Have search results display the filename of a word doc, instead of the Title Metadata

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Im currently implementing a campus wide search service, based on MOSS 2007. It obviously indexes a lot of Word documents.

If the word document has no value in its 'Title' metadata (properties of the document) then the filename is displayed in the search results page, and if a title value is present then this is shown instead. However, whoever created our word templates put the value SU_REPORT into the title value of the template and so ALL of our documents now have this in (yes stupid i know!) Nobody every changes these, so we have a lot of docs that when displayed in the search results show a meaningless name of SU_REPORT

So my question is, can  i modify the behaviour of search so that if the title is blank OR the title = "SU_report" then the filename is displayed instead?

I'm guessing that this is done either via the XSLT to control the display in the Core Results WebPart, or maybe it can be done at the metadata level by disconnecting the title property (i'd rather not do this because it is very occasionally useful!)

Any advice greatfully receieved

Search Results Customization - Display Document LibraryTitle Instead of Document Metadata Title

I am running a pretty basic SharePoint 2010 setup that is being used as an intranet for my organization.  This also includes service up internal documents to our users.  Currently, our documents are displayed on various pages using the CQWP and are organized by title as dictated by the document library title.  As part of the search capabilities of this site, I have implemented a basic search page to return results on the documents from this list.  The problem I am running into is that the search results are displaying results based on the metadata title of the actual document instead of the assigned document library title. My questions are this: How do I change the search results so they display based on the document library title? How do I view what columns are currently being crawled by the search capabilities? Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide!

Search results doesn't show Word document Title Properties

The search result doesn't show the Word document's Title properties.

For example a Office 2007 Word document has Title properties as "Dell, Template (MN 520287) Test Method", the first word in the document is "Opearation".

The Search result shows the search result with the first word of the document as the search result as

How to display a count of search results with keywords in a label?

Sorry for a basic post here; I am very new to VB!

I am currently building a search page, which includes a textbox and two drop-down lists, a search button, and a datagrid. If results are found and displayed, I would like a label to display:

(e.g.) "24 results found for 'blue sky clouds' "

...where the integer represents the results count, and the keywords and/or drop-down list selections are included in the string.

If no results are found I would like the label to display:

(e.g.) "No results were found that match your selection. Please try again"

I would also like the label to be invisible until a search occurs.

Thanks in advance!

How can I prioritise search results to show where document metadata has a hit first and then where t

When my users run a search against a site with a bunch of document libraries they will often search for terms that are in the title of the doc, if they do know the title they will put that in. What I would like to do is have the results ordered such that if any hits are on the document metadata (eg Title) then they are presented first and any results that are from hits on the content of the documents are presented later.

So, if they get the title spot on in their search query that document will appear first .... if they don't get it right then the likelyhood is that the title is something like what they entered so similar titled docs are presented first and then those with matching content ....

How can I achieve this?

Why does the Search Results show the wrong Title?

All my documents have the Title property set, yet when I perform a search, the result result is displaying the first word it finds in the documnet as the Title? Display Managed Metadata with Custom Search

Hello everyone, I made a custom Search page in VS 2010 and exported it to Sharepoint Foundation with Search Server. I want to use it to search for custom folders i have created which have a metadata field, a descriptive text. I have created a managed property and mapped it to the metadata of the folder content type. Also, the metadata shows up in the library view. Now, when i want the Metadata to show up in the results page of my search, i get "Field of property with name mappedfieldname wasnt found in the selected data source" error. when i pick a field like title instead, it works. but with a vast number of other fields i get the same error, like filename or filetype. i tried this on three servers, one of them with sharepoint server on it, everytime getting the same error. i did crawls everytime, i created the managed property, mapped it, i dont know what the problem is. help would be greatly appreciated.   Edit: i use datagrid to display the results,         i can also use the managed property in the search query; like filename:"1.txt", but i cant display the very same property in the result grid.

Display files (where we dont have access to) in Search Results- Sharepoint 2007

Is there a way in which we can make the sharepoint search result display- files where we dont have access to ?

The requirement is that-

There are many files stored in document libraries which are either "Shared" or "Confidential"

Now normally The Confidential documents are not displayed in the search result of sharepoint search. (Since access to those files are denied)

Is There a way in which we make these files appear in the search result ? However when the user clicks on the URL/Title of the file the "Access Denied Page" is displayed (If the user doesnt have access).

