. Now, seems that most of the developers are asking if how to add a delete functionality with it. So in this example, I'm going to show on how to delete a certain row in the dynamic GridView with TextBoxes.

Accessing the different controls inside a GridView control

how we can access a particular control which resides inside a GridView control. In this article I will show you how you can access different controls inside a GridView control. We will see how we can access a TextBox control, a DropDownList control and a ListBox control. If you are working with ASP.NET 1.X then you might want to check out my article Accessing Different Controls Inside a DataGrid.

In-Depth look at the GridView Control

In the last article we looked at few of the new controls available in Asp.net 2.0. We also talked about Grid View Control which has replaced the Asp.net 1.1 DataGrid control for good. In this article we will examine more features of the Grid View control. In this article we will see some of the common operations that can be performed using the GridView control. Apart from these operations there are many more functions that can be performed on the control and which we will see in the later articles

ASP.NET repeater control - databind with style

even used the inline editing features, which I at the time thought was the coolest way possible to write ASP.NET code ( I managed to write code to hide all other rows and only show the current one - the row being edited). With a nice looking EditTemplate it looked indeed very slick but it really turned into giant and hard to manage code behind files.

Creating Paging for a Repeater Control

A common question is "How do I implement paging within a Repeater?" Although the beauty of the Repeater control is its flexibility, you're on your own for building most functions. ASP.NET 2.0 has included some new controls that provide paging, as does the DataGrid in ASP.NET 1.1. However, this tip shows you how to roll your own paging for a simple data viewer.

Using TemplateFields in the GridView Control

The GridView is composed of a set of fields that indicate what properties from the DataSource are to be included in the rendered output along with how the data will be displayed. The simplest field type is the BoundField, which displays a data value as text. Other field types display the data using alternate HTML elements. The CheckBoxField, for example, renders as a checkbox whose checked state depends on the value of a specified data field; the ImageField renders an image whose image source is based upon a specified data field. Hyperlinks and buttons whose state depends on an underlying data field value can be rendered using the HyperLinkField and ButtonField field types.
