Changing host name of a SP publising site and my site

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have a site sharepoint site that I want to change the host name, I just want to know if there is detail instruction on what has to be done.

It was setup with NLB,1 indexing server, 2 web servers, 1 SQL DB server.

Here is my plan, is there anything missing:

  1. Changing the DNS entry
  2. In SP Central Admin, change all the Alternate Access Mappings
  3. NLB: change each node to reflect the change in host name
  4. IIS server of the web servers, change the site bindings
  5. Change the host file in the servers (web, indexing servers)

Thanks in advance.

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Changing an authentication of SharePoint site from SQL-FBA to Active Directory

Hi,      We are using MOSS 2007. I have customized a web application using Custom web part, features and ASPX pages. we have configured SQL-Form based Authentication for this site. I have also used FBA user management functionality from Codeplex. I have created some groups and my application (custom aspx page) is referencing these groups to send an email to specific person as per his role for certail events.        I have a requirement to migrate this set up on other server and change the authentication from SQL-FBA to Active Directory. So if I have to change the Authentication from SQL-FBA to AD then what are the steps I have to follow to make this happen?      I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks, Patav

host-named site collection, 401 error (SP Foundation 2010)

I'm trying to create a host-named site collection. However, after its creation, I try to access it with the browser and I'm challenged to enter my username/password  (validating through Active Directory, I believe) and I get a blank page. Looking in the IIS log I see a 401 error with sub-status 1. I'm creating everything programmatically through the  API. I'm following this article:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288637.aspx# It's not clear in the article exactly what DNS does or should do with host-named site collections. I added a line to my hosts file:   altlocalhost And I can ping altlocalhost with no problem. When I deploy directly a simple site collection without host-named stuff I'm not challenged to enter user name/password and the site works fine (and I'm authenticated with AD).

Set execute permissions for web site at web host

Hi all,    I have just succeeded doing a Publish to server from my local sql db and run the sql script on my web host's sql server 2005 db. (I'm very proud! :-)   )   Now, I get the dreaded The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'MyStoredproc', database 'db12345', schema 'dbo'. error. I can't set the permissions from within Visual Studio, can I? What should I ask the web host to do? a) Should I ask them to globally set execute permission on ...? b) Should I ask them to set execute permissions to ... for only INSERT/DELETE/UPDATE stored procedures? c) Should I ask them nothing, and handle this myself? If so, then how? And, the question remains, should I set execute permissions globally or on a per stored proc basis? And what's the name of the user who needs the property set correctly? The reason why I ask these questionsis that I used to work with winfomrs at a university. There people should have different permissions depending on what group of users they belonged to. In this instace I have no idea!   Muchos gracias in advance, Pettrer, Sweden

Host-named site collections and content deployment jobs (SharePoint 2007 Internet facing Web Sites)

I have an editing web application with multiple site collections (only accessible internally on a dedicated port), and I've one public facing web application (on port 80). Now I want to create several host-named site collections in the public facing web application (to limit the number of web apps in the farm), and then use content deployment jobs to push the content from the site collections on the editing web app into these host-named site collections.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
Do you see any issues?

Site variations: limited to publising sites?

I have following requirements:

My SharePoint site collection must be multi-lingual (MOSS 2007 installation). So I thought: I fix this by using the site variations feature.

However, to enable this feature, I need to have a publishing site as top-level site. No problem for me. But apparantly, underneath a publishing site, only publishing subsites can be created. That is a problem for me. Because underneath my publishing top-level site I want to create a team site, a site base on one of the 40 fantastic templates and so on.

How can this be achieved?

Can't deploy SharePoint solution even after changing Site Url property

I've developed a SharePoint 2010 solution in VS2010 and i've also deployed it on my site collection - everything works perfect, fine!

But when I try to deploy the same solution in another site collection (on local server not remote) by changing Site Url property of the solution to my new site collection, VS is not deploying the solution. I'm getting the following error:

Error 102 Error occurred in deployment step 'Recycle IIS Application Pool': Cannot connect to the SharePoint site: http://newsiteurl/. Make sure that this is a valid URL and the SharePoint site is running on the local computer. If you moved this project to a new computer or if the URL of the SharePoint site has changed since you created the project, update the Site URL property of the project.

I've packaged the solution and deployed it manually, it's working fine but i don't understand why i'm not able to deploy the solution on a different site collection on the same machine??

Does anyone else has experienced the same issue?

Thanks & Regards,

Changing the master page and Css of SharePoint Site programatically

Hi All,

I am trying to change the Site Collection's Master page and alternative css  programatically. Below is the code I am using:

Change Top Nav "Home" Link without changing site title?

Is it possible to change the top navigation bar "home" link (i.e. the selected top-left navigation item) without changing the site's title?

This is for a site configured with the Global Navigation set to: "Display the navigation items below the current site".

So, for example, if the site is called "Team Site", then the top-left navigation link will be called "Team Site". I would like to change the navigation link text, but keep the site title.

Converting path based site collection to host-named site collection

Changing Feature Pack on an Existing Site

I'm seeing an issue where if I create a Sharepoint site and set it to a given site subscription and then go back to change the Feature Pack associated with the site subscription SharePoint 2010 does not reflect these new features in the UI.

An example:

I create a site with a feature pack that corresponds to the Foundation features.  At a later date I want to re-assign a new Feature Pack to the site subscription that corresponds to the Standard features.

Doing the following to change the associated Feature Pack on the site subscription where $featurePackID is the GUID of the Feature Pack I want to change the subscription to using:

$sub = Get-SPSite -Identity $url

#Set Feature Pack
if ($featurePackID -ne "")

	$FeaturePack = Get-SPSiteSubscriptionFeaturePack $

Do I need to host a separate site for my WF4 service?

I have an ASP.NET MVC3 application. I now want to implement a WF4 service that this app can use for managing some of my business operations. I want to implement the WF as a service rather than building it directly into the ASP.NET app because I may -- in the future -- create an iPhone app that can consume the service.

My question is about hosting it. Currently my app is being hosted at a shared server. I'll be moving it to Azure very soon. I assume I'll have to set up another site for the WF4 service which would mean another hosting fee, correct?

Also, what will I have to do when I port my app to Azure?

Thanks, Sam

Impact of changing backend and Front End Server hostnames and IP addresses on Sharepoint site

We have a migration scheduled for our Datawarehousing application. We use Sharepoint 2007. As a part of the migration activity, the hostname and the IP addresses of the backend sqlserver (on which Sharepoint administration and Configuration databases are hosted)  and the frontend server(Which hosts the Sharepoint Site) will be changed. Is is advisable? What precautions do we need to take in this migration? Could you provide any documentation with respect to changes to be done in case of Server hostname change.

Take a tour of your SharePoint site

What is a SharePoint site for?
A SharePoint site is a Web site that provides a central storage and collaboration space for documents, information, and ideas. A SharePoint site is a tool for collaboration, just like a telephone is a tool for communication, or a meeting is a tool for decision making. A SharePoint site helps groups of people (whether work teams or social groups) share information and work together. For example, a SharePoint site can help you:

Coordinate projects, calendars, and schedules.
Discuss ideas and review documents or proposals.
Share information and keep in touch with other people.
