SSRS 2008 crashng when running a report with huge amount of data

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

We have a huge amount data that is loaded (using flat files, upto 80GB in size) from the mainframe on a daily basis after which our users use SSRS to view the results using predeployed reports. One of the report query brings back a huge amount of data but when rendering the reports, it dies and restarts the service.

Strange issue with a huge SSRS 2008 report (supposed to return 3 million records)

NOTE: The strange part (as mentioned in title) will come in the end.

I am running a SSRS 2008 report which fetches 3 million records from a remote server. After around 1 hour the report processing stops and I see an error icon on the lft bottom of the browser window. When I click on that to see the error details it shows some PageRequestManagerSQLErrorException with an unknown error message with code 12029 (sometimes 12002).

When I see the reportserver logs there is an error message logged in it which says "Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ReportServerDatabaseUnavailableException: The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Library.ReportServerDatabaseUnavailableException: The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to obtaining a connection from the pool.  This may have occurred because all pooled connections were in use and max pool size was reached."

The <DatabaseQueryTimeOut> value in the report server configuration file is already having a value set to 7200 seconds(2 hours).<

SSRS 2008 R2 and sharepoint 2007 report builder problems

I upgraded our enterprise sql server 2008 to sql server 2008 r2 last weekend.  Along with this i installed the report builder 3.0 on the servers as well and the updated ssrs add in for sharepoint.  The upgrade went fine, no errors that i could find.  The problem is now when i go to a library that has the report builder content type enabled and click report builder report under new it does not load report builder 3.0.

I updated the custom report builder url in central administration from /_vti_bin/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_2_0_0_0.application to /_vti_bin/ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_3_0_0_0.application

however when i do click the new report builder report it kicks me over to http://company.com/ReportServer_MossEnt  which itemizes out each individual sharepoint site in the farm.

Is the integration of ssrs 2008 r2, sharepoint 2007 and report builder 3.0 work?  did i install the wrong version of the report builder add in?  The above is the only problem i am having now.

all servers are server 2008, 64 bit and moss 2007 enterprise with sp2 & april 2010 cu

ssrs 2008 R2 - report parameter with no default set throws java script error

We have recently upgraded from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2008 R2....I am experiencing a problem with my report parameters on my SSRS reports. It seems that my report parameters that I do not have a specified 'default' value throws a java script error when I try and run/render the report under R2.  As soon as I put a 'default' value on the report param, everything is fine.  However, that is not the behavior we need for our reports...the user needs to pick their selection. Can anyone shed some light on this, it seems to be an AJAX problem...I need to be able to have report parameters with a list of values, but no 'default' value on the parameter.

I tried from local and remote computer too but gives the same error both side. I am not sure but I am just thinking is this double hop kerberos security issue? Please help me to solve this problem. I am finding solution from last 4 days. Shared dataset in SSRS 2008 R2 running on SSAS 2005

I am trying to create a report in SSRS 2008 R2 using SSAS 2005 as a datasource. My dataset has a date parameter. When I create an embedded dataset in my report everything works fine, but when I create a shared dataset with the exact same mdx query, I get the following error: An error occurred during local report processing. The definition of the report 'xxxx' is invalid. The Value expression for the report parameter 'DateCalendarHierarchy' contains an error: [BC30034] Bracketed identifier is missing closing ']'. Does anybody have any ideas? Is this a bug? Thanks, Louis

SSRS 2008 Export to PDF fails for large data with System.Exception: Parameter is not valid

Hi, We are working on Range Bar Chart using SSRS 2008. The report has huge data. It is properly displaying the data, but when we tried to export to pdf it is failing with the following exception. Exporting to excel works fine. Also if the report has small/medium data it is property exporting to PDF. It is failing only in case of huge data (we have custom page size of 28" X 14"). Of course the report has lot of expressions we used to customize the colors/text as per our requirements.   Server Error in '/Reports_SQLDEV2008' Application. Parameter is not valid. SSRS 2008 R2 - Query builder freezes and needs to be shut down Report Builder 3 when attempting quie

Hi, In SSRS, using Report Builder 3.0 (SSRS R2), after choosing a Report Model as the report's embedded data source, launched "Query Deisinger…" from GUI to build data source in report.  First 1-2 attempts at querying underlying data source (Oracle back-end), are successful, but later attempts freeze application to the point where application freezes and overall Report Builder application needs to be forcibly shut-down. This system freeze has occurred when referencing tables containing a very small number of records as well as larger data sets.  Suspect that application freezing may be caused by timing-out of connection to back-end database. but I am not sure. Any suggestion to solve this issue? Thanks   Environment - Distributed deployment Server1(report_srv) --Windows server 2003R2 64bit, Installed sql server 2008R2 reporting service, configuration tools Server2 (report_db_srv) --windows server 2003r2 64bit, sql server 2005 for report server database

