If Else situation

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

I have a ssis project in SSIS 2005 and that project has 2 dtsx packages . What do i need to do in order to acheive the below situation

If the parameter is x--> run 1st package
if parameter is y--> run the 2nd package

how would i achieve this scenario?
Should i create another package and based on the parameter, do i need to call the package?
is it through Command Prompt?

I am not getting any thoughts at all.

TDE key rotation in the database mirroring situation.

I have set up database mirroring for TDE enabled database and they worked fine as far as I got all the key infrastructure identical on both Principal and mirrored SQL servers. Now it is coming to our yearly key rotation practice for compliance.  After I regenerate the DEK on principal server and also encrypt it with a newer certificate,  the mirroring is suspended and I am not able to resume it any more.  (Although I have added this newer certificate to the mirrored server too.) It is understandable because now the DEK is out of sync.  However, what are the correct steps to do the key rotation in the mirroring scenario? The bottom line is:  I DO NOT want to set up mirroring again since our backups are huge and take very long time to copy the backups from principal server to mirrored server. thanks for any input in advance.

Ok, another messy situation

I'm running SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 but the server where this all will happen is running SQL Server 2008.

At the company where I work hourly employee time is tracked using several methods, sometimes more than one method per employee per day.

A job runs daily which calls several stored procedures and collects all the time data from the various sources and creates a time card.  Employees then have the option to dispute, or not, the time recorded on their card the next day.  They can dispute, concur or take no action which results in a default approval.  Employees are then paid off the hours credited to them on their time cards.

Problem:  Business rules for one particular business unit were improperly applied, resulting in employees missing a few minutes here and there on their time cards. All employees except one disputed the time, had their cards corrected and the business rules have since been corrected.  The employee who failed to dispute has a period of about 4 months where he is, probably, owed a few hours back pay.

To resolve this issue I have to query to see what hours the employee WAS credited for, then clear out the time cards and re-run the time card creation for the four month period (this time with rules applied properly), query THAT result to see what hours the employee SHOULD have been credit

Licensing situation with internet facing website using sharepoint foundation

I'm considering using wss 4.0 for my internet facing website, with windows 2008, sql server 2008 standard on the same physical server. What is the licensing cost I'm looking at? Sifting through Microsoft's literature gave me a headache, yet no closer to an answer. Can anyone give a ballpark number, the way the total costs are added up, and the kind of licenses(processor, server, CAL, external connector etc.) for each components? Also, can I use sql server express with wss 4.0?

How to use control file locks (ReaderWriterLock?) in a multi-process situation.

I have web apps on a web server farm that need to share serialized objects stored as files.  I need to be able to have one of the web apps write updates to these files, but it needs to wait until all of the other apps' threads are done reading it.

ReaderWriterLock works fine within a single web app, but as soon as I access the shared files (on a SAN or any mapped network drive) I encounter IO Exceptions when readers are in the middle of a read and a write operation occurs.

Is there a way to control this across a server farm, or at the very leasy, between multiple apps on the same server?

asking for information about query situation

Hi all engineers.

I have an important trigger in my data base. It effects many many records so it need many much time for 4 or 5 minutes.

I want to show it's situation into bottom of my web page. for example every 10 seconds, it say how many records is affected?

or I want to show situation of every query. what is way?

find situation about a query that it is executing now

Hi all. I am a c# programmer. I have a update query that it need 2 minutes for executing (for each reason). I don't want discuss about its performance. My question is: How can I find situation about a query that it is executing now and it has not executed completely yet. for example How can find my c# code how many records are affected by my query every 10 seconds while that query is executing? Is sql profiler says that to us?

Hi all. I have a hage query that effects very very record. this query needs 3 minutes time for execute (in each reasons). I don't want discuss about its performance.
my question is: I want to see query situation and find how many records are affected in every 30 seconds.

while query is executing now and has not executed completely yet.

what should I do? Is it possible to do this?

do query or trigger says his situation with us?

Can MVC provide any significant advantage in this situation...

Hi All. I am new to MVC. I am developing an customer facing database driven web application. I anticipate around 500 to 2000 users per day at various times. I plan on using C#, ASP.Net, SQL Server 2008 and jQuery. Can MVC offer me any significant advantage over using web forms and ASP.Net?

Thanks for your input!

Complicated Linked Server Situation

I have a bit of a complicated data communication situation.  There are 3 pieces involved - a vendor-based database using the TopSpeed data drivers, an Access 2007 database, Sql 2008 64-bit, on Windows Server 2008 64bit.

In my own 32bit development environment, I have installed the Topspeed ODBC drivers and created an Access db with linked objects back to the vendor-based database.  In Sql 2008, I have created a linked server to the Access db and have a series of SSIS packages running just fine, including file system operations and a lot of database work (import/export/updates).  One SSIS job is responsible for grabbing the data from the vendor based database and populating the Sql 2008 database.  The rest of the ssis jobs use the 2008 database.

Using the 64 bit environment (including the 32 bit Topspeed drivers for the ODBC linked objects), I'm having alot of problems.  Selecting against the linked server access db from sql 2008, I successfully obtain results if the data is contained in the database.  However, I receive an error when using the linked object in the access db:

Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server ...

I believe I've isolated it to the the linked objects in the access db but am not sure what I should try

How would you configure min and max memory in my situation?

We're getting ready to configure a new SQL 2008 R2 server and we're stumped on how to best configure memory in SQL. We've got a Windows 2008 system running on a Virtual machine with 8 gig of ram. We plan on running 2-3 databases on the server and want them to have the most memory available without taking too much from the OS. We thought that it might be best to configure the min / max memory something like

min=0

max=4 gig

Seems like this would leave the OS plenty of ram for its use.

Tricky situation - Logs full and can't truncate **because of replication**, other similar posts do

HI,

I'm in a situation where my backup failed and went unnoticed long enough for the log to consume the disk.  I've added additional log space on another drive, not desirable but either is a crashed db.  The issue seems to be that I have rouge transactions in the sys.dm_tran_active_transactions and can't get rid of them.

There a 6 rows that are named worktable and have a time stamp of 1-24-11 which is before I setup replication and I believe these are preventing the log from releasing it's space.  Can these rows be deleted if I can find the underlying sql table that's behind the sys.dm_tran_active_transactions view?  Well providing connecting to ADMIN:<dbname> puts me in a mode to do so.

Thanks for any help
