Creating Table from DataSet

Hello all,

Real simple one here.  I'd like to create a table on my Page from a DataSet.  It looks like I have it working properly, but what I'd like to do is interpret the columns, as well as be selective with which column to display.

            Dim dc As DataColumn
            Dim dr As DataRow

            For Each dr In ds.Tables(0).Rows

                Dim trow As New TableRow

                For Each dc In ds.Tables(0).Columns

                    Dim tcell As New TableCell

                    tcell.Controls.Add(New LiteralControl(dr(dc.ColumnName).ToString))

I would like specific columns, by name or position doesnt matter.

So if a column is = named column, then addcell

and also, the data needs to be interpreted: If value of column = x then response.write("y")

In sum, I dont want all the columns, just specific ones, then I was to interpret whats in that cell, and write something.

For Each dc In ds.Tables(0).Columns

New to ASP.Net & C# - help creating ADO wrapper

In my project, I have all database connectivity established in my aspx.cs page.  I want to move all calls to the database to a class called DatabaseAccess.  I am repeating calls to the database throughout my code and this would simplify things.

I have code written to open the connection and it is working fine.  I am now lost on what to do next.  I need to establish my cmd object and parameters through my class as well.  Here is my code on my aspx.cs page where I am declaring the command and adding the parameters.

I am also including my DataAccess class where I have included my open connection.  Can anyone tell me where to start.  I am new to asp.net and c#, this is the first class that I have written.  Any help would be GREAT!!

ASPX.CS page

   //Declare connection object
            SqlConnection Conn = new SqlConnection();
            string sError = "";

            if (dac.OpenSqlConnection(ref Conn, strConn, out sError) == false)
                lblMessage.Text = "Error Connection to Database: " + sError;

        //Define query
        string sql = "UPDATE Customer SET FirstName=@FirstName, LastName=@LastName, Email=@Email, Password=@Password, Address1=@Address1, Address2=@Address2, City=@City, State=@State

creating dataset using list of objects in Linq

 I am using Linq To Sql to get List of objects with data from database. To bind data with a grid view i am creating a dataset explicitly and then adding List values to that explicitly created dataset.

Now my question is whether it is a good pratice to do what i am doing (in terms of resource utilization) or is there any better way to this...

Creating Dataset Dynamically in c# and passing to Report Viewer..

 It sounds silly!! but i can't figure out how to get the data to the report viewer from the dataset that i have created in c#. because my dataset is dynamic and the columns would vary every time when i load into the report viewer. i read thru most of the articles but was unable to figure houw to work this out.

the data set for eg i created is:-

private DataSet getDataSet()
   string sql = "";
   OdbcDataAdapter adptr = new OdbcDataAdapter(sql, _connection);
   DataSet ds = new DataSet();
   return ds;

and from this dataset i have to create the report viewer. this is created in cs page of the aspx page where the report viewer is. also i have a blank report.rdlc. please help me thru this...

Creating your SharePoint Governance Plan

One of the most common questions that I get from prospects as I'm talking to them about the creation of a governance plan and process is what does it look like. In other words, there are materials available which describe what should be in a governance plan but there isn't a ton of guidance on what the process of creating a governance plan and process are.

Creating Paging for a Repeater Control

A common question is "How do I implement paging within a Repeater?" Although the beauty of the Repeater control is its flexibility, you're on your own for building most functions. ASP.NET 2.0 has included some new controls that provide paging, as does the DataGrid in ASP.NET 1.1. However, this tip shows you how to roll your own paging for a simple data viewer.

Creating an AJAX Repeater in ASP.NET MVC

The "TaskList" is a tried an true example of the most basic thing that you can do in any framework. Unfortunately, I had some problems finding a really good example of all the steps necessary to get a task list to work in ASP.NET MVC 1.0.

Creating a Generic Entity Framework 4.0 Repository

With .NET 4.0 right around the corner, I thought it would be cool to download Visual Studio 2010 beta 2 and start playing around with the next release of Entity Framework.

The initial release of Entity Framework came with a great deal of criticism. To make matters worse, there was a large uproar when it was rumored that Microsoft would be abandoning LINQ to SQL, in favor of Entity Framework. This was because, at the time, many developers felt Entity Framework was an inferior technology to LINQ to SQL. To set things right, Microsoft proactively moved forward with improving Entity Framework, in time for the 4.0 release of the .NET Framework. This is good news because my initial impressions, so far, have been nothing but positive.

Creating a Simple Class in C#

The second article in the C# Object-Oriented Programming tutorial describes how classes are created in C# and how behaviour, in the form of publicly visible and private, hidden methods can be added. This demonstrates some of the uses of encapsulation

Creating SharePoint items with CreateItemActivity

Instead of creating new list items from code in your workflow you can use CreateItemActivity. CreateItemActivity can be used for creating list items or files. Properties of interest for this activity are the following (most of them are self-explanatory):

Introducing ADO.NET and the Typed DataSet

In reviewing the applications it seemed everything they were doing involved database reads, writes, and manipulation. Create and Use a Typed DataSet by Using Visual C# .NET

This article shows you how to create and use a typed DataSet in a small Web application. Typed DataSets, which inherit from the DataSet class, create first-class members of a DataSet's DataTables and DataColumns, yielding the many benefits that come with the use of strong typing.
