WSS 3.0 Outbound SMTP Relay

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have previously been using HMAIL as a free opensource SMTP relay. We have run into issues with throughput during notification to large groups of new item additions. Does anyone have a recomendation on free or open source solutions to address outbound mail. We are also looking at using exchange but it seems to me to be overkill for what we are trying to accomplish. Thank you in advance for any sugestions.

SMTP not working if I use web deployment package to deploy my app.

Hi all

I use msdeploy to install my web app. deployment package. everything about web app works, but find out email was not working.

I checked telnet smtp is running.

I debug the project, and it was sending out email too.

So my solution was upload the whole project (not complied) to wwwroot, and email works too. Thats why I assume the deployment cause the problem.

at last, I also tried to copy the web deployment web.config to replace the project's web.config, and the email also work, so it wasn't the web.config problem.

Could anyone tell me whats going on?

My environment:

window 2003

How to bind a WCF Http client to a specific outbound IPAddress before making the request

I want my request to go out through a specific IP Addresses. Is there a way to do that in WCF. The explanation of why I need this is a little long winded so i'd rather not get into that. Here is sample code string ipAddress = "192.168.0.32"; IService service; ChannelFactory<IOmlService> factory = new ChannelFactory<IService>(new BasicHttpBinding(), new EndpointAddress("http://" + IPAddress + ":6996/IService")); service = factory.CreateChannel(); service.Test(); Here is an example scenario to explain exactly what i'm looking for. Let's say I have two IPs on my machine (192.168.0.30 and 192.168.0.31). Both of them can hit 192.168.0.32. If i run this code now, it will hit the IP (.32) from any of my IPs (.30 or .31). How can i force it to go through a specific IP of mine (say .30). Is there any way to do that using WCF? Thanks

MOSS SMTP Issues

Hi, Does anyone know how to get around this problem: The user or users have been added successfully, but there was an error in sending the e-mail message. The server may not be set up correctly to send e-mail. To verify that e-mail is configured correctly, contact your server administrator. Thanks You've only got one life; help as many people as you can, and enjoy it while it lasts.

SMTP SENDMAIL corrupts some emails

At each month-end, we have several SQL 2000 jobs that mail that send out attached spreadsheets (local volume on the SQL server) to various recipients.  Recently, some of them started showing up unable to be opened.  The error messages usually allow you to click through, but the data is spread across a couple of worksheets and is not formatted properly. If the job is re-run, the attachment is sometimes delivered in a readable fashion, other times it is not. A separate test script that performs the same function seems to always deliver a usable spreadsheet attachment. We have no reason to believe it is the email or local virusscan (TrendMicro OfficeScan, TrendMicro ScanMail for Exchange), since we have appropriate exceptions in place. A search for relavent articles on "SMTP SENDMAIL CORRUPTION" doesn't turn up any obvious hits, so I don't think this is widespread or common. Anybody with some input? Thanks
