Placing conditions on meta data

Posted By:      Posted Date: October 14, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Is it possible to place conditions on the metadata for a document library?

ie:  document library.

Company Name
Purchase Order number

I want some fields to be required based on type (ie: if Type is "Spam" then some fields not required)

Can this be done in SPD?

Metadata: Create a Database Schema Repository with Meta Data Services in SQL Server 2000

SQL Server 2000 Meta Data Services is a repository technology that stores and manages metadata for SQL Server. Instead of building database schemas over and over, Meta Data Services allows you to freeze an entire schema for use in other projects. You can also use these schemas for training, testing, or debugging. In this article, the authors will review the various components of Meta Data Services and show how it can be programmed using a Visual Basic client, XML, and XSLT. They will also show you how to manage and manipulate your metadata by generating a simple database schema using a SQL Server repository.

FieldTemplate_Edit to show value when custom meta data is set editable equals false

How to filter managed meta data column using page query string?

I have two managed term sets as follows: Articles:Downloads Projects:Downloads I am trying to use a content query web part to filter a list based on the above manged meta data column. I want to filter out only "Articles:Downloads" Scenario 1: When I edit the web part and directly set the filter option with the managed meta data column to "Articles:Downloads" it works fine. When I export the web part, in the .webpart file, the "FilterValue1" property has a value "Downloads|9096e43b-555d-4879-9acc-b4ada9ea9910". Scenario 2: I want the web part to get the filter information from query string [PageQueryString:pageType]. So I tried using these options: a) pageType=Downloads      This works but returns downloads under 'projects' as well. (i want downloads only under 'articles')  b) pageType=Articles:Downloads     Does not work and shows no records c) pageType = Downloads|9096e43b-555d-4879-9acc-b4ada9ea9910     Does not work. (This value is the same as one found in 'FilterValue1' of the static web part). c) pageType = Articles:Downloads|9096e43b-555d-4879-9acc-b4ada9ea9910     Does not work. d) pageType = 9096e43b-555d-4879-9acc-b4ada9ea9910     Does not work.   What am I missing here? Can some one please help?

Copy Search Meta Data

Not sure if this is possible.  I have a bunch of search meta data configured on my dev server.  Is there a way to copy the search meta data to my stage server?

How to Configure search for meta-data based retrieval of documents into Document Libraries?

I need to crawl update of newly created/updated documents within document libraries. My understanding says i need to create the new content source and associate the crawls.. and newly created and updated documents would be crawled in the next sceduled incremental crawl. But my question is how i can create the dadicated content source for document libraries as the content as there is no such content source type.

Any suggestion or workaround would be greatly appreciated.

SharePoint Search Meta data properties

Hi All,

I have infoptath form published as content type.

i want to use Fulltext sql query object to perform search in form library, so when i  crawl to index the infopath columns as meta data properties, only few columns are mapped however others are not?

All columns contains value.

Any suggestion why is it behaving so  weared?

jr software programmer

can you upload multiple documents (to a doc library) and set content type and meta data at same time

can you do this?  it doesn't seem like the dialogs support this functionality.  As an alternative i tried doing it in a grid type view after the fact but i couldn't get the grid view to show the content type, even worse, the grid view would let me add meta data to content types that didn't even have that column as long as it was in the view!!

meta column, business data picker no search

I have imported the following stuff:
There are more types but I don't think you guy's are interested in that.
What happens in the "Account" picker at a metadata column is the dropdown does not contain items and search does not work.

Missing column data in my dbo, but the URL is showing in the Meta SRC URI column.

I'm having a problem with my Body1 description column showing up.  My record number is 6858, and only 5857 will load up.  I cut the size down to 5,000 and it worked completely.  Do you have any ideas?  Do I need to increase some size settings?

Thank you

Bulk Import Documents and Meta Data to Document Library SP 2007

RE: SharePoint 2007

I have an excel file with rows and rows of META data and one column is a file name. This filename column maps to a physical file I have as well.

There are 1000's of rows with matching files.

Is there a bulk import tool for free or minimal cost?

I understand I may need to build a document library and create the same column names as the META data, but manually adding these will take me years!

Thanks Daren

Sharepoint not re-indexing document meta data. For example it still finds a document which has had

Hi all,

I have a problem with SharePoint search not re-indexing a file after it has been modified.  For example I have a document which used to have the text testing12345 in the document so if I searched using that name I would find the document.  However I have now modified the document and removed testing12345 for the document saved it and since re-indexed the site.  Despite doing this performing a search for testing12345 it still finds my original document even though it no longer has and references.

Binding WPF Controls to an Entity Data Model

In this interview, programming writer, McLean Schofield, demonstrates how to bind WPF controls to an entity data model, using Visual Studio 2010 Beta 1. You can also learn more in the topic: Walkthrough: Binding WPF Controls to an Entity Data Model.

Surrogate vs Natural Primary Keys - Data Modeling Mistake 2 of 10

In case you're new to the series I've compiled a list of ten data modeling mistakes that I see over and over that I'm tackling one by one. I'll be speaking about these topics at the upcoming IASA conference in October, so I'm hoping to generate some discussion to at least confirm I have well founded arguments.

The last post in this series Referential Integrity was probably less controversial than this one. After all, who can argue against enforcing referential integrity? But as obvious as surrogate keys may be to some, there is a good deal of diversity of opinion as evidenced by the fact that people continue to not use them.

Editing the Data in a GridView

In addition to deleting a GridView's underlying data, another common need is to allow end users to edit the data displayed in a GridView. With ASP.NET 1.x's DataGrid control, editing the data is certainly possible, but requires creating three event handlers and writing a dozen or so lines of code. With the GridView and ASP.NET 2.0, it is possible to create an editable GridView without writing a single line of code! All of the necessary functionality is encapsulated within the GridView.

The GridView allows editing on a row-by-row basis. An editable GridView contains an additional column with an Edit button in each row. When the end user clicks on an Edit button that row becomes editable, causing the Edit button to change to Update and Cancel buttons and the other columns to become TextBoxes. The end user can then update one or more column values and click Update to save their changes.

Using ASP.NET 3.5's ListView and DataPager Controls: Displaying Data with the ListView

Prior to ASP.NET 3.5, developers who needed to display a set of records could choose between the GridView, DataList, and Repeater controls. The GridView provides rich data features, but has a very boxy layout; the DataList and Repeater allow for a more flexible layout, but lack the "point and click" data features found in the GridView, DetailsView, and FormView controls. The ListView bridges the gap between layout flexibility and built-in data features.

This article, the first in a series of articles on the ListView and DataPager controls, looks at the ListView's many available templates and illustrates how to display data. Read on to learn more!

Dynamic Data Templates in GridView ASP.NET 3.5

At a high level, Dynamic Data Templates can be seen as a system to very quickly build up a User Interface linked with the relevant data model, immediately enabling you to perform CRUD operations (Create, Read, Update, Delete) on the database using the specified data source. They provide a powerful method for building up these kinds of applications, and I'm going to focus on an overview of what Dynamic Data Templates actually are, and a few ways of customizing them to suit industry needs.
