[SPD 2010]: CaCannot complete this action. Please try again

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi,

I am trying to open page on sharepoint site using SPD 2010. And getting the following error:

Cannot complete this action.  Please try again

ULS Logs:

Name=Request (POST:http://devsharep01:80/C/_vti_bin/webpartpages.asmx)

Site=/ Usage: Security - Web Services: GetWebPartPageDocument

Cannot complete this action.  Please try again.

default.aspx page is a custom "application page" which located into TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS and deployed via SiteDefinition in onet.xml. Into the site the page is located into RootFolder\default.aspx.

I can check it out, but cannot edit it.

I tried to open pages from TeamSite, but it does not work either.

I also tried to give each account full access for WebApplication level, but it did not help.

Furthermore, each settings on CA and SiteCollection level for SPD is ON.

Environemtn: WIN2008, MOSS 2010, SPD 2010

Any ideas?

P.S: In addition: http error is 500.

SharePoint 2010 in place upgrade "Cannot complete the action"

I currently did an inplace upgrade to SharePoint 2010 Standard in a medium farm deployment with one WFE and a remote SQL server with one site collection.  The upgrade process was marked as finished in CA.  The problem now is with the root site in the site collection is throwing the error "Cannot complete the action".  I've narrowed it down to the "Pages" library in the the root site.  The root site is using site template id = 20 template name = SPS#0, and template title = SharePoint Portal Server Site.  If I hard code the URL in IE address bar I can get everywhere on the root site including the settings page of the "Pages" library.  The error is thrown when I try to access the "Manage Permissions" link of the "Pages" library or when I try to browse to http://<rootsite>/pages/default.aspx. I believe the default.aspx page was customized by the customer when they were on SharePoint 2007 Standard.

Populate Treeview upon entered criteria and page action without complete page posting on client side

1. I have a treeview on left side in a panel in my aspx page and I have a Text box and a Search button on the right panel. On entering a search criteria and clicking the Search button, I want to get the data needed for the treeview (FYI - I have a webservice call for that) and then populate the treeview completely but keep it collapsed to the root node.

  Each time I enter the search criteria and click the Search button, I don't want to post the entire page (and also don't like the page flicker), how can I achieve this? I know that in order to avoid complete postback upon Search button click, I can do so by client callback and get the data needed for the treeview, but in this case, I have to build the treeview nodes as table - row/cells and handle all the events and handlers myself, which I want to avoid (also means that I won't be able to take advantage of the inherent expand and collapse capabilities of the Treeview). On the other hand, if I use the OnTreeNodePopulate event handling of the Treeview control, using the C# script code on the aspx markup, it doesn't recognize the entered criteria in the Text box. So either way,

"This document could not be checked out." SharePoint 2010 checkout action using IE8

I am setting up a two-server farm, and most everything works, except the checkout action for a document.  This problem occurs in both site collections, one of which requires checkout, and the other does not. Here are the options I've tried: Snow Leopard, Firefox 3.0.1 - works Snow Leopard, Safari - works Win 2003, IE 7 - works XP, Firefox - works XP, IE 8 - "This document could not be checked out.  You may not have permission to check out the document or it is already checked out or locked for editing by another user." In IE8, I am able to open a document as read only then use the button presented by Word to check out the document.  I cannot use that as a workaround, as not all users have a version of Office that will allow checkout in that way. Checkin works fine.  I need to resolve the checkout error.

Cannot complete this action &RootFolder=* bug?

Stock Sharepoint 2007 I created a Doc lib and added a new lookup colum to a list. when I click on the linked column in the document all items view I get a url that ends with &RootFolder=* and error page that says Cannot Complete this action. If I remove the &RootFolder from the url the page opens the expected item on the lookup list. Not sure if related, but this is an SSL site and we are on the RTM version of 2007 Thanks.