This is because we dont want the files (Which are declared confidential) to be re-created.

implementing a search similar to what you have in google when you type in a word

Dear all;

I have a textbox and what I would like to implement is basically a situation similar to what you have in google when you type in a word. In otherwords,

in the textbox when you type in J, it should generate a list of names that starts with O in alphabetical order, then next when you type in o, so that now you have Jo, it should generate a list of names instead that now starts with Jo in alphabetical order, then again when you type in h, it should generate a list of names that starts with Joh and so on. A sample code could be helpful. Thank you. No Javascript of Jquery please. All help will be greatly appreciated.

Full text search in a Word document

I´m currently programming a web search application in ASP.Net and having problem with full text searching. My requirements are:

1. Save a byte array from SQL server to word document as a temp file in a server side?

2. How to highlight the string I am currently searching in the Word document and return to the user the sentence with the highlighted string (like on Bing or any other search engines)? Is it possible to fullfill this requirement with full-text search integrated in SQL Server 2008?

Thanks in advance,

No Results matching your search were found. WSS 3.0

I've got one sharepoint 3.0 site, which is a hostNamedSiteCollection which won't return any results when we search it - searching the entire site or a single list both produce the same "no results matching your search were found".
The site uses Windows Authentication.  We have no Alternate Access Mappings set up. It is regular HTTP
I've added test content to other sites housed in the same Web Application and searched - that new data is appearing in the results.
I did a backup using STSADM and restored the site to my dev server (as both a hostNamedSiteCollection & a regular site collection) - searches return results just fine.
I deleted the site from the prod server and restored it (into a different content database even!) from a backup  I made with STSADM - no results are returned.
I restored the site to the same web application as a Standard site (http://webapp/sites/sitename) (NOT a host named site collection) and results ARE returned.

I've looked at the trace logs & application logs on the server, but can't find any errors that I can tell might be related..

This is the only site I've ever seen have this problem.  We have plenty of other hostNamedSiteCollections and search is working fine on them.

Exclude the author name from the search results

How can i prevent author's name to appear in search results. shows many results when i search the "author.name".

I want, MOSS 2007 Search get results from the content only the user sees.

FAST Search for SP2010 scope setting works but not getting results.

I am trying this from last two days , but it does not work. I have created two scopes for FAST Search Query SSA , they appear in search center , but I am not getting any results back. I see them being fired in the FAST query log.

First one is a simple one:

New-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope -SearchApplication "FAST Query SSA" -Name DCO -Description "All DCO Documents" -DisplayInAdminUI 1 -ExtendedSearchFilter "ContentSource:DCO"

Content source is a managed property. and i can just query "contentsource:dco" from the text box which gives me results.

When I fire the query i see it in FAST Search query log

"GET /cgi-bin/search?qtf_keyword:context=ssgid%3a%3a4d020606-8532-45d8-b09a-db11283cccb4%7cSPS-Location%3a%3a%7cSPS-Responsibility%3a%2c%3a%7c&rpf_navigation:hits=50&rpf_navigation:enabled=True&spell=suggest&qtf_parsekw:timezone=10&type=kwall&qtf_teaser:dynlength=185&resubmitflags=8192&language=en&query=CASHIERING&sortby=%2bdefault&qtf_lemmatize=True&offset=0&version=

Can I search Office Documents (Excel, Word etc) in WSS 3.0 without having to install MS Office?

Does WSS 3.0 come with the filters for searching MS Office Documents or do you have to have MS Office installed on WSS 3.0 Server?

Search does not find text in Word document stored in document library on a Report Center site within

We have a document library on a site created off of the Report Center site template. We uploaded a Word 2007 document with the word zebra in the text. Using the search bar at the top of the page we selected This list: Our document library and searched for zebra. We received no results.

We tested the same thing on another site (site template Team site) within the same site collection and search worked fine.

Does the Report Center search function differently then the search functionality on the Team site?

Excel file not showing in search results

We have a strange issue. I have one Excel document (or at least one that I am aware of) that will not show up in search results for content within the document. I can find the document by title just fine, but when I search for words within the document I do not see it. The document was originally a 2003 Excel document and was recently converted to 2007. Other than that there isn't really anything unusual about it (some formatting stuff, but mainly just background colors and whatnot, nothing fancy). The crawl log shows the document was crawled without error. Anyone know anything else I can check on?
