sp_addpublication throwing Could not find stored procedure

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I ran in to a strange problem yesterday that I still haven't resolved. I moved a replicated database from a SQL 2000 server to a 2008 server using backup/restore and when doing the restore I used the restore wizard (didn't have my script library available) and I checked the "preserve replication setting" (WITH KEEP_REPLICATION) checkbox without the distributor being configured first. This was obviously a mistake on my part and nothing worked as I had hoped. I then removed all replication related stuff using the "Disable distribution and publishing"-wizard and everything was removed, including the publications that came with the old database that I restored. As far as I know I was back to a cleen slate.

Then I configured the distributor again without a hitch but when I tried to create the publication I got a weird error. I had scripted the creation of the publication and when running the exec sp_addpublication I got the following error:

Msg 2812, Level 16, State 62, Procedure sp_MSrepl_addpublication, Line 1357
Could not find stored procedure '.

Has anyone seen this before...? I've searched both this site and googled but can't seem to find anything. The database is not mirrored and the database is SQL 2008 SP1 Standard.

DTA doesn't find referenced table form stored procedure with SP_executesql

Using the SQL2008R2 profiler and DTA connected to a SQL2000 server. I created a tuning tracefile with profiler for a certain db on the sql2000 server because I need to tune 1 table in the database referenced by 3 parameterized stored procedures which built a query depending on the parameters and is executed with an sp_executesql statement. When I run the DTA loading the tracefile I see the exec stored procedure events with it's parameters and the message Event does not reference any tables. And that's it. The DTA generates no Recommendatioin at all. How can I get the exact sql statements in the tracefile so the DTA can do what he needs to do? Regards

BIDS 2005 cannot find Stored Procedure

I have read how to do this in multiple places but my report is not able to use a stored procedure for retrieving data. When I select command type 'stored procedure' to populate my dataset, and then switch to the GUI query designer, I only see a partial list of system SPs, not my user defined SPs. My SP does return a single dataset.If I try to manually use the SP, with or without doublequotes and EXEC, the report designer simply tells me that the SP cannot be found.

Could not find stored procedure 'sys.sp_MScreate_tempgenhistorytable'.

I'm getting the following error when initializing a merge replication subscription: Source:  Microsoft SQL Native Client Number:  2812 Message: Could not find stored procedure 'sys.sp_MScreate_tempgenhistorytable'. Both publisher and subscriber are version 9.0.4053 Scripted the missing proc from publisher and ran create proc (using sa credentials) on subscriber but I get an error message: Msg 2760, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_MScreate_tempgenhistorytable, Line 45 The specified schema name "sys" either does not exist or you do not have permission to use it. Kind of stuck right now, any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Patrick

I kept getting this using ASP.NET Administration Tool/Security tab:

There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.

The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: Could not find stored procedure 'dbo.aspnet_CheckSchemaVersion'.

Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Cannot find execute any query, stored procedure not found even if it is there

Hey guys,

I am getting frustrated with this problem, I dont know what i did, but now I cannot execute any stored procedured when I could last time.

When I use my asp.net application to run the query, it finds the stored procedure but when I execute it is sql management studio it says it cannot find the stored procedure even though it is there.

I tried to execute other procedures and the samething happens. Even when I try a simple query it says it cannot find the table

I could execute the query if i placed Use [databasename] in front, but even with this, I cannot execute stored procedures.

does any1 know how to fix this?

Send Email from SQL Server Express Using a CLR Stored Procedure

One of the nice things about SQL Server is the ability to send email using T-SQL. The downside is that this functionality does not exist in SQL Server Express. In this tip I will show you how to build a basic CLR stored procedure to send email messages from SQL Server Express, although this same technique could be used for any version of SQL Server.

If you have not yet built a CLR stored procedure, please refer to this tip for what needs to be done for the initial setup.

Inserting rows via stored procedure and under certain conditions

I'm using Dynamic Data with Entity Framework in VS2010.

Let's say my table has these fields:

PersonID (FK)
LocationID (FK)

Hypothetical scenario (it's easier for me to explain this way, so just bear with me for now)... But let's say each row in the table represents "how many items were sold by such-and-such employee at such-and-such location," where location and person are foreign keys which are referencing other tables.  Basically, there should be no more than a ONE row which has a particular combination of Person and Location.  Makes sense?

So, when inserting new rows using my Dynamic Data app, the insert form displays editable fields for Person (dropdown), Location (dropdown), and Items Sold (textbox).  How do I prevent users from inserting another row into the table containing an already-existing combination of Person and Location?   How do I displaying useful feedback to them in the event that they DO attempt to do this?

I have several thoughts about this, but since I'm new to Dynamic Data, I'm not sure which way to go.  For example:

Option 1:  Use "cascading dropdowns" approach in the insert form and only pull in the "allowed" combinations of the two dropd

Creating A Stored Procedure Which Searches Team Names

I'm have on my web page a text search box which I want users to type in there favourite football team and this will display a gridview of the teams with the replica shirts I offer.

This is where I thought about creating a stored procedure to carry out this task.

I looked online for ideas but I not found anything as yet.

If anyone done anything similar to my request please let me know.

Sort by gridview SortExpression parameter via Stored Procedure

I have a gridview that calls data via a stored procedure.  I am unable to enable the gridview columns to be sortable. I need to set the parameter in the Stored Procedure, can someone help me with this?

Here is my gridview:

<asp:GridView ID="AllUsersGrid" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" DataKeyNames="UserName"
                        GridLines="Vertical" Width="900px" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" AllowSorting="True"
                        SelectedRowStyle-Height="30px" CellPadding="4" BackColor="White">
                            <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Full Name" SortExpression="lastname">
                                    <asp:Label ID="DisplayName" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("firstname").ToString() & " " & Eval("lastname").ToString() %>' />
                            <asp:BoundField HeaderText="User Name" DataField="UserName" />

Stored procedure generator?

Hi, I am looking for a stored procedure generator with full source code(C#) compatible with Visual studio 2010. I want to create my custom stored procedure code. Please send some link. Regards, ap.

Create stored procedure from asp.net

we are creating a custom report tool, which could be used for generate the report as per end user's needs. In that we are providing an option as user could create a query and procedure as well.

In sql server we can use "EXEC" function for execute dynamic query.

Could anyone help me for create the dynamic query in Oracle?

I just tried with "execute immediate", which would throws error as

"insufficient privileges".

Please help me.
