Posted By:      Posted Date: October 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WCF
How can i log all request\response ("bad" also) for some endpoint ? Trace Listener provide info about all that exist ... MessageInspectors not receive messages if for example security check failed.

Message whine logging

I use Login control to authenticate users and when users enter username and password web server contacts sql server to authenticate. Problem is that operation sometimes takes a few seconds, especially on first start. I want to user see message "logging in progress..." on that few seconds. I would normally use button.onclick client event to write message but it seems to Login control (with built-in button) does't have client events at all (!!). I tried to use server-side event "LoggingIn" but that event is unusable, I set sql server service offline and when click to "Log In" button, webserver is trying to connect about 10 seconds but server side-event "LoggingIn" not fired!

Configure message logging at runtime

I have my client and service setup for no message logging. It was my understanding, that if I have my service running, that I could go into PowerShell and enable the logging of messages at the service level at runtime:

$service.LogMessagesAtServiceLevel= 1

I thought that if I kept calling my operations after this, log files would be generated.

Is this correct? Do I need to turn something else on?

Custom Message Logging Listener logKnownPii=true (Getting client IP)

I have implemented a custom trace listener for WCF message logging. this listener writes stuff to SQL and sends emails on errors. all is good so far.

now i wanted to log also the client IP that called my service from my trace listener. i know about the logKnownPii attribute. i set it to true on both my machine.config and web.config. but it seems to have no affect at all. my relevant configuration is as follows:

Inserting personal error message in ValidationSummary

I am creating a web form that requires a lot of validation. I use many of the validation control in asp.net already like RequiredFieldValidator and CompareValidator.

My Problem: after my custom validation for the value entered return an error message, and I pressed enter key when the field is empty, my custom error message is overlapped by my ValidationSummary.

Setting my custom error to visible = false on button click also does not seem to work as it requires for me to enter the value first.

This made me think, is there a way to insert my custom validation inside the ValidationSummary as an error message like for other validation control?

Thanks in advance

UpdatePanel is not a known element - message when upgrading to 1.0 ajax

It worked on one of my old pages.  I change the web.config, renamed all the <asp.

On some aspx page it doesn't recognize the updatepanel.  It only does on one page.  If I create a new aspx page with a different name - then it works.

Should I just create a new web project ajax - then copy all my code into there?  Or is there a way to get those old pages to recognize the new ajax controls?

create user wizard login error message dont show in a message box?

i am using create user wizard and capturing other information within content template when a new user

registers. Some of the textboxes are binded to required field validators.

there is a validation control on the page and ShowMessage box is True.

If they dont complete some of the text boxes then the message box pops Up with the error message.

It does not however include information errors like "User already exists" or Email address already exists

from the create user wizard membership  UserName and Password Textboxes

is it possilbe to hook all of these up so I get one message box with all errors including membership ones?

Very Basic Question - Error message running first page

Hi Everyone,

I am running Windows 7 and I have gone into Control Panel and activated all of the IIS Functions.

The web application I am running was downloaded from the net (and has worked on other machines previously).  Once I downloaded it, I moved it into C:/inetpub/wwwroot/code/main.asp

I am a bit of a novice at this!  But I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction!

I get the following error when I try and run the web application through IE:

"An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator. If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error."

(When i click the "click here" button it just goes to the IIS site).

Appreciate any help I can get!

Using the ConsoleTraceListener with the Enterprise Library 3.1 Logging Block

I'm new to using the Logging application block.  I think I have a pretty good handle on how things work.  However, I'm running into a problem.  I'm using the RollingFlatFileListener and I have formatted the logging template to be more like the logging we are replacing.  However, in our console apps when the ConsoleTraceListener is added it still logs it out in the default text template format.  Is there any way to get around this?  Currently it looks like I will have to create a new TraceListener called FormattedConsoleListener that allows a text formatter to be associated with it.  Is this the only way?

Data Truncation issue with Enterprise Library Logging WriteLog stored Proc

Hi ,

I'm using Enterprise Library Logging  feature for logging. The issue i am facing is when the Logging message is too large(more than 65534 chars) ,complete data  is not logged in the Formatted Mesage column which is  of data Type nText .

I am able insert complete data if i try inserting from Sql insert Query from sql management studio. Do i need to add any attributes to data base listener or do i need to change the sp.

Is there any way to increase the WriteLog stored proc param size in EnterpriseLibrary.Logging config file ? . Please let me know.

Thanks In Advance.

Localize framework message from xml validation error

I need to validate an XML through XSD. I am using XMLReader (with XmlReaderSettings and

Validation_EventHandler to do it). Depend on users preference, I would like to change the output message generated by  Validation_EventHandler in french or english.

Any idea on how to perform this?

Cloud Diagnostics: Take Control of Logging and Tracing in Windows Azure

It's difficult to troubleshoot any application without a trail of clues to follow, and cloud apps are no different. We look at how logging and tracing are enabled for Windows Azure, and how you can use Windows PowerShell to manage diagnostics for a running service.
