[VS2008] Designer's display problem

Hello, I created a solution with multi-project and i've recently added some resources files to lacalized my application and of course my XAML files too. I used the "How To:" http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/dd882554(v=VS.95).asp I inserted the class LocalizedString in one off my project that I use as library for common actions. But since, my designer is not loading properly because it can't find this class while I precised the good assembly and that the application is running properly with resources applied. It's then not handy to develop an HMI... If anybody has an idea about this trouble... Of course I tried dozens of times to clear the projects and regenerate without success. Thank you for your help !

VS2010: Upgrading projects from VS2008

I just upgraded my VS2008 solution to VS2010 and have run into a problem. I have a .NET C# application that references a managed C++ DLL, which in turn links to a native static library. All this works just fine. However, whenever I attempt to run the C# application, Visual Studio claims that the native static library is out of date and must be recompiled. It does that even after I've just compiled the native library. When allowing VS2010 to build the native project, the only thing it does is this: 1>  LibraryName.vcxproj -> C:\Bleh\Blah\LibraryName.lib Is there a way I can figure out what's causing VS2010 to think the project is out of date?

Help - Serious ReportViewer Problem upon upgrade to VS2010

I upgraded from VS2008 to VS2010 and none of my reports work! First, I had to replace all the existing ReportViewer controls with new ones.  Then, when the page finally runs, it is stuck in a loop: I see the "Loading..." word and icon while the ReportViewer is loading, then a quick flash, and the page loads again! What's going on?  What am I missing that should obviously be changed to make these ReportViewers work?  These reports were designed in VS2005/2008, and have been in production for several years. Please help - I have a screaming client... (I know, we all do...)

Opening vs2008 solution file in vs2010 - Framework targeting issue

Hey guys,

I am opening a vs2008 .sln file inside vs2010 - the conversion wizard shows up, and it goes through with no errors other than a pop up warning me that this solution needs .Net Framework 3.5 and that it is "not installed on this machine" - I chose to target it to .Net Framework 4.0 and to try to switch it later as an option.

I then bring up Properties - >Application -> Target Framework and in the dropdown, .Net Framework 3.5 is not listed - which is strange since in "Add or Remove Programs" I can see .Net Framework 3.5 is installed on my machine.

How can I get Framework 3.5 to show up in the dropdown so I can target this project to that framework?

Can't say I've ever done this, so I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong.

Update: I tried Method #1 here (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/robvi/archive/2004/02/17/75272.aspx) and I cannot see v3.5 - so where did it go? I'm confused why it is not in my registry but shows up in "Add or Remove Programs" list...

Thanks

VS2008 assembly load problem

Hi, I have .NET solution in VS2008. In my solution there are 20 projects. In Debug configuration everything is OK. But in Release configuration there is problem with loading one specific assembly(class library from my projects).

Could not load file or assembly 'Solution.Project, Version=1.0.3929.32377, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.

My system is Windows 7 prof. 64bit. I checked directory and file(.dll) is OK. On other computers it`s OK. I checked out working copy to another directory and same problem.

Where can be problem please?

MVC 2 in VS2008 blocked by VS2010?

Hey there,

At my workplace, I need to use VS2008 and VS2010 as required by different projects. That's cool, except I now need to use MVC 2.

I installed VS2010 and as such have MVC 2 installed, but VS2008 still does not recognise MVC 2 projects. If I try and install MVC 2 using the specific installer for VS2008, it fails because it can see the MVC 2 is already installed!

So (after that windy explanation), is there a simple way I can get VS2008 to recognise MVC 2 projects, or will I need to uninstall MVC 2, install MVC 2 for VS2008, and then again for VS2010! I'm REALLY trying to avoid uninstalling all of VS2010 and reinstalling - there's almost a whole day there!

Thanks,

Thes

VS2010 - Problem with WinForms generated code

Hi:

I'm having trouble with the code that is generated automatically by the WinForms designer, sometimes it generates code that uses the 'components' (IContainer) in the constructors of disposable components and other times it doesn't.

