Linq2Sql error: "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed."

I've read up on this error from other posts and on other sites, but haven't found a solid resolution to the issue yet. My setup is as follows:

I have a RepositoryBase class that fields certain db calls that all repositories need to perform. In one such call, "GetSecurityGroup", it works most of the time, but will seemingly at random throw an exception with the error "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed." All other Repository classes inherit from this one, and they all use the same DataContext object, which I understand isn't thread safe. Since there could be multiple calls to the DataContext object on the same page, perhaps one is using the DataContext when the next tries to do so. I'm not sure. What can I do to ensure this doesn't happen?

XML Task error message hexadecimal invalid character

I am developing a SSIS package to add data from an XML file to an existing SQL Server table.  I have completed several similar projects, but on this XML file I am getting the error from the Data Flow tab between the XML Task and Data Flow Task: Error: 0xC002F304 at XML Task, XML Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "'', hexadecimal value 0x15, is an invalid character. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors. SSIS package "zStu_TS_Element.dtsx" finished: Failure. The specified view is invalid error when browsing for images

Hello All, Currently using MOSS 2007 publishing site and using the CMS elements to publish content to the web.  One of our users is experiencing a strange problem whereby when they try to insert an image into the Sharepoint content editor using the Insert Picture functionality they get the following error when trying to browse to an image: The specified view is invalid.   at Microsoft.Sharepoint.SPViewCollection.get_Item(String strDisplayName) at Microsoft.Sharepoint.Publishing.Internal.States.AssetPickerDetailState.InitGridView(GridView grid) at Microsoft.Sharepoint.Publishing.Internal.States.AssetPickerDetailState.Configure(SMObjectList objectlist) at Microsoft.Sharepoint.Publishing.Internal.WebControls.SMObjectList.Handle_LoadCompleteEvent(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.EventHandler.Invoke(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.OnLoadComplete(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint) Only one user is experiencing this problem, others are fine. Does anyone have ANY ideas what is causing this issue or how to fix it? Thanks

Invalid object error on temp table on a particular environment

Hi, I am using a temp table in my sp. I have written the following tsql before and after using the temp table. IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb..##TEMP') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE tempdb..##TEMP; Data will be inserted to the temp table consecutively using a cursor. I use SELECT * INTO tempdb..##TEMP FROM EXEC('query') to fill this temp table for the first time and INSERT INTO tempdb..##TEMP(<fields>) EXEC('query') for the remaining times. The SP is working fine in my laptop, but I am getting an Invalid Object error on this temp table name in the production server. Could anyone tell me the possible causes please? Thanks Sree

Invalid URL error on InfoPath Form Publish on an External List

I am using SP2010 Enterprise on Windows 7 and SPD 2010 & InfoPath 2010 all on the same machine in test.  I create an External List based on a ECT and Click on the 'Design Forms in InfoPath' icon and 'Item' which drops down from it.  That launches InfoPath Designer 2010 & downloads the form from http://<site>/lists/<mylistname>/Item/template.xsn and sets you up in an edit session.  I can make changes on the form but when I publish via File | Publish | External List (Publish Form To An External List) I get a save prompt for local copy & then an error: The following URL is not valid: http://<site>/lists/<mylistname>/Item/template.xsn  (same URL as it started with during the initial download). I took screen shots of the messages to make sure. Some things I have tried & observations: If I change to an internal Custom List the publish step (to list not external of course) works just fine. I also ran this test launching SPD as Administrator with no difference.  I stopped the System Event Notification service per http://serena-yeoh.blogspot.com/2006/08/infopathformurlnotvalid.html  'net stop sens' with no difference Any ideas are welcome. BTW I notice that this step of launching the InfoPath designer does change the form on the list in Sharepoint albeit slightly -

Drilldown Causes Error: Invalid offset for item.

I have a SSRS 2008 R2 Tablix with two date parameters (StartDate and EndDate). The report generates fine no matter the date range. With a small date range selected (say 1 week) the column/row drilldowns work perfectly. But when I select a wider date range (say a month) and drill into one of the columns I get the following error: An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) I took a look at the ExecutionLog and the Status showed as rsSuccess for this execution. I then looked in the Error Log and found:  library!ReportServer_0-18!1ba8!09/10/2010-06:22:23:: i INFO: RenderFromSession('/ExigoReports/SalesByStateWarehouse') library!ReportServer_0-18!1ba8!09/10/2010-06:22:24:: e ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.InternalCatalogException: Invalid offset for item. Opening a PowerPoint presentation fails with error "invalid path or file name".

When you go to a Document Library and try to open the presentation, PowerPoint opens, but then you get the error "The path or file name for "file URL" is invalid.  Please check that the path and file name are correct."I installed MOSS/WSS SP2 about 2 weeks ago, this happened once or twice before then, but I now know of about a half-dozen presentations that won't open.There is a way to get the file to open, if you hit the drop-down next to the file and select Send To and Download a Copy, you can save or open it from there.If you try browsing to if from within PowerPoint, it won't open either, and will also not open in Explorer View.  We have replaced the file, saved as a different name, etc. with no luck.Using both IE 7 and IE 8 and both XP Pro and Vista Business workstations.Any ideas out there?Thanks,Rusty

invalid syntax near '/' error

First time using parameters, not having much luck.

Keep getting 'invalide syntax near '/' when trying this code.

Any idea what might be the issue?:

string strConnString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["WebConfigConnectionString"].ConnectionString;
            SqlConnection sqlConn = new SqlConnection(strConnString);
            SqlCommand sqlComm = new SqlCommand();
            sqlComm = sqlConn.CreateCommand();
            sqlComm.CommandText = @"DELETE FROM Assets WHERE Image = @/Images/mypic1.jpg";
            sqlComm.Parameters.Add("@/Images/mypic1.jpg", SqlDbType.NVarChar);
            sqlComm.Parameters["@/Images/mypic1.jpg"].Value = "Image";

HOWTO: Verify that custom error handling solutions do not expose padding oracle

I've done some digging and come up with what I think is useful information for you if you have a custom error handling solution in place instead of or as well as the usual ASP.NET <customErrors> stuff.

From comments on ScottGu's post it seem to be that the main suspect to be the actual padding oracle is WebResource.axd (possibly other axd's).

  • If you look in .NET Reflector at the IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest method in  System.Web.Handlers.AssemblyResourceLoader there's a call to Page.DecryptString early on.
  • This is the thing that will cause a HTTP 500 status to be returned if it fails, e.g. if the padding, etc in Request.QueryString["d"] is invalid
  • If the attacker manages to get the padding right, then it continues on, ultimately to call throw new HttpException(404...)

It's this differentiation: is the padding correct (404) or not (500) that is at the root of the exploit: the padding oracle.

If your error handling returns exactly the same response for both - it masks the oracle. To test if you're vulnerable externally, a simple test is to request both:

  • webresource.axd?d=foo
  • webre

Error handling: writing database errors to a table that will not get removed by a rollback

I have an error handler sproc that issues a RAISERROR statement.  I would like for this sproc to write error messages to a table.  No problem so far.  What if there is a nested transaction with several ROLLBACKs?  If the code is only 1 level deep the error handler sproc can write to the error message table after the ROLLBACK.  If the code is 2 or more levels deep and an error occurs then what is written to the error message table might get rolled back if an error occurs after returning to the 1st level.  What I thought I would like to do is to have the error handler spawn a sub-process that would record the error message, where the sub-process would not be affected by any subsequent ROLLBACKs in the calling sproc.  Thoughts?
