Cannot deploy custom MemshipProvider/RoleProvider assembly to web-site

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 15, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have written an assembly (DLL) containing two classes, MyMembershipProvider and MyRoleProvider, which are derived from MembershipProvider and RoleProvider, respectively.  I have implemented most but not all of the abstract methods; the remaining ones all throw a NotImplementedException.  I have signed the assembly and added a reference to it in my web-site project, where the relevant web.config sections look like this:

<membership defaultProvider="MyMembershipProvider">
    <add name="MyMembershipProvider" type="MyAuthentication.MyMembershipProvider"/>

<roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="MyRoleProvider">
    <add name="MyRoleProvider" type="MyAuthentication.MyRoleProvider"/>

When I fire up the site, however, I get the following error:

Configuration Error

Can I deploy a custom site page from the VS2010 SharePoint project?

Hi We're setting up some demos of our sharepoint plugins and want to easily deploy these into sharepoint so that all members of the company can easily get the demos running on their own machines. This is fine for layouts, web parts and so on - but the demo also has a customised sharepoint home page (which I edited in SP Designer) - how do I make this edited home page part of the VS2010 project so that it can be deployed easily to any site collection?   Thanks

How to deploy custom assembly to Sharepoint and invoke it from Silverlight or WPF client?

I apologize upfront because my questions are probably trivial, but I don’t even know the correct wording to search for solution. We have C# assembly which performs some OpenXML processing and now we need to “plant” it to Sharepoint 2010 server, so that it can be invoked from the client to work on server documents.

1.     How (in what form) do we deploy it to the server, so that it is accessible (invocable) from the client code? We use VS 2010 for development.

Create Custom Site Template & Deploy as Farm Solution

So I've seen a few posts and blogs about this, but nothing with the specific error I'm getting.  All I'm trying to do is create a custom site template from an existing site (now WSP), and make that custom template available in CA so I can create host-named site collections from that template in PowerShell.  Apparenly this was a lot easier in 2007, as you could just save your template as STP, and run some stsadm addsolution to get it in the farm.  With 2010, I've read there are 2 options:

  1. Install-SPWebTemplate
  2. Deploy via Visual Studio 2010

I've tried running Install-SPWebTemplate (which only takes CAB files), and NOTHING I do works.  I've created a cab from the WSP with makecab, I've renamed the WSP to CAB, and all I get is "cannot find or parse web template file".  So on to VS2010.

Using this article as a guide (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff408263.aspx), I created a new 2010 Import existing solution project, left all items selected, and the import was successful.  I made a change or two to the ONET.xml to fix some things, and then I just try to deploy it to the farm.  Whether I set the URL to the root intranet site, or the CA URL, I get deployment conflict errors:

Apply custom.master to "Site Settings" page?

I'm using a custom.master page, which is applied to almost all pages available to READ users.

However, I'd like to apply it to the Search, Site Settings, and View All Site Content pages.

I'm not sure where this would be applied.

Guidance much appreciated. Thanks!

Sharepoint 2007 - Wiki site - New Pages Not Inheriting Custom Master Page

I am working on a SP site (MOSS not WSS) which is heavily customised away from the OOTB layout. I need to create a Wiki site, which was going well - I've created a master page which displays the miniconsole (this was not visible with our customised layout), and made it the default master page for the site. This has been applied to the two standard pages that come with the Wiki site, however when a new page is created, it seems to inherit the default.master, rather than my custom master page - thus not showing the miniconsole.

When I have created a new page, I am able to use SharePoint Designer to attach my custom master page to it, which works perfectly, however this will not be a viable option going forward as end-users create their new wiki pages.

How can I get the new pages to inherit my master page when they are created?

Adding a custom ASP page to a sharepoint 3.0 site

I have a custom ASP page that I need to add to my sharepoint 3.0 web site.  I created a virtual directory under my website and placed the ASP file.  When I link to the ASP file, I get a 404 page not found.  To make sure I had the correct URL path, I created a test html file and placed in the same virtual directory and linked to it just fine.  I think it has something to do with managed paths and sharepoint trying to control this new ASP content.  I cannot figure out how to exclude this content from managed paths.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue so I can run this custom ASP file under sharepoint 3.0?

Slow load time of custom assembly on x64 compared to x86.

