Partition set up in transactional replication SQL Server 2008

Currently The partition strategy with switching works fine on a non replication enviornment. But I know there any few steps that needed to be considered before setting transaction replication.
I know we have to set 'allow_partition_switch' and replicate_partition_switch to true on the publication.
Inspite of setting them my replication fails while doing partition slide saying 'The <archived table> is not found'.
Any help is appreciated

Transactional replication - SQL SERVER 2008 R2

We are planning to upgrade my DEV,QA and Production environments from SQLSERVER 2000 to SQL SERVER 2008 R2. And planning to implement the Transactional Replication in SQL SERVER 2008 for Production environment.

We have frequent releases to Production like monthly once. In those rleases we might be modifying the articles  (TABLE, VIEWS,SP,FUNCTIONS and TRIGGERS). Could you please let us know the best way to implement the Transactional REPLICATION and pre-requisites for this process.

We had faced some problems in SL SERVER 2000 for Transaction Replication. When ever we are using any ALTER TABLE scripts in this replication. The replication has broken.

Could you please provide the best practices if you have?

Thanks in advance

Sql Server 2008 R2 Replication

Dears, I am make a testing environment before implementing it into real world. I have 3 servers SQL 2008 R2, i configured 1 Publisher, 2 Subcribers with a merged replication. Everything is Ok. However, i have an ID field on Publisher which is autonumber(Start by 1, increment by 1). When I try to add new record on publisher, it takes it 1 by 1 i.e. 1-2-3.... But i try to add it on subscriber it starts with 20,000 i.e. 20001, 20002. I think this is logical for SQL, but can i define this number on the subscriber? So it will start on 200,000 for example? Another question, In LAN i can connect the subscriber to the publisher, it will connect to it directly, since it is broadcast. But in WAN environment how can the subscriber detects the publisher??? Your reply is highly appreciated, Thanks in advance,

Replication between SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008

Hi,    We were using SQL Server Transactional Replication between two SQL Server 2005 servers. Now we are going to upgrade the Publisher server to SQL Server 2008, Distributor Server remains as SQL Server 2005.     Can anyone let me know what is the challenges we need to face when configuring Replication between SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008. Replication Method - Transactional Replication Distributor/Subscriber - SQL Server 2005 Publisher     -  SQL Server 208 Regards, Fazlu.

SQL Server 2008 Agent Fails to start in a Win 2008 Cluster

When I try to bring SQLAGENT Online, I get the following errors: EventID:53 [sqagtres] StartResourceService: Failed to start SQLSERVERAGENT service.  CurrentState: 1 [sqagtres] OnlineThread: ResUtilsStartResourceService failed (status 435) [sqagtres] OnlineThread: Error 435 bringing resource online.   I just did a fresh SQL Cluster install as well.  When I installed the cluster, the service account was good to go.  I cant figure out what is going on.  SQL Server Engine starts fine.  Any ideas?

named instance sql server 2008 install on cluster

I have a production two-node cluster with sql server 2008 sp1 cu7 running over windows server 2008 sp2. If I were to install a new named instance on this live environment, would it impair the default sql server instance functionality? I'm not referring to processor/io while the install is in progress. My question specifically is would the install process by its nature bring down the default instance. I'm pretty sure it won't, but don't see any documentation that would confirm this. thanks.

Upgrade SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008 in Cluster--Recomendations

Using SQL Server Replication for SQL Server 2005 and 2008

I have an ASP.NET application that uses replication, and uses the RMO DLLs to do this. I initially built the application against the 2005 version of the DLLs and have it running successfully against SQL Server 2005. However, when I try running it against SQL Server 2008 it doesn't work. Initially I didn't deploy the Microsoft.SqlServer.* DLLs with my app - instead relying on them being in place on the server on which it was installed. However, when trying to make it work against SQL Server 2008 it was looking for the 2005 version DLLs which it wasn't able to locate. Following some other advice I read online I have now swapped out the 2005 DLLs and referenced the 2008 assemblies in my .NET project. In my MSI I now also deploy (i.e. redistribute) the SQL Server 2008 DLLs to the bin folder of my ASP.NET project. Now, when I try to run the application against SQL Server 2005 it fails to load the Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication assembly. I run depends.exe against this and find that it's dependent on SQLNCLI10.DLL which is missing on my machine with only SQL Server 2005 on it. So, what am I to do? Is this possible? How do I get around this?

