VS2010 RTM bug?? Error Occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': Value cannot be null. Parameter

I'm getting this error with Visual Studio 2010 (RTM) deploying to SharePoint 2010 (also RTM).

An "Empty SharePoint Solution" project with an OOB "Module" item added. Try to deploy and I get:

Error Occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': Value cannot be null. Parameter name: s

The account I'm developing with has:

  • Domain Admin
  • Local Admin
  • SharePoint Farm Admin
  • Site Collection Admin
  • SQL "sysadmin"
  • SQL "DBOwner" on all config / content databases
  • UAC is disabled

The WSP package is created successfully, and if I roll it out using STSADM then it works perfectly. For some reason though Visual Studio 2010 thinks that it cannot be deployed!

Any ideas??

Parameter error writing to excell 2007 file using SQL 2008 Server Agent JOB, works in BIDS.

I am getting the following error message when I try to run a script that writes to an excel file calling my Package with a SQL 2008 JOB.

Executed as user: xxxx\xxxxxxx. Microsoft (R) SQL Server Execute Package Utility  Version 10.0.1600.22 for 32-bit  Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1984-2005. All rights reserved.    Option "12.0;HDR=YES;" is not valid.  The command line parameters are invalid.  The step failed.

This same package runs correctly if I execute it in dev mode in BIDS.  I had to set 64bitmode to false in Dev mode to get it to work.  I set executable options in the job step to 'run in 32 bit mode'  The error message indicates to me it is trying to run in 32 bit mode which should be correct but it doesn't like the extended parameters. .

Here is my connection string from the data sources tab on the job

Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=c:\xxxx.xlsx;Extended Properties="EXCEL 12.0;HDR=YES";

This was filled in ny the connection object for me.  I have read the article closely at http://toddmcdermid.blogspot.com/2009/10/quick-reference-ssis-in-32-and-64-bits.html and still can't figure out what I need to change.

Error on mapping oracle varchar2 to sql server 2008 using import facility, defaults to type 129 in m

I am trying to use the import wizard to import an oracle 10g table into an sql server 2008 (10.0.2531) database, it comes up with the error 'data types of source columns were not mapped correctly to those available on the destination provider'. When I go into 'edit mappings' it shows all the varchar2 oracle columns mapping to type 129 ? all the other columns have normal mapping types. If i go through and change 129 to varchar the import will work ok.

I understand that in c:\Program files\microsoft sql server\100\dts\mappingfiles there is a series of files that map datatypes to/from different sources, there are 3 files

oracleclienttomssql , oracleclienttomssql10 , oracleclienttossis10 which have a varchar2 to nvarchar mapping

and 2 other files  oracletomssql ,  oracletomssql10 which map varchar2 to varchar and one other file, oracletossis10 which maps varchar2 to dt_str

I running the import on a server with an Oracle client installed with sql server 2008 (10.0.2531).

I am not sure which mapping file is being used ? and whichever one is being used it should provide a mapping rather than type 129 (whatever that is).

I would like to get this mapping resolved as I have many tables to import and over time the structure of the Oracle tables will change so I want to use import as the easiest optio

Hi there.

I have been sitting hours and hours trying to solved this issue with absolutely no luck.

I have the following query:

Compare a parameter with is null returns an error

When I try to execute a query that compares a parameter with is null, I get an error "The specified argument value for the function is not valid. [ Argument # = 1,Name of function(if known) = isnull ]"

This occurs with SQL Server CE 3.5 SP2 for Windows Mobile. With SQL Server CE 3.5 without SP1 or SP2 this error doesn't accurs.

A couple of days ago I started getting an unusual behavior when compiling Website projects. I have referenced class libraries added to my bin folder that are also correctely referenced in using statements in my aspx.cs code behind. When I compile, I get the

Error upgrading SQL Server 2008

i was normally using VS2005 and SQL server 2005...

i upgraded to SQL Server 2008... and then...

i could not build my project anymore... because of this error:

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

type object parameter

I have a problem I can't figure out.

I've been trying to add a listbox with multi select enabled as a parameter to my select statement in sqldatasource.

So i created a function like this :

string strItemTypes = "";
foreach (ListItem li in lbItemType.Items)
   if (li.Selected)
      strItemTypes += "," + li.Value;
strItemTypes = strItemTypes.Substring(1);

which gives me the selected items like this for example : "1,2,3"...
Then I've been trying to add it to my sql select statement :

SELECT tblOfficesItems.idOfficesItems, tblStockItems.Name, tblStockItems.Description, tblStockItemTypes.TypeItem, tblStockItems.Notes FROM tblOfficesItems INNER JOIN tblStockItems ON tblOfficesItems.fkItem = tblStockItems.idItem INNER JOIN tblStockItemTypes ON tblStockItems.fkTypeItem = tblStockItemTypes.idTypeItem WHERE tblStockItems.fkTypeItem IN ( @fkTypeItems )

using a hiddenfield with a controlparameter of type=object
but it just don't seem to work, seems like the data just won't bind or something and I don't get any errors so I'm confused!!

then i tried this :

SELECT tblOfficesItems.idOfficesItems, tblStockItems.Name

Im using Enterprise library 5.0
I have a scenario, where I have to access two different databases in my application.

Basically this application is a webservice,delployed on my local for testing purpose.
I'm trying to access this web method from diffent windows application, default connection works fine but the other database throw's exception.

Problem is only my defaultDatabase is works fine, if I change defaultDatabase="MYCON1" with "MYCON2" it works fine, if I try to access the other database which is not default, throws exception.

<dataConfiguration defaultDatabase="MYCON1" />
<add name="MYCON1" connectionString="Data Source=server1;Initial Catalog=dbName1;User Id=Username1;Password=password1;"

" />
<add name="MYCON2" connectionString="Data Source=Server2;Initial Catalog=dbName2;User Id=Username2;Password=password2;"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

Database myDB=EnterpriseLibraryContainer.Current.GetInstance<Database>(); --> works fine for the default database (MYCON1)

Database myDB=EnterpriseLibraryCo

"Type ASP.x is not defined" error for dynamic user control when publishing updateable

I have a user control (ContainerCtrl) which programmatically instantiates another user control (SimpleCtrl) in OnLoad. It builds and runs fine, but when I publish it I get the error "error BC30002: Type 'ASP.SimpleCtrl' is not defined." (If I publish without the "updateable" option there's no error, but I need the site to be updateable.)

I assume this has to do with the particulars of how the assembly(ies) are built for the different compiler options. My question is, how can I get it to work properly for "updateable" publishing?

VS 2008 / .NET 3.5 sp1

The code follows (web.config is the default from Visual Studio).

Many thanks, Dave

Error Handling: Throwing Custom Exception Types from a Managed COM+ Server Application

Exception handling semantics in .NET are based on type, so you can create custom exceptions that have their own properties and methods. In .NET, exceptions are first-class citizens, and since they're the built-in error handling mechanism, all .NET-compliant languages must support exceptions. In addition, COM+ services are available to .NET code as Enterprise Services, so you can leverage exceptions in your Enterprise Services design.In this article the author describes custom exceptions, throwing exceptions across COM interop boundaries, and working with Enterprise Services.

Types in Yukon: Managed UDTs Let You Extend the SQL Server Type System

The next version of SQL Server, code-named "Yukon," will offer enhanced support for user-defined types (UDTs). Because UDTs can be managed by the CLR, you can represent a wide variety of data structures to create types not possible with previous versions of SQL Server. With UDTs you can more precisely control the kind of data your type accepts, resulting in better data management. This article explores UDTs in "Yukon" and covers their design and implementation.
