Indexing Schedule Manager Failing

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

The scheduled crawls (full and incremental) are not running automatically. I can successfully run the crawl manually, but it will not run on the schedule. I found that the Indexing Schedule Manager is failing. It is scheduled to run every 5 min which it does, but fails every time. The error message is "databaseConnectionString".

In the application log on the server, I get the following critical error (EventID 6398):

The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.IndexingScheduleJobDefinition (ID c7ba8100-77d4-442d-bacf-e29d1c9c0bb7) threw an exception. More information is included below.

Authorize It: Use Role-Based Security in Your Middle Tier .NET Apps with Authorization Manager

Authorization Manager in Windows Server 2003 represents a significant improvement in the administration of role-based security, making it more scalable, flexible, and easier to implement. Using Authorization Manager, you can define roles and the tasks those roles can perform. You can nest roles to inherit characteristics from other roles, and you can define application groups. In addition, Authorization Manager lets you use scripts to modify permissions dynamically, and it allows you to wrap your security logic in a security policy that can be stored in Active Directory. Authorization Manager also includes an easy-to-use API for running access checks. The author discusses all of these topics and demonstrates them with a working sample.

COM+: Create a Compensating Resource Manager to Extend Your App's Transactional Features

A Compensating Resource Manager (CRM) is any COM+ object that uses the CRM facility provided by COM+, a set of tools that make it simple to create a custom resource manager for business scenarios that require handling some non-database operation (such as generating a file) as part of a transaction. This article provides an overview of transaction processing, distributed transactions, and the two-phase commit protocol for transactions. Also covered are the implementation and configuration of a CRM.

Web Security: Part 2: Introducing the Web Application Manager, Client Authentication Options, and Pr

This article, the second of two parts, continues coverage of Web security for Windows. It introduces the Web Application Manager in IIS that allows Web processes to be isolated, decreasing the security risk associated with running in a logon session. The article then picks up where Part One left off-it discusses authentication methods such as basic authentication, digest authentication, integrated Windows authentication, and anonymous logons, and the benefits and drawbacks of each.

ASMX ws: An unexpected error occurred on a receive; failing intermittently

we I have asmx web service, this seems to be working fine for 25 client machines but one site keeps failing. The client gets a small dataset and tries to send it across to server to process. The dataset saved in XML file only makes 450 - 550kB. The web service is contacted twice in a short time every half an hour. The other smaller dataset (50kB) goes across everytime without any troubles. This site is not trying to send the biggest dataset, other site are sending much bigger datasets without problem. The catch is this failing site keeps retrying for 20 times (10 hours) in average and then eventually goes across. I don't think the service webmethod is erroring out as that is all wrapped up in the try and catch and the exception is not getting thrown, also every other try for the exact same webmethod used by any other client site seems to be working fine.

sharepoint 2007 indexing issue

when we do incremental crawl, the items in index start decreasing and the error count remains the same. so it is hard to find what is causing the index items to reduce. can anyone help please. i had to pause the active crawl because of this index item decrease.

I have checked the following:

1) there is no space issue

2) no credential issue

What I found a bit fishy is that:

1) in the log, i got ->

a)get REGKEY_FLTRDMN_MS_TO_IDLE, using default - _File:\office\source\search\search\gather\fltrdmn\fltrdaemon.cxx Line:323

b) Server Office Server Shared Services 6pls Medium Cache blocked for shared object '1dd1db1d-8a07-4e27-9249-b7d328818fa2' of type 'Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchSharedApplication'

SharePoint 2007 - my site is schedule for deletion

My manager is getting the following email "The My Site of XXXXXXXX is scheduled for deletion. As their manager you are now the temporary owner of their site. This temporary ownership gives you access to the site to copy any business-related information you might need. "  Can anyone tell me the number of days before the my site gets deleted and can the deletion be stopped?

CRUD Operation should be Part of BO or Service/Manager Classes?

I am developing an application which has a general structure similar to what Scott has described at http://nhibernateasp.codeplex.com

Thanks to Scott for developing such a nice architecture which can be used for most of the projects!

It uses Service Layer which contains service classes (like Product Service) which actually talk to the repository layer (ProductRepository) and these service classes are responsible for CRUD operations while the BO (Product) contains just the data and the validation methods.

As I have read, in OO design, you should design a class which contain both data and behavior, in which case, the BO (Product) should be responsible for doing its own CRUD and it should not be a responsibility of Service classes.

Which approach you think is better design and what could be the reasons?

Any help is this regard is appreiciated.

How to set Host's Domain Manager in a created AppDomain

I am not sure if this is possible but I would want something similar to loading the Host's domain manager to my new AppDomain. There is no Domain Manager for a newly created AppDomain. Owing to this many of my subsequent call fails. For example if I make a call to "Assembly.GetEntryAssembly" it returns null in the new AppDomain. To workaround this I will have to call "AppDomain.ExecuteAssembly("entryassembly")" in my created AppDomain. I actually do not have a need to do this in my application. Similarly there are other calls such as "ScriptEngine.GetSearchPaths". This again does not return the expected search paths in my new AppDomain. Again if I perform "AppDomain.ExecuteAssembly("entryassembly")" then the expected search path is returned. So in short a domain manager is created in my new AppDomain only when i execute the entry assembly in my new AppDomain; which internally provides me a domain manager similar to the Host's domain Manager (as i execute the same entry assembly). Is there a way to load the Host's domain manager without executing any assembly in my new AppDomain. I am using VS 2008, .Net Framework 2.0.
