Cannot access pages using /_layouts//.aspx

I have a development server on which we have implemented a number of application pages. We can access these using the url format:

Cannot access pages using http:/<site>/_layouts/<folder>/<page>.aspx

This also works for subsites:

Cannot access pages using http:/<site>/<subsite>/_layouts/<folder>/<page>.aspx

Now I am trying to implement these pages on our production server and I am getting file does not exist errors. Any thoughts on why this might be?

How to Access Parent Page (.aspx) control (IDs) from its child User Control (.ascx)

I have a parent .aspx page that has a asp:panel control in it, and this parent .aspx is also referencing a user control that I registered in that .aspx. Lets just call it usercontrolA.ascx for this post.The user control has a radiobuttonlist itself.Based on a selection from the radiotbuttonlist in the user control, I want to be able to hide the asp:panel in my .aspx (parent) but unfortunately I cant' get it to work:parentPanel.visible = true;  <<< I trried this in usercontrolA.ascx.csBut the user control doesn't know about the panel in the parent .aspxSo do I need to expose that somehow from the parent so that I can access it from the code behind of the child .ascx?  How?

How to associate custom masterpage from 12 hive folder to an ASPX page

scenario: I have a custom masterpage available within 12 hive folder.  I want one of the ASPX pages (say allitems.aspx) to use this masterpage. I see that when I open the ASPX page using SPD, it has default.master but upon changing it to mydefault.master it gives error indicating that file is not found. So question is how to reference custom masterpage in aspx pages? I prefer to do it through visual studio but SPD is also fine.   thanks.

Unable to access default.aspx page

When I was testing the use of some of the web parts available to some user's web page, I created a web part to list the content of some document librabry we have.

When I was editing the web part's <Actual View>, on the "Folders" category I chose the "Show this view" as "Folder of the content type", "Sent Letters" (example).

As soon as I pressed OK I was redirected to the home page of that content type list.

I tried to return to site's the Home Page by pressing the Home Page button and event typing the URL http://servername/default.aspx but I keep being redirected to the document list I chose for the web part.

This only happens to the user wich created the troublelling web part.

How can I reset the home page of that user?

How to access child(.ascx) page control from parent page(.aspx) javascript

I have functionality to select All check boxes on grid rows.

Child User control is having grid with checkbox to select all rows of grid. I want to select individual cell html from each row when I select all rows when checkbox 'select all' is clicked and place it into textbox which is in Parent page.

This textbox can only be in parent page.

So i need to call child(.ascx) page control from parent page(.aspx) using javascript as follows.

function CheckUncheckChildren(event)
        var childChkBoxes = document.getElementById('<%=gvUserDetails.ClientID %>').getElementsByTagName("input");
        var childChkBoxCount = childChkBoxes.length;
        var evtelem = (isIE())?event.srcElement:event.currentTarget;
        if(evtelem.checked == true)
            for(var i = 0; i<childChkBoxCount; i++)

How to access SQL-Server with in aspx page

this is probably a dummy question, but I didn't find a tutorial working for me after searching for some time now.

I'm playing with a small web project and can successfully use a connectionstring from a website.config in eg. a GridView.

Now I have the need to access this connection string from some custom VB code.

What I found so far is, that I need somthing like this (at least I guess so):

Dim connstring as string
  connstring = ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings("myconnectionstring1")

Now how do I execute any kind of SQL-code against this connection?

In this current case I need to run something like "delete from schedules where startdate<getDate() -10"

But basically could also be a query like "select * from schedules" and then checking the values or whatsoever...

Please someone help me or even a link to a easy understandable guide would help.

Launch CMD File From ASPX Page

My organization uses a CMD file to install updated files for a major enterprise application. Currently, we send out an email to users with a link to the file and instructions to run it, BUT inevitably users don't update their machines until their in field and try to start the app.

We're now liking the idea of using an ASPX page to prompt the users to run the updates and to capture the fact that the updates have been run. I realize that we can't capture the success or failure of the update. But we'd like to capture the user accessed the page.

Is it possible to embed into the markup for the page a link to the file on the local intranet that the users can click on to run the file?