SSRS 2008 Custom Authentication works when using ReportServer url but not when report manager url is

Hi, I am using SSRS 2008 with Custom security extension for authentication. The extension is developed in c#. I have placed the dll under report server bin and report manager bin directory and the logon, login pages under appropriate directory. My reports manager url is http://localhost:port/Reports and my reports server url is http://localhost:port/ReportServer. When I try to login through reports manager url, I am getting 'login failed' error message from the dll. But when I try to login using reports server url, it works. I have also set 'FullTrust' named permission set in RSMgrPolicy.config . <CodeGroup class="FirstMatchCodeGroup" version="1" PermissionSetName="FullTrust" Description="This code group grants MyComputer code Execution permission. "> < IMembershipCondition class = " ZoneMembershipCondition " version = " 1 " Zone = " MyComputer " /> Any suggestions please!   Thanks!

Graphs stop displaying in Report Viewer Control after upgrade to SSRS 2008 R2

We are seeing an issue where certain graphs and guages are not being displayed within a report rendered in the report viewer control after we upgraded from SSRS 2008 to SSRS 2008R2.  You can see the graphs and guages render and then disappear from the screen when two other graphs are rendered.  When I export the report to Excel or PDF then all of the graphs and guages are rendered properly. There are a total of 3 graphs and 2 guages on the report - when it completes the rendering process, you can only see two of the graphs displayed in the report viewer control - as I said before, you can see all 3 graphs and 2 guages when exporting to Excel or PDF.  Using Internet Explorer v8.  This problem manifest itself right after the upgrade. Has anyone seen a similar issue?

SSRS 2008 R2 Dataset Field Value Property Data Type not numeric

We're building SSRS 2008 R2 reports using SSAS as data sources.  There are several occaissions where the data types of certain dataset field values that represent cube measures are not numeric.  As such, when these fields are used in an aggregate function they throw an error.  Is there a way to remedy this in the dataset? Thanks for your help.

SSRS 2008 R2 Subscriptions Tab Missing From Report

We are running SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard This server has been upgraded from SQL Server 2008 Standard and previously from SQL 2005.  Since the upgrade we have noticed that the Subscriptions Tab is no longer available from within reports.  I can still subscribe to a report from the report manager page by selecting subscribe from the drop down.  Our report server fulfills the criteria for the tab to be available (We have a mail server configured,  Permissions on each report are correct and the credentials are stored in the datasource) and it was available before the upgrade.  Since our end users do not access the report manager page but link to each report directly we need this tab to be enabled.  Is there some other setting we need to change to enable this?

Server 2008 R2 64 bit, SSRS 2008 64 bit with Report Builder 3.0 issues with Oracle OLE Driver

Folks, ran out of idea on this issues. Setup as shown at the Title. I can connect via VS 2010  but report builder cannot run properly when setup with connection string. I use a 32 bit Oracle Driver and VS 2010 works well with it, however, Report Builder on SSRS report a bad image issues while attempting to use the same driver. What have been tried: 1-Already attempted to try to download Oracle ODP drivers 64 bit, but current driver 11g and minor version above 11g does not install, installation failed. So far all chats indicated that Server 2008 R2 does not have a Oracle 64 bit driver provided y Oracle. Any help is appreciated ....

SSRS 2008 - report manager: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server

I have an instance of Reporting Services 2008 running on Windows 2003 server.  So, the webservice URL is running on port 801, and runs fine (I can browse reports from that directory, and upload / deploy new reports and overwrite existing reports. Report manager is set to use port 800 (IIS is also on that machine running port 80).  When I attempt to connect to report manager, I get the following error, with a link to "Home" in report manager (which brings me back to the existing error page):    Unable to connect to the remote server  In the logfiles for reporting services, the following error is there: " System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.   Any ideas? Windows Firewall is NOT running on this machine.   Thanks, Chrisrjp

SSRS 2008 - Data Source cannot be found in Preview

Hello; Something weird is happening to me - Never happened before on 100's of reports using Shared Data Sources. I have a Shared data source defined and when I try to preview a new report, I get a message saying that "The data source 'ProjectList' cannot be found" When I created the dataset, I pointed it to the shared data source. I can preview the data when I run my query from query designer, so it's obviously seeing my shared data source. If I use an embedded data source, the report renders just fine. I'm using SSRS 2008R2 BIDS to develop the report - the data source is hosted from a SQL Server 2008R1 database. Anyone ever seens this? How'd you get out of it? ThanksThanks Ron...
