Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

I have a desktop app that installs windows updates using the Windows Update Agent, problem I have is that it works on XP machines but when I run on a windows 7 machine I get this error

"Exception from HRESULT: 0x80240044

Here is my complete code for running the updates

 //Install Updates
          UpdateSessionClass uSession = new UpdateSessionClass();
          IUpdateSearcher uSearcher = uSession.CreateUpdateSearcher();

          ISearchResult uResult = uSearcher.Search("IsAssigned=1 and IsInstalled=0");
          UpdateDownloader downloader = uSession.CreateUpdateDownloader();
          downloader.Updates = uResult.Updates;
          downloader.Download();

          UpdateCollection updatesToInstall = new UpdateCollection();
          foreach (IUpdate update in uResult.Updates)

Visual Studio closes itself by opening aspx-Page designer after Windows Update

Hey Guys,

I've a problem with my Visual Studio.

On the 13th of August 2010 i installed a Windows update on my vista sp2 pc. For this date my Visual Studio 2008 sp 1 always has closed itself by opening an aspx-page in designer view. There is no error message just closing the window. I restored a backup of my windows from the time before updating it and it helped, i could open aspx pages in the design view till the update has been installed again automatically after rebooting the pc. I can't disable windows updates, cause it's my pc at work and safety is very important. I hope you could help me out of this disaster.

Thanks

Nik

SQL*Server 2008 SP1 applied but still tries to download and install from Windows Update

I had previously posted this on the windows update forum and was advised here was more appropriate. I have installed SQL*Server Express 2008 on laptop with windows7 and appled the SP1 update. This shows as applied correctly when looking at programs/updates from control panel, update logs. The management console confirms version 10.1.2531 is running. Each time I use windows update  the service pack is listed as needing download / install - the same KB968369 is given as the reference. I have run this a couple of times but the update is shown as outstanding each time. Any ideas how to resolve this? Thanks Colin

Problem installing Cumulative Update 6 for SQL 2008 SP1 on Windows XP

I am attempting to apply SQL Server 20008 SP1 Cumulative Update 6 on my Windows XP desktop. The update executable is unpacked and I get a brief flash of a Command Screen and then nothing. I have searched for any update files but have not found any. My Desktop Configuration: Windows XP SP3, Windows Installer 4. SQL Server 2008 SP1 Developer Edition. I am also attempting to install the Client Tools for SQL 2008R2 on this same desktop and am getting the same results. I click on SETUP and get a brief flash of the Command Screen and the installation does not continue. Internet searches speak of a problem with a registry entry in the Boostrap Key for a valid Setup directory, but this key exists in my desktop registry. Thanks,

Windows Update Caused Graphics Acceleration Isssues with .NET 2.0 Applications

As of 9-17 2010 our users have been having issues with two .NET Windows applications since getting the Windows Update. After the IT dept did about a day and a half of researching we figured out it was the video cards with acceleration that was causing the issue. Windows would totally freeze when launching any .NET 2.0 applications. After researching and coming to the conclusion that setting the acceleration on the 3rd bar, or about 1/4 way to full acceleration the applications would finally launch. However there are still some areas of the applications that still freeze windows. One of the applications was developed by our development department and another is a third party application we use internally. I have researched online for some others with issues like this and I am not sure what the next step should be. Any help is appreciated.

Access to update application files stored in Program Files, restricted on a Windows 7 device when us

Hi all,

I'm here to solve a problem, and that is our application, which speaks to a central server on startup, checks for updates and if found, updates its local files (stored in Program Files) with those pushed from the central server.  Currently, we are getting access denied exception when this updater tries to add/edit files in this special directory.  What I am looking for is a way to accomplish this updating process without moving these application files to a different location.

SQL Agent - Running SSIS Package - Windows Server 2008/Windows 7 - Messenger Services

We have tried to run a SQL job for SSIS Package. But it failed during the execution with the error "[364] The Messenger service has not been started - NetSend notifications will not be sent". But in the job, no notifications have been configured and in windows server 2008/Windows-7 there is no messenger service at all.

