SSRS 2005 report export to excel - show text as number

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

When exports the report to excel, some columns are numbers(something like 00125987). We need these columns to be text,  but excel convert these columns in numbers and in result we received not "00125987" but "125987".

How to fix that?

We need all these columns to be text.

SSRS 2005: Export to Excel, Tiff, and web archive all fail

SSRS Export to Excel is popular in our office but has been failing a lot recently- at the beginning of the year there were a few occurances a month until June, then they steadily increased until now it is nearly every time (44% of the events happened this month.)  Few software changes (just MS and virus def updates) No configuration changes until troubleshooting this issue began.  Policy changes on both server and clients is possible as that is controled by contractors and we are not notified of changes.

Upon exploring I discovered export to tiff and web archive also fail, but csv, PDF, and xml seems to work most of the time.   Some of the reports failing have not had any design changes in months.  Reports are not particularly large- 2 to 4 tables with under 200 rows each.  No more than 6 pages and then mostly because of page breaks between tables.  no more than 5 levels of drill down- most have fewer than that.  The failure happens very fast- about 4 seconds.  If the data is filtered down to very small sets so that the export process can complete inside those 4 seconds then it succeeds.

I have seem many questions on lots of forums with similar issues with SSRS but no solutions that worked for me.  All the timeout values I know of (about 6?) are set to between 120 and 3600 seconds.  None of my reports sh

Not able to export a large SSRS report into Excel

I have a requirement to export a large SSRS report into Excel. The report has more than 52 columns and around 70000 lines. The requirement is to export the report into a single excel(different sheets also would do ). Can you suggest some help in this regards?

Thanks in advance!

In SSRS 2008, after export to Excel report loses nested visibility groups

I have a report  created in SSRS 2005 which is running on our new SSRS 2008 box.  It has 3 nested levels of visibility so the recipient can click the twist tie to view different levels of detail.  Each Zone has many Districts and each District has many Stores.  The report renders displaying the summary of the Zones.  If you click on the twist tie on the Zone it opens up a list of Districts.  If you click on the twist tie on a district, it opens up a list of stores.  If you click on the twist tie on one of the stores, you get the actual details of all repair orders submitted for that store.

The report renders fine in report manager.  The report has a subscription set up to run monthly that exports the results to Excel and emails them to our client.  The problem is when the report exports to Excel the twist tie exists on the Zone, but it missing on each of the Districts and Stores.  The client is not happy about this.  This report contains large amounts of data and is very combersome without the visibility grouping working properly in Excel.

I tried converting the report to SSRS 2008, but that did not solve my problem.

Is there anyway to fix the export process to Excel?

P.S. I tried to upload the code, but it caused my question to be too many characters

VS2008 BIDS Report export to Excel not grouping the same as VS2005

I have a report that I created in VS2005 BIDS and got it to export to Excel to group/subtotal the same way it does in the BIDS report window.  Now I have copied the .rdl files to a VS2008 project, open it in VS2008 BIDS, made NO changes to the report format and the exported Excel file is combining what should be the 2nd and 3rd groups into 1 group.  In the BIDS window, the grouping is working correctly.  Does anyone have any ideas what has changed between 2005 & 2008 that may cause this problem?  Thanks in advance.

Report fine; PDF export fine; Excel export crashes - ArgumentOutOfRangeException

I use the Report Viewer Redistributable 2005 Service Pack 1 (version 8.0.50727.1843). On my ASP.NET page the report displays fine, in a ReportViewer control, using an rdlc file. How to export SSRS report to PDF from SSIS with parameters

Hello everyone.  I am trying to setup a process in which a user, who is using a vb.net 2008 application, will need to  trigger the creation of two items.  The first is  SSRS report which will need to be exported to PDF format to a shared folder on the network.  This report accepts one parameter.  The second thing that will need to be created at the same time is an excel file with data exported from SQL Server 2008 which is generated through an SSIS package.  A couple things to note.  The excel file and the pdf file need to have the same file name, other than the extension.  For example P00000001_20100831.pdf and P00000001_20100831.xlsx and will both be stored in the same network share.  The filenames need to be created dynamically at run time and will be based on a parameter being passed to the report. So far I have the portion that creates the excel file working fine.  The way I create that is as follows.  I have a stored procedure that creates a job which calls the SSIS package and passes the appropriate parameters to the SSIS package.  After the job is created I immediately run it and then delete the job.  Ok, everything works fine with that. Now I cant seem to figure out how to get the pdf created.  If possible I would like to keep this portion together with the already created job or package.&nb

SSRS Report based on SSAS Cubes doesn't show NULL values correctly

I have a SSRS report which is based on an SSAS Cube. In the Cube the formating of numeric fields that NULL values are properly shown as NULL values. In the Cube Browser and Excel this is shown correctly. However when I design the report already the query against SSAS shows these fields as "0" instead of NULL. Is there a way to fix this or is this a bug ?

Loading Decimal Number From Excel into SQL Server 2005 using SSIS Package

If you have an excel spreadsheet that displays a number .02 (because it is formated) but internally it is stored as .2654329 and you want to load .2654329 how can you do that in the SSIS package?  When we load the spreadsheet it is loading .02.  Is there some kind of option in the SSIS package to tell the package to load the internal number?lcerni

How do you freeze the tablix header row in an Excel export file in SSRS 2008?

So this is totally killing me. I've found out how to make a tablix header row repeat on each page of a PDF export file in SSRS 2008 (which I won't even get started on because all I can say is that 2005 is way better), but I cannot figure out how to make a simple header row of a tablix freeze in an Excel export file.  The tablix is right at the top of the body and spans the entire width of the design area.  How in the world do you get it to freeze in the Excel export file?

Convert from Number to Text- Exporting to Excel from SQL Reporting services 2000

I was trying to export a report which contains a number format. When I do that, all the numbers in excel will have a green small tag beside it saying "Convert from Number to Text". Is there anyway that I can change the format to a number when I export it to excel?

SSRS BUG? When a FontStyle expression is used in a report, the Browser Text Size setting overrides t

I have created a report that has the same font size for all the sections in the report. Some sections' fields use a FontStyle expression that changes the FontStyle between Normal and Italics conditionally. I run the report through the reportserver interface and the report looks fine. I run the report through the ReportViewer control and the the fields which use the FontStyle formula are overridden by the Browser's Page Text Size. Also, when I look at the inline HTML Style that's generated, the fields with the formula don't have a style, they are blank, while the fields with without a FontStyle expression have an inline HTML Style generated. And this is probably why the browser text size setting can override. This seems like a ReportViewer HTML render bug... Or is there a way around it??