I am developing an application that automatically generates assemblies using the CSharpCodeProvider (.Net Framework 3.5).  These assemblies contain a single class with a very large number of local variables and methods.  After compilation I create an instance of this class (using Activator.CreateInstance) to be used elsewhere in the application.  When the application is deployed on a 32-bit system (tested on Win 7 Prof 32-bit and on Win XP) the CreateInstance method returns after 1 or 2 seconds, i.e. it first JITs the assembly before creating the instance.  However, on a 64-bit system (tested on Win 7 Home 64-bit, Win Server 2003 64-bit and Win Server 2008 64-bit) CreateInstance takes up to 5 minutes to return. Is there any reason why it would be that much slower on a 64-bit machine? I have tried many different options when compiling, such as setting the platform to x64, using the /optimize flag, etc, but none of these have made a difference. I also tried calling PrepareMethod on all the method in the class.  When I do this in the 32-bit environment, it takes approximately 10 seconds.  In the 64-bit environment it takes more than 3 minutes. As a last resort I tried ngen before constructing the object, but this made no difference in the execution time.

"Mixed mode assembly is built against version 'v2.0.50727'.... " issue and use custom config file

Hi, My Winform applilcation has used Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common namespace(assembly :Microsoft.Sqlserver.smo.dll/Microsoft.Sqlserver.ConnectionInfo.dll) and developed in .NET 4.0. Problem:Application is throw an exception when it tries to use above assembly reference methods. Full error text is shown below, "Mixed mode assembly is built against version 'v2.0.50727' of the runtime and cannot be loaded in the 4.0 runtime without additional configuration information. That column type is "Publishing HTML", and it allows to define HTML table. I am unable to add a screenshot here...so, any clues? Also, can we copy the custom site column as a template and move it to another Site Collection? Regards, Kishore.  Kishore

Hi,    I need to remove a web part from a custom site defintion. The links web part needs to be removed from the site defintion.  I have recreated the site definition from sts . I found this good article (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sharepoint/archive/2007/03/22/customizing-moss-2007-my-sites-within-the-enterprise.aspx). but a bit lost as i can't find the wp.gettype method the author is using. Cannot get the right permission for a Custom Assembly

Has anyone managed to deploy a custom assembly that involves calls to System.Data.SqlClient and System.Configuration (to get the connection string for the database)? I've been fighting this one for a day or two and know that the answer means finding the right mix of asserting permissions in the assembly and granting them in config files. It seems that MS have tied down the security aspects of this so as to make the facility almost unusable! I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64, SQL Server 2008 R2 (Express) and Visual Studio 2010 for development. Yet the documentation is sparse - to say the least. Does anyone know of a document that will tell me what to do?

How to deploy dashboards made in dashboard designer to diferent site collections?

Hi I just migrated from sharepoint 2007 to 2010. We used to have performance point dashboards spread across libraries in subsites all across our primary site collection "Http://server:x" after I migrated I understand that I must migrate all performance point content to a new site or site collection made with the business intellingence template. I created a new site collection with this template (Http://server:x/sites/pps) and succesfully migrated all performance point content. Now I want to redeploy all the dashboards to their respective subsites in the  "Http://server:x" site collection so that everything looks exactly as it did when we where using SharePoint 2007. But when I try to deploy to a site I only get the option to deploy it to the ("Http://server:x/sites/pps") site collection and its respective libraries. I wish to manage all dashboard content centralized in (Http://server:x/sites/pps) but I want to deploy dashboards to libraries across  "Http://server:x" is this posible or how is Performance Point services supossed to work?   I also having trouble with DashBoard designer. I have everthing running on a Virtual Machine test enviroment. With windows server 2008 r2, 4 gb ram. Everything installed in one machine. And Suddently DashBoard Designer Crashes In the event log I get the error Dashboa

Creating a new root Site Collection using a custom site definition file (ONET.XML)

Using Powershell, I am trying to deploy the our custom solution to SP 2010.  The script is doing the following: Deleting the web application using Remove-SPWebApplication Creating a new web application using New-SPWebApplication Adding and deploying a series of WSP files (one of which has the site definition file in it) using Add-SPSolution and Install-SPSolution Create a root site collection based on the site definition file provided in the WSPs using New-SPSite I get the error "WARNING: Template is not found and is not applied." When I run Get-SPWebTemplate, my site definition does not show up. I saw this: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepoint2010general/thread/5ea46e07-a4b0-4bab-b698-9b6eeb695607 but I want a solution that does not involve me reloading a DLL, as, I feel there is something else I am forgetting. I have also tried: IISReset Resetting the timer service Cleaning the Cache (as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939308) Nothing seems to work.  Does anyone have any ideas?
