Replication issues

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have inherited an application that is having issues between the handheld computers and the host database.  The database is setup with Merge Replication, but when handheld syncs to the database, it wipes out the previous data in the host table.  For instance if the handheld scans 3 items, then syncs, we will have 3 items in the scan table on the host.  No problem here.  But if he then scans 4 more and syncs, we will have the 4 we just scanned and not 7 that we should.  Is there something that can be set on the server to eliminate this problem?  I did not setup either the handhelds or the database server, and most of my experience is with Oracle.

Thanks in advance for your help

@@IDENTITY issues created in MS Access after a Merge Replication

Hi all, We have 2 SQL Servers that update each other using Merge Replication. We then connect to the tables via an ODBC link within Access and this worked without any problems until we upgraded our SQL Server from 2000 to 2008 R2. Since the upgrade we are having problems within Access. When we come to add a new record, the record returned is different to the one we added. After much research we discovered its down to the triggers within SQL Server (from versions 2005 onwards) where the trigger updates the global variable @@IDENTITY. We've also found out that MS Access uses this variable to return the record that was supposedly last added but since it gets altered as part of a merge trigger it makes Access problematic. With this being a very big issue with MS Access and SQL Server Merge Replication triggers I can assume that others would have managed to work around this and come up with a solution. can anyone help?

transactional replication with update-able subscription issues??

I am doing transactional replication with update-able subscriptions and I have come across few issues that have kept me stranded: Here  they are:

1.can we not drop a table in Transactional replciation with updatebale subscriptions? I was assuming that with this mode, if you drop a table it will drop on subscribers as well?

2.if a new table is created at publisher, only the after running the snapshot agent(before adding the new table to the publisher) it would appear at the subscriber, can this not be automated somthing like if a new table is created, replicate it to the subscriber by itself when next snapshot agent runs, instead of manually adding it to the publisher(of course, it has to have pk's to qualify for replication)

3.In Transactional replciation with updatebale subscriptions, I can see the data changes made at both publisher and subscriber are being applied on both the nodes but when schema changes are made like adding new column, dropping column,  the changes made at subscriber are not being applied on to publisher but the ones made at publisher are being applied on to subscriber? I guess, i should be able to do this on publisher as well with this mode(I think queue reader is responsible for this, (queue reader is running al the time)).

Versioning Issues With Optional Arguments

One nice new feature introduced in C# 4 is support for named and optional arguments . While these two features are often discussed together, they really are orthogonal concepts. Let's look at a quick example of these two concepts at work. Suppose we have a class with one method having the following signature. // v1 public static void Redirect( string url, string protocol = "http" ); This hypothetical library contains a single method that takes in two parameters, a required string url and an optional string protocol . The following shows the six possible ways this method can be called. HttpHelpers.Redirect( "http://haacked.com/" ); HttpHelpers.Redirect(url: "http://haacked.com/" ); HttpHelpers.Redirect( "http...(read more)

Issues with Visual Studio 2010 editor

hi all,

I am having a weird problem with VS 2010. I am using the premium edition.

It seems that none of the asp controls <asp:..> tag are recognized by the editor. I keep getting a green underline under each control name. To check this, I have created a brand new web site targeting .NET framework 4.0 and even in the auto-generated pages, none of the asp controls is recognized. I am also unable to see the properties of any control if I click inside the tag (at an attribute). All I get is the ID of the button and the tag <HTML ELEMENT>! Furthermore, when I drop an ASP control from the toolbox, the attribute "ID" is not generated. Only when I switch to the design view that I can get to see the properties of the control and the ID is set automatically. The message for the green underline says: Element 'Button' is not a known element. This can occur if there is a compilation error in the Web Site, or the web.config file is missing.

Does anyone know what is going on?

Session Variable issues

Hello everyone,

I ran into an issud to day with the follwoing code.  The strPanelOrder session variable is false, however, once it goes into the next if statement and sets the strTrimOrder to True, it changes the strPanelOrder session varialbe to true as well.  Why is this and how to I stop that from happening?

If Session(strPanelOrder) Is "False" Then
                If (strItemNumber.Length() = 10) And (strItemNumber.Substring(0, 2) = "FS" Or strItemNumber.Substring(0, 2) = "FC" Or strItemNumber.Substring(0, 2) = "DS" Or strItemNumber.Substring(0, 2) = "DC") Then
                    Session(strPanelOrder) = "True"
                End If
End If
If Session(strTrimOrder) Is "False" Then
               If (strItemNumber.Substring(4, 1) = "T") And (strItemNumber.Substring(0, 2) <> "AC") And (strItemNumber <> "Length") Then
                    Session(strTrimOrder) = "True"
                End If
End If

Thanks in advance for taking a look at this.

Session issues with IE8

I am trying to invoke a window using the following commands:

Response.Write("<script>" & vbCrLf)"

Response.Write(window.open('" & url & "','','toolbar=0,status=1,resizable=1,scrollbars=1,menubar=1');" & vbCrLf)"

The problem however is that on IE8 the session object is not carried over to this new window. I get "Nullpointerexception" when I try to retrieve the connection object from the session. It works on IE6 though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Migrating aspnet tables to dev server - having issues

We're trying to migrate a one of our apps to our dev server for testing and development, but we're having problems with the membership functionality. We can add users, but there seems to be a disconnect with roles. We can query the aspnet_users table and find the new user in there, but when we query the aspnet_usersinroles table, that user id is not present.

We're also unable to run the Roles.GetUsersInRole("somerole") method. It returns 0 records. When I run Roles.ApplicationName, it returns the correct name, so .NET should be passing the correct app name.

We're just a little baffled. If anyone could shed some light on what could be the issue, we would appreciate it.

Thanks! :)

Trying to get Roles to populate a checkboxlist based on tutorial and having issues.

I have been using the following tutorial and had to convert the code to C# for my project, now i cant get the code to work, im getting red line under the word "in" in the UpdateRolesFromList,
i tried to add a datasource on page load for the checkboxlist like so RoleList.DataSource = PopulateRoleList(User.Identity.Name.ToString());

and gives me error saying cannot implictly convert type 'void' to 'object'

What am i missing, that when i load the page or even do a search it never displays the checkbox list as it shows in the tutorial?

        protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)

        public void PopulateRoleList(string userName)
            string[] roleNames = null;
            string roleName = null;
            roleNames = Roles.GetAllRoles();
            foreach (string roleName_loopVariable in roleNames)
                roleName = r

Workflow timing issues?

I am creating a new workflow using SPD on MOSS 2007, SP2, and having a problem with it.

The workflow is fairly basic, where when a user creates a new infopath form it sends an email to another person, who enters some info, then selects where it get's routed to next.  There are 3 more similar processes before the form is marked as completed.  At each step the WF emails the person selected as next reciepient and updates a "flag" saying which step the process is in.

The problem is that sometimes when I update a form, (all emails come to me since it's still in testing), the workflow stops with a message of "Failed on Start (retrying)".  After doing some digging I found this link:

So I went in and added an action for every update I do to first check the document out, do the update, and then check the document back in.  Well the problem I get now is that the WF fails with a message about unable to check the document back in.  I tried troubleshooting it by putting in WF Stop and Log entry actions to try to figure out exactly where the problem was happening.

I thought I had fixed it