When we search for the the messenger service in windows 7/windows server 2008, we found that service is not in both the OS and it was replaced by msg.exe.

Any help or workaround would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

PS: The normal SQL jobs other than SSIS are working fine without any error.

System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser unable to update or change

I am using this WebBrowser component in a C# project.

I have declared and use "_wb" as shown below::

string httpcmd = @"https://...........";

System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser _wb = new System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser();
_wb.ScriptErrorsSuppressed = false;
Uri myuri = new Uri(httpcmd);
_wb.Url = myuri;
while (_wb.ReadyState != System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowserReadyState.Complete)
{
System.Windows.Forms.Application.DoEvents();
}

The above code in within a class.

Once my program uses the above code once, it then does seem possible to change.

i.e. After the first iteration, nothing changes each time the code is run.

The DocumentText property I reference stays the same once it is set.

It is like the URI is not even re-sent.

Only if I close the application and then re-run then the webbroweser will update as desired.

I have seen many references to this problem but have not been able to resolved it.

Can anyone suggest how to get this componet to reset or clear so it behaves like I have re-run the application?

Restore database from system dbs and log file when .mdf file size set to 0KB after Windows Update ?

This can't be right. Friday I tried to install some Windows updates including ‘Security Update for …Windows Server 2008 for x64-based Systems (KB2416473)’ on both my host Server 2008 box and on a VM instance of Server 2008 running on the same physical box. An important SQL Server 2008 instance lives on that VM.

The above mentioned update failed on both the host and the VM, but a system shutdown and reboot were required for both OS’s anyway. When SQL Server started up again on the VM, the *.MDF file size for 2 (out of maybe 15 total) databases had been reduced to 0KB. Additionally, 1 of accompanying *.LDF files was now also 0KB in size, while the other *.LDF file was probably its normal size of 2.9GB. All the other databases and log files, including Master.mdf, seem to be okay.

I’m new to SQL Server and have a couple of questions of cours

Cannot update Windows, Microsoft. NET Framework 3.5 sp1 not functioning.

Okay, I'm a real technophobe and I'm running around in circles trying to work out what's wrong with my pc.  Here goes...

I have Microsoft.Net Framework 3.5 SP1 in my programmes.  I am using Microsoft Windows version 6.6.6001.  Windows Vista Home Premium 6.1. SP 1.  32 bit.  I received the following on 30/04/09, hotfix for Msft.NET(KB9535???).  A hotfix was updated on 19/05/2010 (KB960884)

I have had numerous errors... Intel Graphics Kernel Mode Driver G33/G31 (1gdkmd32.sys-knackered).  Windows will not update whatsoever (80072EFD).  Error (0x8DDD002)  Msft Windows Capi 2 caused a crash.  Microsoft is not able to establish a connection on port www Service HTTP with this computer.  Proxy won't let Firefox install.  Internet Expolrer tells me it can't open a page- I press the back button and it opens it?  These are just a few of the problems I have been experiencing with my machine.

I have tech support from a microsoft support site but despite sending system information, error logs and snapshots I'm getting nowhere.  I have even paid to have my registry cleaned, I have used TDS killers, (even though my anti-virus tells me everything is sweet,) I have renamed something, (can't remember what,) I have reset everything to default status and even performed a system restore

Windows Update Error - Win XP, Win 7 and Server 2008

We have a mix of Windows XP and 7 PC and Windows 2008 servers that are configured to use our WSUS update server.  However, we have begun to notice that most of the PCs aren't consistantly communicating with the WSUS server. Also, if we try to run the Windows update process on the PC or other Server, we get the following error message:

Code 80244021 - Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

Review of the WEB only shows problems for Vista PCs and the suggestions to resolve the error doesn't work any way.
