Find a site collection directory in a web application in IIS

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

We have a MOSS 2007 site called for example Sharepoint-80, url is: http://ourdomain.com,  under it I created a team site collection, the url is: http://ourdomain.com/sites/HRDepartment .

My question is in IIS directory, I cannot find a directory named either "sites" or "HRDepartment". I know IIS directory isnot like sharepoint directory. But I need to look at IIS settings for the subsite directory, how and where can I find it - to find a site collection directory in IIS?

How to find a page count across a site collection

Is there a way through the standard MOSS user interface to find all of the pages in all pages lists across an entire site collection?

Site Collection vs Application Pool

As someone new to SP admin I am having trouble understanding the difference between "site collections"and "application pools."

Can anyone give some guidance in plain English rather than MS speak?

Programmatically syncing Active Directory changes with the SharePoint Site Collection

I manage a MOSS 2007 portal in Windows Server 2003, with a SQL Server 2005 backend.  We use Active Directory as the source for our SharePoint accounts.  I have written a Web Part that allows the user to edit certain fields in Active Directory, but the changes are not synched with the site collection right away.

I understand that the sync process is something like this:
1. Active Directory is updated.
2. SSP syncs with Active Directory (can force a sync from the web page, or with STSADM).
3. SSP syncs with underlying Site Collections (can force with STSADM).

This means that a user updates their information, but it is not apparent to them that the change went through, because the site collection profile is not updated. I know I can force a sync manually, but I want to do it programmatically.

What I want to do is this:  From my C# code in my Web Part, at the moment a user updates an Active Directory account, that account is synched with SSP, and then the SSP profile is updated in the site collection (I only have one site collection at the moment).  What is the code to accomplish this?

Zone, Site collection or a whole new Web application

Hi there,

I am trying to figure out the best option for this scenario:

Client has existing intranet (SP 2010 - Claims based authentication). They now want to Use SP 2010 for Externally facing site. This site will be primarily an internet site but will also also login to access  some of the information not exposed to the internet (so I guess it is also an Extranet). Content/ Admin will be managed from from single source (the current intranet site), obviously information they choose to show on Internet/ Extranet will be a subset of what is available on the intranet.

What is advisable in terms of architecture?

1. Should I be looking at creating a site collection?
-Then use content deployment to pass all content from intranet to extranet?

2. Should I Extend the current web application - And still use content deployment.

3. Should I be looking at creating a whole new web application?

What are the implications in particular to do with authentication and getting access to the content I should be aware of?

SharePoint Application and Site Pages - Part 1 of 2

In this first part of the two part series, Steven covers the differences between Site and Application pages in SharePoint 2007, why each may be used in various circumstances, and prepares for the construction of a menu located application page. After a brief introduction he examines the concept of Site Pages and Application Pages separately in detail with supported screenshots.

SharePoint Application and Site Pages - Part 2 of 2

As the second article in a two part series, Steven examines the attributes and details of a SharePoint 2007 application page, including the construction and feature deployment of the same page based project. Since this is a WSS level objective, as opposed to MOSS, you will not need MOSS to work with the code included in this project. Windows Server 2003, WSS, and Visual Studio 2005 are all that is needed, with no additional add-ons. He provides a detailed analysis of each step involved in the creation and deployment of the project.

Create Web Site vs Web Application

I follow the tutorial and creted a web site for my company sales system. One of my collegue mention we use the wrong templet, we should use Web application for company application.

Should i continue using web site or change to web application? We are creating application for company sales, inventory, hr ,etc where possible more than 1000++ user. And during month end, it will be high traffic and transaction. can Web Site Template with BLL and DAL handle it? or i just need a powerful server?

Web Site to Web Application Question

I've been building web sites and for my next project I will be creating a web application.  I use a 'BasePage' class in all my projects but, since web applications do not contain the 'App_Code' folder, what is the best place/practice for the 'BasePage' class?

Search does not find text in Word document stored in document library on a Report Center site within

We have a document library on a site created off of the Report Center site template. We uploaded a Word 2007 document with the word zebra in the text. Using the search bar at the top of the page we selected This list: Our document library and searched for zebra. We received no results.

We tested the same thing on another site (site template Team site) within the same site collection and search worked fine.

Does the Report Center search function differently then the search functionality on the Team site?

Site Collection Usage Summary: No Data Available

Usage analysis processing is enable for my farm in both Central Administration and in the SSP.

I've checked TImer Job Status and the three timer jobs responsible for doing the log analsis are all running.

I've also checked the log file locations and the log files are being generated.

Yet when I browse the "Site collection usage summary" report (SpUsageSite.aspx) I get the following:

No data is available for this report. Usage analysis might have been enabled only recently, or there might have been insufficient usage to result in any values for the report.

My farm is running 2007 Enterprise SP2 (

Can someone confirm if this issue was fixed with one of the CU's that were issues post-SP2?

Site Collection Usage Report Include Outlook?

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the Site Collection Usage Report includes activity that occurs from Outlook? For example, if a user contributes to a discussion board without ever physically touching the site or if the user just reads list content from Outlook, is this included?

ANY help at all is greatly appreciated.

Portal Search Work - Site Collection Search Does Not

In our SharePoint installation we have an SSP which indexes local office sharepoint server sites.  However there is a problem, although we can do portal searches which reveal search results it is not able to do local searches at the site collection level and as a result we are presented with the typical error below.

No results matching your search were found.

  1. Check your spelling. Are the words in your query spelled correctly?
  2. Try using synonyms. Maybe what you're looking for uses slightly different words.
  3. Make your search more general. Try more general terms in place of specific ones.
  4. Try your search in a different scope. Different scopes can have different results.

I am unsure as to why this strange event is occuring.  We do not have the WSS Search component running in the MOSS environment as the SSP service should be able to index and server search queries at the portal and local site collection level.

Any thoughts to this?