SQL server 2008 failover cluster install

Hello all, Looking for the definitive answer with supporting documentation (link). Does a SQL server 2008 cluster have to be installed as or run as a domain service account or can local accounts be used?  I looked for a document that stated yes or no and could not find one. If anyone can provide info it would be much appreciated. Have all ready looked at these 2 links of interest. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504.aspx#Service_SID http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731002(WS.10).aspx Thanks in advance,

SQL server 2008 to oracle replication

Hi, I am trying to replicate data from a sqlserver to an oracle 11 subscriber(push subscription). I recently moved to SQL server 2008 from 2005. The replication in 2005 worked ok, and now in 2008 - it does not. The problem: It tries to make some fields as an interval data type in Oracle. For example, nvarchar(3) are turned into interval and numeric(38,8) fields are turned into nvarchar2(40). Anyone has any idea why is this happening and how can I change it?

sql server 2008 cluster multi instance

we have a cluster with 2 nodes and we are thinking to add another instance so that node 1 takes care of instance 1 and node 2 takes care of instance 2, and at anytime they are watching each other's back. How is this done???? what is the procedure? thanks.

SQL Server 2008 side -by-side installation in Cluster w2k3 sp2.

Hi  I am ready with In-Place and went to Sr.DBA Manager, He rejected and he want 100% Database guarantee and 100% safe, down time does not matter for him and recommended me go a head with Side by Side. 1.If detach Database from SQL2k and attach to SQL2k8,I don't think  it is possible to attach back...is it correct 2. Is it required Create new cluster group for SQL2k8? 3. In 2 case what are the cluster groups I have to Create 4. Is it required to change connecting string from application? 5. If it is where i have to modify the connecting string in application level or in Database server level? 6. What are the settings can I take care after installing new sql server instance?  7. Is it required new virtual instance name for new installation (Instance)? 8.Is there any way to use existing virtual instance name for New instance?(so I belive no Need to change connecting string in application) 10.Is it possible to change instance name?(Old instance name to some other name and new instance name as existing instance name).  SNIVAS

Server 2008 R2 - SQL 2008 R2 Cluster - Planning

Hey SQL Experts, I'm in the planning time for a Server 2008R2/SQL 2008 R2 Cluster. As far as I know, the SQL 2008R2 Cluster is based on the cluster functions of Server 2008R2, right? Is it right to say (view on licenses): - for a sql cluster (2 nodes) you need server 2008R2 Enterprise licenses under it? -sql server 2008r2 enterprise license is only required, when I want to build a sql cluster bigger than 2 nodes, right? so on: -I know the active/passive cluster for failover, but is there a possibility to use a active/active cluster for loadbalancing/performace improves? (and failover, too? in case of failover, I know the performance in a Active/Active cluster will be bad...) -I need for every cluster functions (related to sql) a shared storage under the server, right?   Thanks for your help! regards, Tim      Thanks, regards, tim

SQL server 2008R2 install on a server 2008 R2 failover cluster. Other resources won't failover to o

As the subject says, I've built a fresh install w2k8r2 and sql2k8r2 failover cluster. Sql works fine on the primary node, but when I test a failover it breaks. Specifically, if I were to stop the node1 cluster service (causing the cluster to switch to node2), windows changes the cluster DNS appropriatly and moves the shared storage just fine, but sql server doesn't failover.  Server Name, Disk Drives and Other Resources all go offline. I've verified that the advanced policies of the server name, IP, cluster drives all have both nodes checked as possible owners However, Other resources only lists node1 as a possible owner and there appears to be no way to add node2.  Under the Other resources, SQL Server and SQL Server Agent are listed. I'm sorta stumped, I've been combing the forums and have found similar issues, but nothing seems to explain why the two resources won't failover.

sql server 2008 multinode cluster

Hi, Am trying to cluster 2 SQL servers in Active/Active (multinode). All the references so far points to Active/Passive clustering using the installation wizard. Can some one help me with the detailed steps to be performed to achieve the same? SQL version: 2008 OS: Windows server 2008 SP2Thanks & Regards, Hari