Here is some code. First the code that is generated in a clean new project with just one component on the form:

  private void InitializeComponent()
  {
   this.components = new System.ComponentModel.Container();
   this.errorProvider1 = new System.Windows.Forms.ErrorProvider(this.components);
   ((System.ComponentModel.ISupportInitialize)(this.errorProvider1)).BeginInit();
   this.SuspendLayout();
   //
   // errorProvider1
   //
   this.errorProvider1.ContainerControl = this;
   //
   // Form1
   //

Upgrading VS2008 to VS2010

I apologize in advance, but I don't know where to post this question. I have VS2008 Pro installed on my PC, and want to upgrade to VS2010 Pro. The only "upgrade" for 2010 Pro I see is from 2008 "Standard". Will that also upgrade my 2008 Pro? Or do I have to buy the full 2010 package? The upgrade is about $270, while the full version is almost $500.

Any insight into this would be appreciated.

Thanks!

javascript issues converting ASP.NET application from VS2008 to VS2010

I have encountered some javascript issues migrating an ASP.NET web application from Visual Studio 2008 to VS 2010.

1. When retrieving a value from a control, the following javascript syntax worked in VS2008:

  "document.formname.controlname"

In VS2010, I have to change everything to the following format:

 "document.forms.formname.controlname"

2. I use Master pages extensively.  In VS2008, when the ASP.NET web form is displayed in the browser, the ID for a control in a child form in the content placeholder uses the following convention:

"ctl00_ContentPlaceholder1_controlname"

In VS2010, the ID for a control in the placeholder uses the following convention:

"ContentPlaceholder1_controlname"

The "ctl00" is dropped.  Wherever I have used

GetElementByID(ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_controlname)

has to be replaced with

GetElementByID(ContentPlaceHolder1_controlname)

Is there an alternative to modifying reams of javascript code?

Are there any other javascript surprises I should anticipate during the conversion?

Thanks

Bill

Remove VS2008 after installing VS2010?

Until a few days ago, I worked in VS2008. A few days ago, I installed the trial version of VS2010.

Now I'ld like to upgrade my VS2008 license to VS2010, and it would be nice if I could remove VS2008 from my computer completely to free up some disk space.

Can I safely remove the VS2008 installation without interfering with VS2010?

Intellisense problem in VS2008

Hi,

I have an intellisense problem in VS2008. I use code-behind, and though I can declare ASP elements in the aspx file, it's as if the code can't see them. The pages run OK, but when I type

anAspLabel and then '.' for example, intellisense does not pop up the methods and members for this asp label.

I've tried the reset option in Options > Text Editor. Intellisense works fine if the class instance is declared in the code behind file, but it won't recognise web controls declared on the aspx page.

Can anyone help?

... is not an implementation of ... when upgrading from VS2008 to VS2010 + .NET 4.0

Morning,

I recently upgraded a VS2008 solution to VS2010 + .NET 4.0.

Locally on my development box the solution now in VS2010 builds fine and i can run it successfully + run all unit tests succesfully.

However on our TFS2010 server I cannot build it - the units tests all fail to initialize with the following exception:

Class Initialization method SpawnTest.SpawnAndProcessTests.ClassInitialize threw exception. System.ArgumentException: System.ArgumentException: Type CustomEntLibDatabaseProvider.CustomEntLibCachedDatabaseAssembler is not an implementation of IDatabaseAssembler for DatabaseAssemblerAttribute.
Parameter name: assemblerType.

problem publishing website in VS2008 - destination site keeps asking for id/password

hi,

I have a simple website and can publish it locally to my localhost as the default website.

However, when I try and publish to a different server, VS2008 keeps asking me for the servers id/password.

I have published successfully bwefore to this server from a Windows XP PC running VS2008.

Only difference is that I am now running my VS2008 on Windows 7.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Cheers.