SPD 2010 status 'Canceled' when using action 'Replace List Item Permissions'

Hi,

I have been experiencing issues with using action "Replace List Item Permissions" with SPD 2010.
When adding an new list item the workflow runs as expected.
When editing the same item later, the workflowstatus gets "Canceled" and the joblog tells me:

09/22/2010 15:55:14.41  w3wp.exe (0x3584) 0x37B4 SharePoint Foundation Workflow Infrastructure 72fv Unexpected AutoStart Workflow: Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: Recursive workflows are not permitted. at Microsoft.SharePoint.Workflow.SPWorkflowAutostartEventReceiver.<>c__DisplayClass1.<AutoStartWorkflow>b__0(SPSite superUserSite, SPWeb superUserWeb)

The Workflow uses the options
- "Start workflow automatically when an item is created"
- "Start workflow automatically when an item is changed"

My environment is:
- MOSS 2010 Enterprise RTM english with german languagepacks
- SharePoint Designer 2010, Version 14.0.4760.1000

Any ideas why this error is occurring and how to resolve it?
Thanks, Stefan.

How to add a custom action (a link) to Central Administration quick launch in sharepoint 2010 ?

Hello everyone,
How can I add a link to Central administration quick launch? There are several links in Central administration quick launch by default under "Central administration" text ("System settings", "Monitoring", "Backup and Restore", "Security", "Upgrade and Migration", "General Application Settings", "Application Management", "Configuration Wizards"). How can I add new link under "Configuration Wizards". And I tried  but it doesn't work. A link appeared on the Central administration page but it isn't displayed at the quick launch (left panel) .
I did that as follows:

----elements.xml----

<Elements xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/">
  <CustomActionGroup
       Id="CA_TestQuickLink"
       Location="Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.Default"
       Title="Test Menu Quick Link"
       Sequence="250"
       RequiredAdmin="Delegated"

how to solve "Cannot complete this action." error on Require documents to be checked out with https

Hi,

In our SharePoint environment, when the user try to change "Require documents to be checked out before they can be edited?" to Yes in "Document Library Versioning Settings" screen in Default mode, it works fine. But if the user do the same action in "Internet" mode which we configured as "https", it throws the error like "Cannot complete this action. Please try again."

Could anyone please let me know about how to resolve this issue?

Sharepoint Services 3.0 - Cannot complete action. Please try again. No access to any site or Centr

I had a nice working sharepoint services 3.0 environment, which I added some webparts to.  these webparts worked fine, although it said I had no permission to view the data it was trying to get to (which is hosted on another server).

I changed the authntication to windows integrated in the Central Administration part, created a new account which is a domain admin and added to the WSS and IIS groups, which would have the permissions to view the other servers data, and did a setspn to register the HTTP and to put is against that user.

Now I cannot access Central Administration or the site at all and although I have changed it all back, I get Cannot complete this action please try again.  I have already spoken to microsoft concierge and followed a barrage of pages, and they say to post here.

Any helpers out there today?

Hello All,

We have two nodes clustered 2008 SQL server running 5 instances (one default instance and the rest named instances). The default instance failed over to node 2 and now I cannot fail it back to node 1 and keep getting the following error when I try to move the instance I get the following error in Failover Cluster Managemen:

" The action 'Move to node SQLNV1' did not complete. An error occurred moving the clustered services or application 'SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)'. the operation failed because either the specified cluster node is not the owner of the group, or the node is not possible owner of the group"

Thanks in advance!

Fabulous 40 for SP 2010 - Installation Complete but Templates not visible

Hello,

I downloaded and intalled some of the great fabulous 40 solutions. First of all checked all prerequisites and turned features on if needed:

- SharePoint Server Enterprise Site Collection features (OK)
- SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure (OK)
- Sharepoint 2007 workflows (OK)

- SharePoint Server Standard Site features (OK)
- SharePoint Server Publishing (OK)

Then uploaded the solutions and activated them. They show pretty good in the solutions list. But I can't see each of them when creating a new website. I am using the German version of sharepoint. Does this matter?

Kind regards
Patrick