The user accessing the page would capture that they did just that. We'd deal with wether or not the update was actually installed or if it failed later with them directly.

Visual Studio closes itself by opening aspx-Page designer after Windows Update

Hey Guys,

I've a problem with my Visual Studio.

On the 13th of August 2010 i installed a Windows update on my vista sp2 pc. For this date my Visual Studio 2008 sp 1 always has closed itself by opening an aspx-page in designer view. There is no error message just closing the window. I restored a backup of my windows from the time before updating it and it helped, i could open aspx pages in the design view till the update has been installed again automatically after rebooting the pc. I can't disable windows updates, cause it's my pc at work and safety is very important. I hope you could help me out of this disaster.

Flash player doesn't send cookies while requesting an aspx page

 I'm developing a web-site, that uses SWFUpload for multiple files upload to the server. Page, that uploades files, is accessable only to registered user. Authentication is done via web-forms (authentication mode="Forms" in Web.config). Flash uploades files to special web page - upload.aspx. In IE everything works great, but Flash player in non-IE browser (in Firefox, for example) does not send any cookies to upload.aspx. Because of it no sesion and no authentication information is available in this page.

 I can pass all the information, necessary for uploading, in GET-parameters, which upload.aspx recieve. But this is a serious security hole and I don't want to expose session information. I can pass session identifier in GET-request. But the question is the following: how can I restore session information from the session identifier? How can I make HttpContext.Current.User point to currently logged in user in this case?

Any help will be appreciated.

User Control not accessing the value of the properties send to it from the aspx page.

I have a dynamic accordion on a page. Set its datasource to an object of paged data source.The user control is in the accordions content template. When i was writing code the properties were showing but after giving the values of databases as

<uc:UserControl1  runat="server" Property1='<%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"columname1")%>' Property2='<%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"columname2")%>'  ></uc:UserControl1>

but the values shows null, these properties are shown as textboxes text property by user control.

MoreOver when I checked the values of database Items.So i made a textbox instead of usercontrol here as

<asp:TextBox ID="txtTest" runat="server" Text='<%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"Columname1")%>'></asp:TextBox>

It is showing the correct value. And if i pass the value directly it is also showing correctly like

<uc:UserControl1  runat="server" Property1="XYZ")%>' Property2="ABC")%>'  ></uc:UserControl1>

. where I am wrong

the problem is eval is not passing the value to usercont

Access denied to folder in ASP.NET project either though I have granted all users full permissions !

i have made a very simple file upload app, that i want users to be able to upload images to a folder on my server, well localhost for the time being Stick out tongue

here is the simple upload code...

        protected void ButtonRegisterDetails_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
            // display properties of the uploaded file

Changing aspx page causes session data to be lost...

Strange but true. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Way of showing ID on the DispForm.aspx page without programming?

Is there a way of showing the ID system field on the DispForm.aspx page without programming.
I don't want to use a dataview, as new fields being added in the future won't appear automatically anymore this way on the DispForm.aspx page.

I found somewhere that I could use a calculated field, with as formula =ID (so, in fact just copying the value of the ID field in the calculated field), which is one option.

Are there other options/solutions known?

Is it possible to open the EIQuotationReport.aspx web form in a new window or a new tab? I could change the button to a hyperlink if required.

CSS Problem on ASPX page

I am having a problem with space around a div. The page looks perfect in the VS internal browser, but there is space at the top between the body and the div for the page layout in IE and FireFox. I tried everything I know by setting margins to 0 and padding to 0 for the body, div, form, almost everything and there is still space. The wierd thing is that the space shows the background color when I set the padding for the div#page to 0, and the space is the div#page background color when the padding is set to a value.

I must be missing something. I looked at the page's HTML after it is rendered from the server and it inserts a dive with a hidden control for the viewstate. I thought this might be causing the problem so I set the margin and padding for all divs to 0, but it did nothing.

The code for the simple page and CSS is provided below.

It appears the problem disappears and the page looks as I intended when I use the Compatibility View in IE8.

Thanks for the help in advance,
-- Chris
